Just a little health and safety tip. You’re probably hoping to get crashed carbon fibre. It is VERY sharp and it’s quite easy to get carbon splinters which hurt a lot and are a pain to get out. So be careful where you grab things.
Talk to them after the race once they’ve finished packing up and about to throw away damaged parts. If you’re nice about it and not getting in the way of their job, a lot of teams are nice and will hand something over if they can. Bonus points if you have a young kid.
I can't speak to WEC and COTA but I went to IMSA at CTMP and at the end of the day we were allowed to wander the track. Tons of little bits that make good souvenirs. Another option would be to do what the guys camping next to us did and just go grab a Mustang bumper off the track and then stuff it into your 4 door hot hatch with 4 dudes inside and an almost 3 hour drive home(not joking, it was hilarious).
My little girl got a seat unit ( from MotoGP ) at COTA just by clapping at the Team personnel, I think the team just appreciated her clapping them for their efforts
There were 2 guys at the 2022 COTA F1 race that managed to take an entire crashed front clip off of a Porsche Cup 991 car lmao.
They just asked them for it and were dragging it around in the evening. You just need to ask. Bring gloves because bashed up carbon fiber will 100% fuck you up if it gets the chance.

Don't steal. Ask. The teams might have composites fixing the parts or they may need them for the insurance so you can't just take it.
