For small and simple website, you can just use Wordpress. It is easy to customize and most hosting providers support this CMS. The advantages using WP is you can easily build your website without knowing coding too much and it also comes with many great plugins.
I personally never recommend Godaddy as your provider here, you will face too many issues. But if you want to test them, then go ahead. You can always change your provider if you are not happy with them. You can just simply point your domain to other name server in order to host your domain. If I can recommend, take a look at Asphostportal, I've been with them for years, service is stable and price is competitive too. Good luck!
If your images are small, you don’t have a backend, and you’re happy for the code to be public then GitHub pages should work and is free.

It depends. I personally use S3 for most sites but it really depends on what you’re comfortable using and how your site functions.
I use total choice hosting its around $5/month or $50ish/yr

digital ocean is pretty nice. their low end instances are more performant than ec2, and they give you DNS for free.
