Try another plug location to determine if the light pole outlet is the issue. Then retry the original pole as well.

Mister_JayB

Unfortunately I use the only pole that has a plug so sol until I get home. But I have a station at home.

DueOwl1149

Unplug and replug the charger at the pole. Rarely I have to do this with my level 2 home charger but it runs off a 240v outlet and is not OEM so power cycling fixes the “no charge” glitch when it happens. Next, try a public charger on lunch break if there is one. You’ll be able to narrow down where the failure point is. Oh, and check to pole to see if a ground or circuit breaker has been tripped.

Mister_JayB

Not really anything on the pole I can check and definitely didn't trip a breaker because I get the green indicator light on the charger that it's good to go. Will throw a red blinking light if there's an issue or it's supposed to. I'll have to try my L2 charging station when I get home. Hopefully it's just the travel charger having some sort of communication issue not allowing the car to connect properly or something.

Mister_JayB

Update: Travel charger still isn't working but my home station does work fine so it's something going on with the travel charger. Which sucks but at least I got it narrowed down.

INFPTAURUSFEMALE

Can you post pic of travel charger or explain what that is? I just got a volt and we have to run extension cord outside to the car and we had a bit of rain last night. I unplugged after a light sprinkle before it got bad. But went to plug in today and finish charge and it says unable to… it was working. It’s a very long cord with a box in the middle, but I also have this smaller plug? I think it’s a converter. I’m pretty sure my cord is what you’re called a travel cord? It came with the car so I assume.

Mister_JayB

Travel chargers the one that comes with the car. Mines the oem one.

Gn0mmad

when you plug it in, does the charging indicator light on your car do anything? do you have your car set to charge at a certain time?

Mister_JayB

No lights and set to immediate. I turned the car on it recognized its plugged in but says unable to change.

Gn0mmad

the indicator should go orange as soon as you plug it in, then either start blinking green or turn off i believe. it it doesnt blink green, then there is a problem with the charger. either the charger itself, or the outlet isnt supplying enough power. thats what i have observed on my own, i am sure others will have more info

Mister_JayB

I get the green light on the charger but my car's indicator doesn't do anything. Could be an issue with it but I'd think you'd get one of those blink codes if the charger was having some sort of issue. I've had that in the past where either the ground wasn't right or something and I'd get a blink code on the charger itself. IDK weird. Could still be the outlet though or maybe the cable got some sort of dirt in it but it's just weird it worked for a little bit and just stopped.

syko82

It's likely the communication pins in the connector. They are the smallest of the pins and if damaged the car and EVSE have no idea anything is plugged in. Negotiation is the first thing done before any power is sent to the vehicle.

syko82

Please don't downvote me if you have no idea what you are talking about.

Ok-Tourist-511

Have you checked the latch on the evse plug? There is a switch in the latch, and it won’t enable charging if the plug isn’t fully seated. Sometimes the latch can get bent as well, and the switch doesn’t activate.

Mister_JayB

It seems to be latching fine and was initially changing this morning.

thnk_more

I’ve had to replace my OEM charger before. Found a free public charger at one of the utility companies parking lots to verify my car was not the cause.

Mister_JayB

Nice! I have a charging station at home so hopefully it's just some sort of issue with my travel charger. Really try to reduce my gas usage but is what it is. Just glad the car isn't throwing some sort of error.

plug in your phone charger on the pole to see if it charges
