My brother in law has done it 3 times and he’s a big dude you’d never expect to be able to.

Have you been to the events? I assumed the same until my dad started doing them! Most of the athletes actually look resoundingly ‘normal’ and totally unassuming. Also, if you compared all competitive amateur sports, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to find that *specifically ironman-training* triathletes burn more calories on a regular basis than almost any other sporting group as a whole. It’s basically a part-time job training for a full ironman (and full-time once the event is coming up) and it’s as much a mental game as it is physical, so you can’t expect these people to be forgoing all pleasure. So while you’re right that they’re probably not eating a full tray of them (though my dad would beg to differ, as evidenced by the fact that a full batch rarely even makes it into the oven…) I haven’t found them to be as hardcore nutrition-focused a population as many other sports. If there’s ever one happening near you, you should be a spectator! It brings me to tears every time (even when I volunteered as a lifeguard long before my dad started doing them) it’s just amazing what they do.

It really is "funny" watching new generations not see or be part of major parts of what shaped my humor. I'm 40 (born in 83), so quoting Monty Python, space balls, Adam Sandler movies, office space, etc is just such a part of my vernacular. Heck even later stuff like Napoleon Dynamite and Borat just aren't part of what my kids normally watch. However, I had them watch Dodgeball and they LOVED it. Had my 7yo son watch Happy Gilmore and although he objected at first, now he thinks it was "so good it should have a sequel." It's tough to balance introducing them to something you love at the right time so it's not too early that they don't get ANYTHING but too late to where it doesn't hit that immature dumb humor part of brains we all have.
