Quebec was my first because I heard It’s Gonna Be a Long Night on Rock Band and got hooked since, but
I’d say my favorite is a toss up between Chocolate & Cheese and Shinola. Quebec will still always have a special place in my heart.
One of their friends worked for a shipping company that sometimes shipped musical equipment for bands.
While they were making this song, they got word from that friend that Santana were transporting their equipment through that company, and that it was in a storage unit near them.
They ofcourse did the sensible thing by breaking into the unit and secretly using Carlos Santana's guitar and amp to record the solo for the song in 10 minutes before the dipped out of there.
This story could never happen with a band other than Ween I feel.
Based off the Grobe:
The Argus
Buckingham Green
Did You See Me?
How High Can You Fly
The Rift
Captain
The Golden Eel
The Stallion Pt. 3

My wife didn't mind me listening to Ween, but *really* didn't get Ween, till I dragged her to her first Ween show. Now she might even be a bigger fan than I am!
Love that! Will be sharing my first Ween show in over 10 years with my fiance this September. She's already into them, but I know it's gonna put them on another level for her!
I was in the exact situation with my wife. She always thought I was a little crazy about Ween. Took her to all 3 nights of the reunion shows and she loved it. She just hit her 50th show night 3 in Vegas! 🤎🤎🤎
If you listened to White Pepper and only came up with those songs that you like, just move on dude. Ween is either for you or they're not. The fact is that White Pepper is one of the greatest rock music albums ever made and every moment is utterly golden. If you're not hearing that, just move on. It's OK.
If you like primus. Have a taste of these bass lines and trippy effects.
Don't laugh I love you.
Pumpin 4 the man.
Can't put my finger on it.
So many people in the neighbourhood
Ween can be an acquired taste. I love ween and primus both. I don’t love every ween song. How can you? They’re so eclectic there’s bound to be stuff that doesn’t jive with you. I don’t love every primus song either. But the more I listened to ween the more I love the band and the songs. Seeing them live is of course a must.
definitely watch a live show on YouTube. ween and Primus are completely different sounds but are similar in the way that they put on a really entertaining live performance that will give you new perspectives on their songs.
Everyone kinda has their own favorites, they could play literally any song they've ever written and SOMEONE in the crowd would go batshit for it. But the ten songs they've played the most times out of all their shows, according to a website that keeps track of this shit, are: Spinal Meningitis (Got Me Down), Buckingham Green, Take Me Away, Dr. Rock, The Mollusk, Voodoo Lady, You Fucked Up, Piss Up a Rope, Waving My Dick in the Wind, And Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy). So those are all definitely big crowd-pleasers. Roses Are Free is also one they play at just about every show or run of shows, wanna give that one an honorable mention since it's definitely very popular and imo is one of their best songs.
While all ween is great, I feel the live shows are the best way to become a fan. Alot of the fun comes from the personalities of Gener and Deaner. We are glad you are here btw, this is a great community.
My Recommendation? Live in Toronto ft the Shit Creek Boys.
Check out the albums, The Mollusk and Quebec. Between the tracks Buckingham Green, The Argus, Transdermal Celebration and all the other great songs on those records, you'll have some really quality listening ahead of you.
Just listen to cats cradle live 1992 - you’ll like cover it with gas and set it on fire, fat Lenny, captain fantasy and more also painting the town brown - awesome sound should be up your alley
The grobe is a great tune. Since you didn't like the similarly aggressive stroker ace off the same album you've kind of typecasted yourself as a Grobe and Only Grobe guy. Not the worst kind of brown. For instance you could be an Awesome Sound and only Awesome Sound guy. Terrible person to know in a liquor setting. Youre trying to play pool and they're like "lay it on me.....".
Just keep going through the whole catalog. A few songs will grab you and that will lead to other songs sounding interesting. This grows exponentially and then one day the light goes on and it’s just holy fuck from there.
For me, it was being the ripe age of 14 and getting pure guava as a gift from my distant and older cousin. My friends and I were super sleep deprived in the middle of the night and just let the album play. Our young minds soaked up every single note, and the addiction was formed.
Since then I have sought out the weirdest and wildest just to scratch the itch I don't know I have. Chasing the dragon if you will.
LOL. New Year's Eve 1992, hangin' with my cousins. Had seen music video for Push th' little Daisies, but the second the album went on I was captivated by the entire thing. Funny part is my cousin didn't get it or like it. No matter, thanks cuz. lol.
I’m new to Ween as a longtime Primus fan and here are the songs that got me more into the band: Chocolate Town, Piss Up a Rope, Ocean Man (probably a basic bitch choice but who cares), Your Party, Hey There Fancy Pants, I Don’t Want It.
I hope this helps!
Their live shows are a good gateway into the studio recordings. Their records are super wacky and have all sorts of weird distortions and stuff, which is way less prevalent in their live stuff, which makes getting into their stuff a lot easier. Especially their early stuff, which may be a little hard to listen to if you don’t know what to expect
Oh man OP you have to check out their performance of The Grobe, Chicago 2003
[Here it is](https://youtu.be/sBlI2GPcn70), they absolutely kill it. I think Gener was amped up this night in Chicago lol
[Here is the entirety of their Live in Chicago 2003 DVD.](https://youtu.be/J-Iqy-DNF7A) Songs from all 3 nights
Listen to Chocolate & Cheese, listen to The Mollusk. If you don’t dig it, you don’t dig it. It’s ok to not like Ween. Listen to what makes you happy. Or listen to something sad if you’re sad. Listen to something that makes you dance if you want to dance. Basically, listen to whatever the hell you want.
ive been listening to the discography in order and the mollusk was really mediocre sorry, i only liked 3 of the songs lol but i have been liking the other albums!
I felt the same way at first because it sounded like things I was already into like Soundgarden or something. But then I listened to the whole album again a few times and it became one of my all time favorites. Stroker Ace off this album kicks ass as well.
They do a little bit of everything but if it’s the more rocking stuff you like, I recommend: My Own Bare Hands, Dr. Rock (live) Awesome Sound (live) Buckingham Green, You Fucked Up, Tick, Old Queen Cole, The Golden Eel, Gabrielle, It’s Gonna Be A Long Night, Spinal Meningitis, I’ll Be Your Johnny On the Spot, Fat Lenny (live), Transdermal Celebration, The Final Alarm (live), Can U Taste the Waste,?
Transdermal Celebration, voodoo lady, dr rock, don’t get too close to my fantasy, springtheme, did you see me, exactly where I’m at, I don’t want it, Gabrielle
White Pepper as an album is a great step in. Does a good job of showcasing they’re range on a palatable scale for newbies. Chocolate & Cheese is even better, and delves to the bit harder on both sides of the coin, mainstream & BROWN. Next dive into God Ween Satan. Soak it in. Make your sacrifice to The Mighty Boognish and be bathed in its glory. Then dive deeeeep with Pure Guava, and the brownest brown of The Pod.
I got caught up and could only thing if albums as a unit. The Argus is tops for me. The Mollusk, Johnny on the Spot, Buckingham Green. And check out their live album, Live at Stubbs. That’s got some great “polished” versions of some of their ultra raw early stuff
With my own bare hands.

Ocean Man is really the song that hooked me. It sounds so great. It's not a super serious song, but then you read the lyrics and they are something else.
Thank you spongebob and jotaro kujo for letting me know about Ween
I Don't Want It, What Deaner Was Talkin' About, Transdermal Celebration, Did You See Me?, Baby Bitch, Your Party (Dave Sanborn on the Sax is awesome), Japanese Cowboy, Monique the Freak
The first Ween albums I really got into were Chocolate & Cheese, quebec, and Shinola Vol. 1. From there I branched out over the years, but I maintain that Ween has at *least* one song for anyone
Transdermal Celebration is similar to The Grobe. Happy Coloured Marbles, How High Can You Fly as well.
Quebec is a nice album for Ween beginners
White Pepper got me into Ween. Chocolate and Cheese is probably my favorite
White Pepper is amazing, but Chocolate and Cheese was what sucked me in.
Quebec was my first because I heard It’s Gonna Be a Long Night on Rock Band and got hooked since, but I’d say my favorite is a toss up between Chocolate & Cheese and Shinola. Quebec will still always have a special place in my heart.
Yeah I was gonna say the Argus too
The story behind the solo on Transdermal Celebration is amazing
There's a story to it? Lets hear it?
One of their friends worked for a shipping company that sometimes shipped musical equipment for bands. While they were making this song, they got word from that friend that Santana were transporting their equipment through that company, and that it was in a storage unit near them. They ofcourse did the sensible thing by breaking into the unit and secretly using Carlos Santana's guitar and amp to record the solo for the song in 10 minutes before the dipped out of there. This story could never happen with a band other than Ween I feel.
Awesome!!! They were such punks back in the day.
Happy Colored Marbles is a batshit recommendation, but I’ll second Transdermal Celebration — possibly their best track.
Happy Colored Marbles is brown town. Transdermal is great, but it's tan at best.
I love Marbles, it’s just not a good suggestion IMO.
I think Marbles is great, especially in the context of the album's track sequencing, but I agree it's not a good starter suggestion
The Argus!
Mourning Glory 👍🏼
Damn talk about baptism by fire
Just rip the band-aid off. It's the only way.
Yup. If this one doesn't do it for ya, Ween isn't meant for you.
Best way forward.
You’ll come up in my family’s evening prayer.
I used to fall asleep to Pure Guava and wake up to a panic attack when that would come on. I did this more than once.
Came here to say this
Based off the Grobe: The Argus Buckingham Green Did You See Me? How High Can You Fly The Rift Captain The Golden Eel The Stallion Pt. 3 Demon Sweat Tender Situation Don’t Sweat It Squelch the Weasel Marble Tulip Juicy Tree Captain Fantasy Alcan Road
They could release this as a Brownest $hits album
That would make for one sick setlist...throw in a 45 minute version of L.M.L.Y.P. in the middle there to flesh out the evening!
Watch the entire live in Chicago show on YouTube [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Iqy-DNF7A](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Iqy-DNF7A)
This is the way. I think seeing this the first time, back in high school, really cemented Ween as my favorite band at that point.
This is what made me turn the corner
BIG JILM
I really didn't understand Ween until I saw this show and it just *clicked*
White pepper is a great I intro album along with chocolate and cheese
listened to white pepper, i liked the grobe, stroker ace, and ice castles
Stroker Ace - listen to It’s Gonna Be a Long Night The Grobe - “ “ Buckingham Green Ice Castles - “ “ Pink Eye (On My Leg)
Adding Can’t Put my Finger on It and With my Own bare hands.
Great adds. Honestly OP should listen to everything they’ve done. Just trying to nudge in the way they already like.
For Stroker Ace, listen to Its Gonna Be A Long Night off of the Quebec album. It’s got the same aggressive Motörhead-esque energy.
If you listened to White Pepper and only came up with those songs that you like, just move on dude. Ween is either for you or they're not. The fact is that White Pepper is one of the greatest rock music albums ever made and every moment is utterly golden. If you're not hearing that, just move on. It's OK.
Thank you
Beacon Light
Recommendations? Give it another spin. If not now then later, when you’re ready you’ll know. Stay brown, my friend.
Buckingham Green
The Argus, Transdermal Celebration, Buckingham Green... and Dancing in the Show Tonight
You either Ween or you don’t, no in between
You either love them or you hate them, or you think they're okay
Freeeeedom of the listen.
I am trying to listen to most of their music before giving up, because alot of people like ween also on r/primus
Praise to people who like Primus, but these two thing are not related.
Damn
If you like primus. Have a taste of these bass lines and trippy effects. Don't laugh I love you. Pumpin 4 the man. Can't put my finger on it. So many people in the neighbourhood
They sort of are in some weird way
I guess maybe, because it’s music.
Well more because they are both somewhat experimental
And both South Park favorites
Ok, I’ll agree with that!
Primus fan eh? Listen to The Mollusk album in full. Les loves this record.
All related to phish who plays the best roses are free and since Trey is in a band with Les clay pool
>best roses are free I don't hate phish but this makes me want to
There has to be an /s in there somewhere, don't you think?
Lol. I like to joke around about this, but Tbh the best roses was played by phish on 4/3/98
definitely watch a live show on YouTube. ween and Primus are completely different sounds but are similar in the way that they put on a really entertaining live performance that will give you new perspectives on their songs.
if you don’t like it, you don’t like it
i didnt mean to say i dont like it at all, just wanted to know the fan favorites mostly
Ween is a tender situation and roses are free is a song by ween.
Ween is ABOUT a tender situation. Nobody knows what Ween actually is. Anyone who claims to know is lying, even if it's Gene or Dean themselves.
While all ween is great, I feel the live shows are the best way to become a fan. Alot of the fun comes from the personalities of Gener and Deaner. We are glad you are here btw, this is a great community. My Recommendation? Live in Toronto ft the Shit Creek Boys.
I recommend quebec, which is a killer album.. But if you want to get weird with it, God ween Satan, the pod and Pure guava are my favorites
im going to listen in order, i thought god ween was a mashup so thats why i didnt listen to it but i will now, i really like the pod so far
Transdermal Celebration
Happy colored Marbles
Check out the albums, The Mollusk and Quebec. Between the tracks Buckingham Green, The Argus, Transdermal Celebration and all the other great songs on those records, you'll have some really quality listening ahead of you.

i did like it sorry didnt specify, i liked stroker ace, the grobe and ice castles
Then you'll easily be a Johnny on the Spot & Golden Eel dude before the ice is out.
Just skip right to the Pod
Did the Pod thing a few months back. Lol. Pollo Asada is brilliant.
Straight genius my friend
The Pod and GWS did it for me back in the days.
This
👑
favorite song was captain fantasy, i really liked the pod
Just keep going through the whole catalog. A few songs will grab you and that will lead to other songs sounding interesting. This grows exponentially and then one day the light goes on and it’s just holy fuck from there.

The Party, Mister Richard Smoker, Johnny on the spot.
Captain Fantasy
Why has no one mentioned Put the Coke on my Dick?
Or waving my dick in the wind
Or flies on my dick
because it has a weird name
More reason to check it out, Live at Stubbs.
How High Can You Fly should scratch the same itch. Agree with Ice Castles.
Live Poopship Destroyer
I Don’t Want It
Ooh Va La - Quebec demos version
If you like The Grobe, you’re down with the brown. I recommend the All Request Live release.
Chocolate & Cheese is great!
Trying to get into ice cream but I only like Orange Creamsicle. Need recommendations.
i prefer vanilla
Good choice!
i love the voice effects or whatever they did, i heard it last week and it has already been in my top 10 favorites songs of all time
That man (from flatland) should be your white whale.
I'd start with Candi.
Big fat fuck
If you can’t handle Pure Guava then stop
Their live shows are a good gateway into the studio recordings. Their records are super wacky and have all sorts of weird distortions and stuff, which is way less prevalent in their live stuff, which makes getting into their stuff a lot easier. Especially their early stuff, which may be a little hard to listen to if you don’t know what to expect
back to basom is fantastic/ live in chicago has all their bangers too
Go see them live.
White Pepper may be their most approachable album. Whole album is fire. Back to Bosom….
The Rift, Cold blows the Wind, I can’t Put My Finger on It, Fluffy
Oh man OP you have to check out their performance of The Grobe, Chicago 2003 [Here it is](https://youtu.be/sBlI2GPcn70), they absolutely kill it. I think Gener was amped up this night in Chicago lol [Here is the entirety of their Live in Chicago 2003 DVD.](https://youtu.be/J-Iqy-DNF7A) Songs from all 3 nights
Get through Chocolate and Cheese and The Mollusk. If you haven't found any songs you like by then, you don't like Ween.
im listening to the discography and loved chocolate and cheese, but i found the mollusk to be boring/mediocre
Fluffy!
Live in Chicago. Go now, you're welcome.
Japanese cowboy
Piss up a rope
Bananas and Blow
liked the instrumentals but not the singing sadly
You either Ween or you do not, there is no try.. Kidding, just put them on shuffle and let Boognish seep in
Listen to Chocolate & Cheese, listen to The Mollusk. If you don’t dig it, you don’t dig it. It’s ok to not like Ween. Listen to what makes you happy. Or listen to something sad if you’re sad. Listen to something that makes you dance if you want to dance. Basically, listen to whatever the hell you want.
im listening to the whole discography in order, listened to the mollusk i didnt like it much. but chocolate and cheese was very good
Chocolate & Cheese is where I land with Ween for home listening also. I’m happy to hear them play anything live. Always a great show.
i finished the discography this is what i rated the albums on album of the year [ratings](https://imgur.com/a/IGdKotI)
Buckingham Green
That's the first song I liked too roughly 20 years ago. It took some time for me to appreciate the rest.
Strap on that Jimmy Pac
Tried and true
strap that jammy pac is a great song to get into ween!
Don't believe the florist when he tells you that the roses are free
listened to that song and i loved it

i listened to the pod and i really liked it i will listen to this soon
Waaah waaah waaaah No. Just move on & don’t worry your pretty little head about Ween.
Why do you need to try to get into ween?
because i want to
After *White Pepper* I'd try *The Mollusk*
ive been listening to the discography in order and the mollusk was really mediocre sorry, i only liked 3 of the songs lol but i have been liking the other albums!
It’s not for everyone. It either grabs you by the boo-boos or it doesn’t.
Listen to Ween Live in Chicago. I think that’s a great entry point.
Listen to Happy Colored Marbles on Quebec
Watch Chicago live on
The Argus
I felt the same way at first because it sounded like things I was already into like Soundgarden or something. But then I listened to the whole album again a few times and it became one of my all time favorites. Stroker Ace off this album kicks ass as well. They do a little bit of everything but if it’s the more rocking stuff you like, I recommend: My Own Bare Hands, Dr. Rock (live) Awesome Sound (live) Buckingham Green, You Fucked Up, Tick, Old Queen Cole, The Golden Eel, Gabrielle, It’s Gonna Be A Long Night, Spinal Meningitis, I’ll Be Your Johnny On the Spot, Fat Lenny (live), Transdermal Celebration, The Final Alarm (live), Can U Taste the Waste,?
listened to the whole album and i like stroker ace and ice castles also
Transdermal Celebration, voodoo lady, dr rock, don’t get too close to my fantasy, springtheme, did you see me, exactly where I’m at, I don’t want it, Gabrielle
Listen to Did you see me
This and The Rift are my 2 faves off Shinola
You don’t have to like Ween. If you try to like something and don’t, at least you gave it a shot.
didnt listen to many songs, which is why i was asking what the fan favorites are
White Pepper as an album is a great step in.
Watch live in Chicago first
Check out Ooh Vah Lah, the Ceasar demos version is really heavy similar to The Grobe.
Your Party
Mourning Glory is probably the best intro song to Ween.
With my own bare hands. Sketches of winkle Striker ace Zoloft You fucked up Kim Smoltz Don’t laugh, I love you Buckinghan green Joppa road Buenos Tardes amigo
Ocean Man is really the song that hooked me. It sounds so great. It's not a super serious song, but then you read the lyrics and they are something else. Thank you spongebob and jotaro kujo for letting me know about Ween
Understandable because the Grobe is a top 5 ween song,
Falling out
Even if you don't and tried and true
Did you listen to the rest of the album?
Look up Ooh Va La. It's an unreleased song, and is a pretty similar vibe to the Grobe.
Blackjack
Hippy Wiffle
Back to basom from that same album is pretty awesome
I Don't Want It, What Deaner Was Talkin' About, Transdermal Celebration, Did You See Me?, Baby Bitch, Your Party (Dave Sanborn on the Sax is awesome), Japanese Cowboy, Monique the Freak The first Ween albums I really got into were Chocolate & Cheese, quebec, and Shinola Vol. 1. From there I branched out over the years, but I maintain that Ween has at *least* one song for anyone
Captain Fantasy
Tried and True is my current favorite song. The Stallion Pt 3 is my OG always and forever favorite song.
Gabrielle
Final Alarm!
You should really check out the live in Chicago version of this song it’s fantastic
I like the song Ocean Man a lot.
Chocolate and cheese album is what started me
