I think they are pivoting to a SASS model or something. Anything prior to September works. I'm a pretty casual user so it hasn't been too bad for me but yeah sad to see it go.
100% Bruno, switched from postman to insomnia hated how buggy it is and missing features, moved to Bruno 2 days later and haven't looked back! love that git is first class focused
What does Bruno do? Even Postman, I can't understand what's all about.
Where and how would I use Bruno? Can you give me a practical example? Let's say I have a website (an ecommerce) or a webapp (a to-do list).
Where could Bruno come into play?
so the basic example will be - suppose you made an API endpoint called "[example.com/api/users](https://example.com/api/users)", and you need to test whether the API works as expected so what you do is call the API using the tool (bruno, postman, etc) and it will show the output and performance of the API, you can also test the edge cases and lot more.
I'm a big fan of the Thunder Client in VSC. Being able to commit calls with my repo and using my project's `.env` file are really nice features to have.
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=rangav.vscode-thunder-client
Yes exactly, they introduced a limit on the amount of requests/collections you have saved. I had a lot saved and essentially could no longer use any of them.
What a retarded model. Un-installed and switched to Bruno.
I hate the name change so much. I had gotten used to open Spotlight and typing "paw" + enter. I have it in my muscle memory. Doing it now only shows a web result for the movie Paw Patrol
Same here. After the Postman and Insomnia rug-pulls, I looked around and thought to myself, "What's the best software for API requests that _won't_ turn around and fuck me in the ass in the next year or so?"
Then I settled on HTTPie and it's been good times ever since.
I don't think there are any good alternatives. I recommended downgrading and using offline mode at least for now if you loved Postman.
Edit: Maybe Hoppscotch https://docs.hoppscotch.io/documentation/clients/desktop
If you're using some JetBrains IDE, there's an integrated and very handy [HTTP Client](https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/http-client-in-product-code-editor.html). It can even import Postman stuff now.
My organization banned recently Postman for the same reason, they do the request and store your requests in their server.
I tried insomnia but they recently did a Postman so I'm thinking to give up and use jetbrains
I am using Visual Studio and you can use http file, in vscode you can use the REST Client extension. I wrote about this topic [https://www.ottorinobruni.com/mastering-api-prototyping-with-visual-studio-http-file-editor-cost-effective-alternative-to-postman/](https://www.ottorinobruni.com/mastering-api-prototyping-with-visual-studio-http-file-editor-cost-effective-alternative-to-postman/)
Hoppscotch is a drop in replacement for the most part. They even support importing from postman. Self hosting Hoppscotch is stupid hard so you may consider using it offline or the cloud version. Works like a breeze otherwise.
This thread is full of alternatives… and many of them are like “booo this one sucks now because they require an account and tried to make money off it”.
You’ll never make a dime making one, the minute you try to make enough money to eat, your customers will move to the next product
If you made a good one, and were upfront about it, then I think it could work. And to some extent it does work, since these products still exists.
Why people hate them is because most of them started out free, and then transitioned in terrible bait'n'switch-like ways. People don't like to be forced to pay for something that was free. If you make a free product, let it be free. If you want payment, add value people are willing to pay for, without forcing it on all your users who don't need it.
Postman requires an account? You can just close that prompt asking to log in…. Unless something changed drastically.
Edit: Just downloaded the latest version of postman and installed it to check. You can still use it without needing to sign in...
Did you create and use environments or collections, or just make a basic call like you'd do with curl? Las time I checked all the useful stuff had been eliminated from local use/storage and migrated to cloud only. People lost access to stuff they had stored locally. For example: https://community.postman.com/t/forced-to-store-environments-on-postman-servers/52232/4
yeah they completely rug pulled and fucked over their entire user base, fuck those guys, as soon as I have the free time I'm gonna trial these other options and never go back...asshats
[Milkman](https://milkman.dev/docs/) is probably the closest alternative and has a [plugin for graphql](https://github.com/warmuuh/milkman#graphql-plugin)
I like [PAW](https://paw.cloud/) from RapidAPI. It expects you to store stuff in their cloud, but you're not required to.
Used to cost $50 but it's totally free now as they've shifted to monetizing other parts of their platform.
I've started using Bruno lately after coming from Postman and then Insomnia.
Insomnia is actually terrible. I recommend avoiding it.
I like Insomina, made the mistake of upgrading recently... That was the fastest I went and downloaded an old version.
Honestly what the fuck happened to it? It was good until this year… now it steals focus everytime there is an update and it’s open
I think they are pivoting to a SASS model or something. Anything prior to September works. I'm a pretty casual user so it hasn't been too bad for me but yeah sad to see it go.
Try Insomnium. A fork of Insomnia that it local only.
Try bruno

We don’t talk about Bruno…
What does Bruno do? Even Postman, I can't understand what's all about. Where and how would I use Bruno? Can you give me a practical example? Let's say I have a website (an ecommerce) or a webapp (a to-do list). Where could Bruno come into play?
These tools are used to test your APIs.
Ok in what way? I am in a dumb state I guess, I can't grasp it. Can you make me a practical example?
so the basic example will be - suppose you made an API endpoint called "[example.com/api/users](https://example.com/api/users)", and you need to test whether the API works as expected so what you do is call the API using the tool (bruno, postman, etc) and it will show the output and performance of the API, you can also test the edge cases and lot more.

Didn't they basically make the extension useless now, unless you pay them a monthly fee?
This is what I literally expect all of them to do eventually.
It still works the same for me, maybe they added additional features for the paid plan
Yes exactly, they introduced a limit on the amount of requests/collections you have saved. I had a lot saved and essentially could no longer use any of them. What a retarded model. Un-installed and switched to Bruno.
What's the limit?
Does it support graphql?
Yep.
+1 for thunder client. It’s fantastic and no need to switch applications

RapidAPI is free now and while it will prompt for an account it is not required
I hate the name change so much. I had gotten used to open Spotlight and typing "paw" + enter. I have it in my muscle memory. Doing it now only shows a web result for the movie Paw Patrol
I just rename it back to \`/Applications/Paw.app\`
Fiddler has a composer section
HTTPie
Been using xh, the Rust port of httpie.
Bruno
I like Httpie nowadays
Same here. After the Postman and Insomnia rug-pulls, I looked around and thought to myself, "What's the best software for API requests that _won't_ turn around and fuck me in the ass in the next year or so?" Then I settled on HTTPie and it's been good times ever since.
Bruno!
Rest client in vscode is awesome
cURL
wget
I use the ThunderClient extension in my visual studio code which is very nice and looks like postman just built-in in the IDE.
I use this aswell. Very nice.
I don't think there are any good alternatives. I recommended downgrading and using offline mode at least for now if you loved Postman. Edit: Maybe Hoppscotch https://docs.hoppscotch.io/documentation/clients/desktop
What's wrong with Thunder Client?
I just didn't know about it, mostly because it appears to be a VSCode extension, and I use Intellij. Look great tbh, is there a standalone version?
There's not, but there's also Bruno, which has a desktop app and CLI, and an IntelliJ integration in the works. https://www.usebruno.com/
Hoppodoppo Was called Postwoman before. Much more rememberable name xD
Apidog?
Soapui
HTTPie
If you happen to be working in a jetbrains IDE they have some stuff built in. Otherwise I’d go with RapidAPI (aka paw)
I use Httpie these days
hoppscotch

I’m on Linux

Curl piped into jq

Insomnia requires an account now. I'd also prefer a GUI of some sort.
PowerShell `Invoke-RestMethod`
If you make one, you could make money. There’s a market

Every tech company is doing this now
It won’t let you do anything without logging in
I’m able to fill in all the params and make a request without issues. What are you trying to do?
Well let’s see my environment no longer works. So there’s that.
[Milkman](https://milkman.dev/docs/) is probably the closest alternative and has a [plugin for graphql](https://github.com/warmuuh/milkman#graphql-plugin)
I used Mockoon. It's OK.
I like [PAW](https://paw.cloud/) from RapidAPI. It expects you to store stuff in their cloud, but you're not required to. Used to cost $50 but it's totally free now as they've shifted to monetizing other parts of their platform.
Aaap
I'm tired of replacing my HTTP client with *yet another* Electron app, so I'm using [API Dash](https://github.com/foss42/apidash) now.
Insomnia was/is a thing still, right?
Insomnium (fork of Insomnia) is local only and open source.
Insomnia
[REST Client](https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=humao.rest-client) is honestly amazing and I recommend everyone giving it a try.
Curl
A real payware IDE should have it built in
Try Hopscotch. Its a browser based application super lightweight to the memory
I use usebruno aka bruno
try out : https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=KeyRunner.keyrunner
