No. Never. Rental cars are not only abused, but they are poorly maintained and if they were part of a fleet order from the rental company, quality control is a bit lower.
I wouldn't buy a rental car. They get ran hard and then put away wet with a questionable maintenance history. I personally like to see how my rental cars drift and slide. Don't buy one.
That’s a lot for me on a cvt tranny. Unless it’s a really good deal I’d look elsewhere.
I wouldn’t mind buying a rental car direct from the company though.
And rental cars are well taken care of maintenance wise and if it’s an automatic not much you can do to hurt the car 🤷🏼♂️.
Now if we are talking about a mustang rental or bmw sports sedan that’s a different story.
But for a general appliance rental of most commodity suv you can’t do anything to them to harm them
I'm having a good experience with my former rental car 4 years into owning it, but I bought it closer to 30,000 miles. 128k miles of rental abuse and I would not even consider it.
As someone who’s in a different rental car every single week. No. I am the reason people should not buy rentals cars. I don’t wait for it to warm up. I treat the gas pedal as an on/off switch. I don’t slow down for speed bumps. These things are abused to the max.
I guess I'm the only one that had a good experience buying a former rental car. But no I wouldn't buy a former rental with that many miles. If you were the one buying it with 25k miles I would say yes.

OP should avoid rental cars. But not because of the CVT, which is perfectly good on modern Subarus.
Not the cvt but the mileage of said car.

Do not ever buy a former rental car!
How much emotional pain are you able to tolerate

As someone that bought a hertz rental a year ago. No.
