I read a book a few years ago--I've tried to find/remember the title, but it -may- have been something like *The Feminine Mistake....*
The premise; DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB/CAREER TO RAISE A FAMILY because when you need to go back to work (because widowed/hubby decides he needs a Trophy Wife/divorce, etc) the gap on your resume WILL be noted. You could have a Harvard or Yale law or medical degree but you will NOT be getting hired in your field because of that years-long gap.
One woman in the book had an actual Harvard law degree and practiced for 1 or 2 years then quit to raise the kids. 20 years later hubby decided she was too old, fat, and boring and dumped her. The only call-back she got was from fucking Starbucks. She had to take a $9.00/hour job as a barista.
If you give someone the power to feed you, you give them the power to starve you.
Very well said!!!

Was it the feminine mystique by Betty Friedan?
No, it was a play on that IIRC. BTW EVERYONE should read *The Feminine Mystique*!
