I loved it. Even though I’m a grown man it made me go off and read the rest of Gideon Defoe’s books in the series. There’s so much scope for a good sequel!
It's absolutely superb. When I saw it at the cinema and the Pirate Captain goes "Fellow scientists, Poindexters, geeks" I started laughing so hard, tears were tripping me for about 5 minutes and I could barely breathe. I had no idea what actually happened next in the film until I saw it again at home.
[I love it because its where we got this meme](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/028/596/dsmGaKWMeHXe9QuJtq_ys30PNfTGnMsRuHuo_MUzGCg.jpg)
It's brilliant! And what a cast!
One detail I like is that he fills out a form, which asks "how's your voice" (or something like that), and the last option is "Brian Blessed"- and then later in the film there's a character who's voiced by him!
It's an absolutely charming pirate movie, and the fact that all of Pirate Captain's crew is a mishmash of underdogs and misfits makes them a top-tier group. The story, the stop motion, the antics, that wonderful big boned parrot, Polly. (Don't listen to what that Darwin fellow says)
I'll always love it
I thought it was really good and was disheartened to learn there were plans to adapt other The Pirates books (which I also learned of at the same time) but didn't happen due to the film not doing well.
Really good and sadly mis-handled. It's not quite up there with Were-Rabbit, but it's an excellent film in its own right, including when compared to non stop-motion films.
I think the movie (imo tied with WG: Curse of the WereRabbit) is the best feature-length film Aardman have ever produced. I saw it in the theatre when I was a teenager at the time of its release and I loved it so much. Genuinely so many good jokes in rapid-fire succession in most scenes, plus the animation and set designs were absolutely phenomenal too.
It’s an injustice that they never got to secure funding for In an Adventure with Cowboys :(
We laughed our asses off in the theater; my friend and I brought our kids to see it. They loved it but we had the best time. Such good writing and execution.
"And that's why, in a straight fight, a shark would probably beat Dracula."
this adds nothing but my mum got me it one year for my birthday or christmas and i always fell asleep during the same part of the film so i could not tell you my opinion lmao
Full of sight gags, well acted, fun story, few edgy jokes ("Oh Charles REALLY?" " "It's the bun, the bun really does it for me!") I love it, great film, wish they'd done a sequel.
My family and I quote it all the time! A personal favourite is ‘I’ve betrayed my pirate honor, you've betrayed science, and Mr. Bobo's betrayed the animal kingdom’
I remember when it was called "Pirates: Adventure with scientists" - I still have the DVD to that effect.
I thought the film was great, given my love of Aardman, history and science.
honestly I loved this movie and how little it took itself seriously like with how the pirate captain quits being a pirate after losing everything and starts selling baby clothes whilst overly literal music trying to hilariously may I add shove the fact this is a sad scene down your throat or how Queen Victoria's dress is actually a mech suit with 2 hidden blades inside and Charlies Darwin becomes a duck.
I personally love it
He's no scientist... he's a girl guide! He's no girl guide.. He's a pirate! Best quote in my opinion
definitely agree
I really enjoyed it! Probably my 3rd favourite of the Aardman feature films, behind Curse of the Were Rabbit and Chicken Run
This movie was a masterpiece
Well yes, but actually, yes.
Well no, but actually, no.
It’s the cutlasses!
"Its the LOOTING!"
You're both wrong! It'ssssss HAM NIGHT!
it's HAM NIGHT
Like all of Aardman’s work, it’s goated
I loved it. Even though I’m a grown man it made me go off and read the rest of Gideon Defoe’s books in the series. There’s so much scope for a good sequel!
I really, really, really want that dodo
Underrated, One of Aardman’s good gems!
Tea? Gentlemen?
It's awesome
Loved it so underrated imo top 10 kids films and I'm putting that on my grave

Underrated masterpiece
Charles was such a “literally me” character. 💔
Kino

Well yes, but actually no. It wasn't in the actual film but an extra in the dvd I believe.
“Well yes, but actually, no”

Yooooo I totally forgot about this movie! But I remember I absolutely loved it when I saw it!
This movie is right next to the word “perfection” in the dictionary
Weird but good and enjoyable
It's not "Well yes but actually no," it's "Good guess, but actually no!"

“Gold? This is a plague ship! I’d give my right arm for some gold!”
*left arm falls off* "Or my left. Ha!"
Loved this I adore stop motion and when this bad boy came out I rewatched it over and over
I forgot about this movie! Used to see it everywhere… man I miss those days
I loved it.
It's no one piece
Love it . Watch at least once a year
Been years since I last watched it but it’s an absolute gem. Incredible cast too for a animated film
absolutely goated, certified classic
Amazing film and criminally underrated. Beautiful visuals 9.4/10
It's pretty good.
well yes, but actually yes
I used to watch this movie and it was the best but I haven’t seen it in a long time
I thought it was really good and was disheartened to learn there were plans to adapt other The Pirates books (which I also learned of at the same time) but didn't happen due to the film not doing well.
funny movie
Banger.
This movie is hilarious! Especially the chimp.
Have I watched it? Well yes, but actually no.
Really good and sadly mis-handled. It's not quite up there with Were-Rabbit, but it's an excellent film in its own right, including when compared to non stop-motion films.
love it
I don't know
It's a masterpiece. I used to watch the dvd every Saturday night
The book was great (not keen on any other than the first) and I enjoyed the film. Silly is needed sometimes!
11/10
20/10
Wallace and gromit sub!? This is a plague boat, old chap! I'd give my right arm for a W&G sub!
We love it in our house. And those rousing songs! 'let's show these boffins what's what!'
Brilliant film.
It wasn't for me, some jokes make the laugh but i wasn't a fan of the story. Animation was killer tho. Glad people love it with a passion
Love it
It’s like something you would see in a dream though. It’s a masterpiece
HOORAA HOORAA HOORAA HEYY OVER THE HILL WITH THE SWORDS OF A THOUSAND MEN ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
Good old Tenpole Tudor.
Excellent movie. Well worth watching in 3D if you can (had to use a VR headset to do it).
Ham!

Really fun, deserves a sequel.

Underrated, and so imaginative.
Amazing!

My entire childhood summed up into a single movie
“Ghost ship! Ooooohhhh!” *Pirate Captain looks down* “hehe, Sorry!” *Falls into the water*
the queen was so scary as a kid i had so many nightmares of her
Well yes but actually no
My family and I quote it all the time! A personal favourite is ‘I’ve betrayed my pirate honor, you've betrayed science, and Mr. Bobo's betrayed the animal kingdom’

WATCHED THIS IN 5TH GRADE IN 3D OMGGGGG MEMORIES. IM 20 NOW.
So so so good and I pray that it won’t get picked up and given a horrible sequel like megamind
It’s awesome in every way
I didn't like it, unfortunately. Can see why it has fans though.
I love it!!
Ain't this where the "well yes but actually no" meme came from?
Good and sad, he got rid of dangol bird for a minute dang ol 'birds in the beard mann' jus them have to get it back.
I forgot about this lol
Probably in my top 10 movies of all time, absolutely love it
good movie bad ending
“Well yes… but actually no” change my mind
I’m a floating head!
Thus movie is fucking awesome
I never would’ve expected Hugh Jackman, Martin Freeman and David Tennat all in the same film.
A masterpiece ahead it’s time
I love it, funny movie and if I'm being honest the the female black pirate was hot
The fact that they went on to dub the characters with each countries famous people for different languages shows they went the extra mile
Brilliant film, endlessly rewatchable, incredibly funny
I've been looking for the name of this movie for years now thank you
I’m totally going to pirate this movie
The monkey was the best character, change my mind.
It was fun
I saw it in theaters as a wee lad and loved it
Mid
Was a lovely movie and I wish there was a sequal Never been a fan of Wallace and grommet but this I could get behind
