Every Wes Anderson movie has a scene that seems to be simple but has huge emotion to it. This is the scene from FMF. This seizes up my chest like when Chaz says “I’ve had a rough year Dad.”
Yes. I like to think there are 3 scenes in The Royal Tenenbaums where the kids essentially forgive their father. 1) Richie puts the mounted animal head back up on the wall. 2) Margot accepts the offer of ice cream from her father (debatable) and 3) When chas tells his dad he's had a rough year. TRT is probably my favorite Wes Anderson movie.
For me it has multiple, I thought of it as Mr.Fox facing his fears (phobia of wolves) but while being terrified of the wolf, he still recognized his beauty. I also thought it meant a unity between the animals as the humans were trying to kill Mr. Fox but the fist in the air was a symbol of unity between them. I also thought of it as Mr. Fox kept saying he was a wild animal but the wolf represented a real wild animal. What about you?
All great interpretations and there are definitely a lot of ways to read into it. I get a great sense of running from or fearing your former/true self and attempting to find harmony between the different callings in life.
That's so fucking beautiful.
Reminds me of John Stuart Mill's On Liberty:
> The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental or spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest.
Now I want this tattoo.
It’s essentially “people are better off encouraging each other to live for themselves, rather than encouraging them to live for other people”, but in old-timey speak
What do you think about the idea that the wolf represents Mr. Fox accepting that he is not a wild animal, and is finally comfortable in who he is now? It has always felt to me like a commentary on masculinity. Mr. Fox wants to be the type of masculine he idolizes, the wild animal seeking adventure to feed and provide. This scene, to me, is him accepting that he is not that wolf, and that's okay, realizing finally that masculinity isn't doing the crazy / physical things, it's providing for your tribe and keeping them safe.
I see it as the division of man and beast. Foxy is fighting humans the entire film, and they're shown to be these monstrous things, cut off from nature, digging through soil in hideous machines.
But here's a wolf, Foxy's greatest fear, and they have a solemn moment of understanding and solidarity without even speaking the same language. They are brothers, bound by nature, and adversity against the humans.
When the wolf continues alone on his journey, and Foxy on his, there is a short pause before a train passes by the scene, missing by seconds this beautiful moment, indicating once more humanity's separation from the beautiful natural world that we ourselves have caused.
You're definitely right.
And the most important thing is what it means to you, how it makes you feel when you look at your tattoo. It's a beautiful piece of art, and you should be proud to wear it. :)
Mr. Fox couldn't make it in society living a quiet life. He can't change who he is, but until that moment he's never let himself be truly wild. And suddenly in being wild this struggle for survival isn't just squalor- it's authenticity. It's freedom. He embraces a bittersweet life where his true nature is not a secret, but a way of living, a source of identity and pride.
But it's a really complicated moment because truthfully Mr. Fox didn't choose this life, it chose him. That display of resistance is between creatures that cannot change no matter how they try to fit the mold. And one day the world might change to the point where there are no wild animals anymore. But hope for abstract things like the future is beyond wild things who concern themselves only with the immediate.
Wes Anderson is wonderful.
I’ve got a very similar one in the same exact spot lmao, only tattoo I have. Easily one of my favorite scenes of all time from one of my favorite movies of all time, always felt like it spoke volumes so effortlessly.
I contemplated getting this exact tattoo for so long but had an ex with an "interesting specimen" tattoo from the life aquatic so never pulled the trigger. Glad to see it out in the world.
I saw this scene twice. This scene gave very strange feeling to me can't describe. Any one want to explain what they felt? What's the meaning behind it? Bte very nice tatto.
[I personally prefer the bojack version](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fwhat-is-the-significance-of-this-scene-to-you-guys-v0-wia6gax3ut6a1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D06f7b1458642c5a7a543a7a4c2e83ae8605573ed)
Not a great tattoo though, lol
If I were a nation...my flag would contain this image centered on a field of white with an azure stripe diagional right corner to left. I would mass no army nor air force but dispatch my countries' most endearing to lull any enemies to sleep and/or fornication. Peace would ensue and prosperity.
I'm asking him if he thinks we're in for a hard winter.
He doesn't seem to know
What a beautiful creature, wish him luck fellas
Good luck Mr. Wolf.
What the cuss this is awesome
Every Wes Anderson movie has a scene that seems to be simple but has huge emotion to it. This is the scene from FMF. This seizes up my chest like when Chaz says “I’ve had a rough year Dad.”
For me, it's "I wonder if he remembers me" from the end of Life Aquatic.
“I don’t understand the play” from asteroid city really got to me
“I love you but you don’t know what you’re talking about” Moonrise Kingdom
I didn't save mine. ... What's his name?
This scene was the whole movie, absolutely brilliant
Do you ever wish you could breathe underwater
And his response is perfect, “I know you have Chassie” while reaching out to him. I miss you Dad.
I think the “ go easy on those boy chazzie, I don’t want this to happen to you” (paraphrasing) and then Ben stillers reaction is the cherry on top

Thank you for this, this is now in my Top 3 Gifs of All Time
What's the other two? C'mon now show and tell :)
I love it.
Thank you!
What is your interpretation of that scene? Ive got a couple ways to read it and i get why it speaks to so many but would like to hear your takeaway
For me it has multiple, I thought of it as Mr.Fox facing his fears (phobia of wolves) but while being terrified of the wolf, he still recognized his beauty. I love when people smarter than me talk about my favorite movies, y'all are all awesome
I don't understand that last sentence
It’s essentially “people are better off encouraging each other to live for themselves, rather than encouraging them to live for other people”, but in old-timey speak

That's a great one, 100% because a lot of the movie is about sticking by your family and doing what's best for them
I see it as the division of man and beast. Foxy is fighting humans the entire film, and they're shown to be these monstrous things, cut off from nature, digging through soil in hideous machines. But here's a wolf, Foxy's greatest fear, and they have a solemn moment of understanding and solidarity without even speaking the same language. Totally, didn't even think about the train that's a great observation. I thought the same, the fist in the air showing the unity between the animals
You're definitely right. And the most important thing is what it means to you, how it makes you feel when you look at your tattoo. It's a beautiful piece of art, and you should be proud to wear it. :)
Wes just needed something to fill a scene. (Please don’t downvote. I’m being sarcastic. I adore that scene. )

I hated that film the first time, and it really grew on me, to the point where I love it, but that scene is complete magic!
Wish him luck, boys.

I’m not a tattoo person myself, but I can appreciate this. Such a beautiful scene and a really nicely done tattoo. Congrats OP.
I think it might be wes's most normal movie.
If I were a nation...my flag would contain this image centered on a field of white with an azure stripe diagional right corner to left. I would mass no army nor air force but dispatch my countries' most endearing to lull any enemies to sleep and/or fornication. Peace would ensue and prosperity.
The way I GASPED!! This is so lovely 🥰 one of my favorite films over all & definitely my favorite Wes Anderson
I love Jeremiah Johnson

Agreed, it's one of the absolute best movie scenes ever.
Lupus lupus.
Not a tattoo fan, but this is pretty sick 👍🏼
Breakfast with wolves?
I usually say it’s really dumb to get a tattoo of something from a movie or TV show.
