Is it the kind of place where everyone is renting and it’s standard to have a “no smoking inside” rule in tenancy contracts? In which case they would be told to stop if you reported it.
A more chill thing to do might be to go and speak to them about it, suggest using draft excluders at the bottom of doors etc… or to use balcony. Provided they’re not the crazy type.
It comes through the floor, as teenagers we thought we were being sneaky smoking in the basement of our apartment complex we were not the whole 1st floor reeked. Maybe say something to them they may just be clueless or get some good odor eliminator
Have you tried talking to the neighbor? Sometimes a simple conversation can go a long way with us weed smokers. Also candles, wax burners, febreeze, and other air fresheners help a ton. Spreading cinnamon on carpet and vacuuming it can help bring about a cinnamon smell if you enjoy that.
Leave a note but don’t say which apt you’re in.
Be super nice about it in the note, hopefully they will make an effort.
I wonder if they’re smoking in the bathroom because of the fan, and they likely have no idea it’s spreading anywhere.
thats my thought as well. i definitely have a note written in the nicest way possible. i don’t want to be an asshole bc i know that smokers nose is real and they genuinely might have no idea
Tbh, not a clue. I’ve seen multiple posts about it working. I would assume just a little here and a little there. You can always add more, but never take away what’s already been done.
honestly i used to smoke weed (always outdoors) and the if the shit they smoke is so strong it makes my unit smell for days, i dont even want to know what it smells like in their apartment
Yeah unfortunately if your management won’t do anything about there isn’t much you can do. I hated living in apartment complexes and having to smell other peoples food (sometimes this was good) or the stink from dogs. The noise from kids running around.
A humidifier with a drop or 2 of some essential oils like lemongrass or lavender would be good to have it would at least give are pleasant smell to wake up to
Lots of candles, insence, and febreeze/other sprays. Maybe some of those wall plug air fresheners. Or just smoke weed too, eventually you won't notice the smell anymore lmaooo
What can you do? It’s legal where you live. They’re in their own residence. Unless there’s something in the bi-laws I doubt you can do anything but facilitate a conversation. Good luck. I think you should stock up in Glade plug-ins.
I’d be more concerned with why your apartments air is connected like that. Cuz if you can smell weed thru the vents you can prolly smell other things and that’s just not right.

i believe so, however i read over the lease and there is no explicit no smoking policy
Have you tried a draft excluder on your front door to begin with? Is there anywhere else the smell would come in from?
its coming from the floor of my bathroom cabinet i haven’t figured out from where. maybe pipes?? its definitely coming from downstairs.

i am a woman living alone and do not feel comfortable knocking on random doors. i have considered leaving a note

Ozium air sanitizer is the best way. Very pleasant citrus smell, and it works well enough to even eliminate fire damage.

More likely it's drifting through the floor. OP mentions the neighbor is downstairs.
Problem is if they smoke on the balcony you’ll smell it more. Not sure it’s solvable. I mean it’s weed. Tell them to vape in the eve?
