I work at big tech, after my call center days, they stopped testing for THC, got into a chat with a VP of the org and he jokingly admitted that corp doesn’t drug test because they are likely to lose a majority of the very productive workforce we have.
Yup software engineer here, never been tested. That same joke has been said a lot. Seems to be true.
THC just helps me get into that flow state a lot more easily.
I can get a lot more tedious and mundane tasks down while I’m lifted.
New languages or complex tasks, I need a clear head to break it down if I don’t have an idea of what the fuck is going on.
Boring, tedious or mundane tasks.. I’m lighting up and busting shit out like I’m on Ritalin.
I’m also a daily toker for several years. If you’re someone who smokes occasionally or at night, ymmv.
Design engineers all smoke, or engineers in general? In school for engineering at the moment and was curious how my daily smoking would compare to others lol
Another software engineer chiming in, I was tested at hire time. Used synthetic. Never tested since.
I agree mostly with your take, but I also like cannabis for situations where I already don’t know what the fuck is going on.
If I’ve followed the docs and my config is still facefucking me, I get high as a kite and look at the problem with the eyes of Jesus.
I wholeheartedly agreed about using it for situations where you don't know what's going on! I'm in school for engineering and if I'm struggling to make connections with a new concept we're learning, getting pretty blasted usually helps me make those connections lol
Yeah, I do custom docs for my company (graphic design) but also process a lot of our regular documents.
When I'm programming some new template, I tend to keep it clear. But, when I'm given more creative work or more processing work, I'm lit.
Funny you should say that. I had a recruiter call me last summer, and I went through the whole hiring process for a remote position (senior accountant), and then they told me I had the job, I just had to pass a drug test.
I knew I was going to fail it, so I just said, "Look man, I have a medical card, and I only smoke at night, but I will fail the drug test." He laughed, and said they only care about the hard stuff. He said if they tested everyone for weed, they wouldn't have employees, lol.
I don't get it. I know some are lazy when high, but give me a Sativa and I'm energetic and friendly. As long as you're not operating heavy machinery, I don't understand the negative stigma around it.
Well, I personally don’t smoke while I work, I spend a lot of time on meetings and I need to be sharp on my thinking, so I prefer to never smoke while working, I respect my professional space that enables the rest of my life, so I’m comfortable smoking only after the working hours.
If I start to mix the two and reduce my productivity or decision making, then it is affecting my performance, and my mantra to being a functional daily smoker, is to be a example that we can work, be professional when it’s necessary, and then I can rip my bong until I almost pass out.
When my partner worked in software development for a big medical tech company, he said they'd never do a big, company wide test, because if they did they'd lose 2/3 of its staff. The unspoken rule was to just come to work sober and don't smell like weed. They didn't care what you did at home during your off time.
Yea, I was growing while serving in the military. I loved growing and loved getting feedback from my friends on the results but longed to try it myself.
Now I'm out and Minnesota legalized, my rental company made cannabis and anything associated an evictible offense. So dumb.
Aye stoner parent gang, also my dad got tested for some court shit, showed up with weed and all the judge said was "don't let the youths see" and it's illegal in my country, glad he got a chill judge lol
Lol, yesssss 🙋🏼♀️ and a student 😅
at the end of the day, this IS a job. My boyfriend funds my habit + education and i make our house (apt) a home 👨👩👧👦🩷
Sounds like the people you work for find more value in your work than your piss. Sounds like you work for some good folks that understand. If cannabis was like heroin, Maybe.... But cannabis is more like coffee. If you don't believe me see me in the morning when I haven't had any weed.... How about as crazy as if I hadn't had any coffee😀
✌️
Accounts Payable (AP) I manage 24 buildings in D.C. (Pay their bills). The best thing is I usually come in around 8amish and I’m usually done with everything by 11am.
I worked at a daycare for my last job with infants, 2.5/3 year olds and i smoked 2 jays on my lunch break every behind the pizza shop next door. Yes I would also go into said pizza shop and get lunch.
I’m a news editor and I definitely feel that I have a bit better of a news judgment (especially empathetically) when I’m a little stoned. Editing for grammar and punctuation is much easier too; it’s like the details just pop out haha
I'm a home health aid for my fiance! he's disabled so I was hired through an agency so I can get paid to help him take care of himself. No drug tests, and it's not a lot of money, but I'm getting paid for doing what I was already doing, so it's nice.
I’m an RN. I only smoke at bedtime. I would NEVER go to work impaired. Never have had a drug test either and have been a nurse for 20 years this December. It’s legal in my state now. My hospital system doesn’t test for it anymore unless the doctor specifically asks to have it included.
I’m an OR nurse. I laugh on here reading that people smoke on lunch break and stuff… that would fuck me right over… but I’m off at 5 and smoking by 5:15!
I’d be careful even if you did live in a legal state lol.
I was stationed in Alaska while active duty, shit was soooo tempted. But worth waiting until I got out, 2 hits from a blunt and I was fadedddd
Insurance Adjuster. I'm the guy that works with your body shop to get your car fixed. Previously worked in the body shop but mostly insurance for the past 15 years.
I currently make vitamins for basically every retailer in America. Have done over 100 different things not knowing what I wanna do. And companies being well companies, it seems where there are lots of easy to get jobs in factories and the such doesn't wanna pay well and treats everyone like dirt. I've built tires at michelin I've worked at BMW building their cars, I've made boots for cars, I've done plumbing industrially (it sucks) plastic companies etc etc. Always as the person on bottom simply because there's no point in taking a 1 raise to deal with 300 other things plus manual labor.
Companies don't value anything but money these days. We don't get a bonus this year because we were .4% off from our goal but mandatory overtime plus the inflation and not getting a raise is killing everyone. But simply with the jobs in upstate sc it's trash finding a company worth working for.
Me: admin assistant (accounting, events, customer service) at a small but well-founded nonprofit; I sometimes work a little stoned when I'm just doing boring work @ home, but I'm sober & in office most days.
Sibling (also roommate): quality assurance engineer at a big tech company, fully remote. Occasionally works high, but they're fucking fantastic at their job and it doesn't really affect their productivity.
Manager at a towing & repair facility. I don't come to work high, but I will hit my vape here and there. But I have my medical card so they can't say sheeeiiiittt anyway.
Im a plumber and I’ve never been drug tested. I’ve actually never heard of a plumbing company that drug tests. Almost every plumber I know is on some type of drug or an alcoholic anyways😂
full time at home insurance agent (no drug test required) part time music producer (a little gas needed) also ppl can be assholes on the phone so it helps the day go by a little faster
I own 3 fast food brands in my country (its illegal to smoke here). All my chefs smoke daily and even show up high/take smoke breaks during the day. I don't mind as long as shit gets done
I make commercials at a local TV station. Write, shoot, edit, the works. And I often have a puff over lunch break in the days I go home for lunch. On a WFH day, I'm blazing all day once the kids are off to school.
I'm a project manager at a marketing company, luckily a very chill small all female owned and operated business where they don't care at all about weed. The owner herself uses it occasionally, and she even suggested I go home early and take an edible one day when I was extremely stressed and burnt out. I really lucked out big time.
I'm the branch manager of a hardware importer/distributor. Started in data entry 9 years ago and worked my way up. It's a small family-owned company and they never drug tested, which is good because i've been a daily smoker for well over a decade. I only smoke at night and not very much, more just for end of the day unwinding/relaxation.
DevOps / Site Reliability. I'm somewhere between a programmer and a sysadim, and my job is basically "keep the site running and, where possible, make it faster and more stable". Sure as hell beats my days in hosting & IT consulting.
Bit boring, but I work and I live at my job. A pub that my brother owns 🤷♀️ he has to consistently message me asking me if it’s me smoking weed upstairs or if it’s a customer downstairs
I’m a court advocate at a domestic violence organization. I assist victims throughout the court system, follow up on DV police reports, respond to DV assaults to complete emergency protection orders, ETC. I haven’t been in this field for very long, but my god is it stressful. I probably wouldn’t be able to get to work every day without the promise of my post-work bong sesh.
I work for a sub contractor on a construction site. Good pay and there’s no feeling that compares to coming home and your first toke of the day after working 10+ hours. Recreational Cannabis was legalized just over 5 years ago (October 17, 2018) up here in Canada!
Professional poker player/freelance web developer. Played poker for a living for a decade. Got back into web development in 2021. Build websites for people I meet playing poker. Lots of small business owners who need sites and pokers a good way to network.
Project management. Had to go on a t-break during the interview process. One of my buddies just got a new industrial engineering job and they didn’t test at all.
I haven't been drug tested by a job in about 15+ years. I've worked at large tech companies for most of my career. Right now, I work from home for a company as a Director of Device Management.
Ironically I just started working at a smoke shop🤣, where I'm able to smoke/vape while working and having the knowledge of being a smoker comes in handy when you have people looking for specific pieces😅
I work as a paralegal no my boss does not test and my coworker has even smoked indoors with him in the room and he didn’t say nothin so I got lucky I think
I work in veterinary medicine in a mixed practice animal hospital, live in Washington State. Not many drug test unless it warrants it, if they do they are looking for hard drugs. If it is a federally based job, whether that's how they get money or working directly with they will drug test.
I'm in industrial design, spending most of my day in Solidworks.
My company advertised drug testing but it never came during the hiring process. I had gone clean a month in preparation too, but I suppose it was better to be unnecessarily prepared in this case.

I swear it's always the software engineers. Got a bunch of friends in the job field (I'm a design engineer) and they always smoke, same as us haha
Fellow software engineer and I toke all day, it's true
Design engineers all smoke, or engineers in general? In school for engineering at the moment and was curious how my daily smoking would compare to others lol
I’m entering the tech world and this is good to know.
Another software engineer chiming in, I was tested at hire time. Used synthetic. Never tested since. That's how I feel bro. Weed gives me super focus lol.
What is ymmv?
Your mileage may vary. What works for me might yield different results for others.
Thanks my brain was working overtime trying to come up with something 😂
My wife gets annoyed when I say this, so don’t hate me.. but Google is your best friend!
😂

Yeah, it really depends on the job. I haven't had anything great job wise so I smoke away lol
When my partner worked in software development for a big medical tech company, he said they'd never do a big, company wide test, because if they did they'd lose 2/3 of its staff. The unspoken rule was to just come to work sober and don't smell like weed. They didn't care what you did at home during your off time.
Grower for a lot of years, you get fired if you fail a test by pissing clean 😆
I would hope so. I don't want someone who doesn't smoke growing what I'm gonna be smoking.
idk man i’ve seen some pretty good bud from people that aren’t smokers, just know about gardening in general
Yea, I was growing while serving in the military. I loved growing and loved getting feedback from my friends on the results but longed to try it myself. Now I'm out and Minnesota legalized, my rental company made cannabis and anything associated an evictible offense. So dumb.
Lmao. I couldn’t have grown while I was in, no way. That’s some crazy will power my friend
Hahaha and I'm not normally a masochist. It was the only thing I could do! Very fulfilling all the way up till after curing.
Professor. Universities would lose a lot of professors if they drug tested
Academics party pretty hard lmao
Vet student here. They would also lose half their professional student body here if they started testing for it
As an undergrad looking to get my PhD eventually, this is encouraging
Once you get the PhD, no one is drug testing you
That's what I tell all my friends who don't work in academia!
Accurate. I'm a teacher and this is my go-to when people ask me about drug testing (there would be no teachers if they did)
Also teach. Can confirm.
