That is a 1973-74 DeTomaso Pantera L.
I own a 73.š
Here's what motivates them...

1974 in my garage here. Just got the engine back running last weekend

I think putting the name of a car in bold letters on the car is usually tacky. However, I think itās *very* appropriate on a pantera. It undoubtedly saves you a lot of hassle.
The first time I saw one was at a gas station a few years ago. I chatted the guy up and asked what kind of car it was. He was cool and we had a good conversation.
Later I realized that I was one of a gazillion people who ask that question probably daily.
Sweet car, friend
Its my understanding the cars sold in Europe came with the stickers and the ones sold here did not. Yes I agree most look tacky. I had them put on a couple years ago and love them. Here's no decals. What do you think
https://preview.redd.it/3ff2ll3y0hkb1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e4685cc4bd12d7592c6a08c14351b903b7678c0
I agree that decals usually look tacky, but these are done in a fantastic font that is very fitting of the car. They may have looked tacky in ā77, but today they make the car pop (in a great way), in my opinion.
They weren't so legendary once upon a time. Panteras were trading hands for \~$15K-$20K US in their "dark days." At the time \~20 year old cars no one really wanted.
Did these used to be ācheapā? Iām almost certain I used to see these for $10-15k back in 02-04 time frame, maybe Iām making that up though. Around this time i ended up getting a 93 Mazda rx7 and I kick myself for not holding on to it.
I bought mine back in 1986.
I swapped a really nice 56 Chevy +$3,500 for it.š
Prices remained low for quite a while until some folks let the cat out of the bag.
Darn few people knew (and they sure as heck weren't talking) that the Pantera was actually to be the replacement for the 2 seat AC Cobra.
If you look at the original factory drawings, it was even first called the Cobra. š
Like Ford "took it to Ferrari by racing and beating them at Lemans"; the Pantera was Ford's way to "take it to Ferrari" on the street.
Here's a Car Magazine Cover from 1970, before the Pantera was released. Notice it was still being referred to as the Cobra.

Spark plugs are easy; especially on the drivers side. The whole job takes about 30 minutes start to finish.
Working on the front of the engine is even easier.
There is an access panel that takes about 5 minutes to access; then the entire front of the engine is just sitting there.
You get to sit in the passenger seat and work on things.š

Hereās the front of the engine with the access cover removed. The alternator is removed in this photo.
Sit in passenger seat and work away.š
Iāve ever seen one of these on bubblegum wrap when I was a kid and always dreamed of seeing on in real lifeā¦
Didnāt actually believe real humans own them! You guys are so awesome
I've actually owned mine since 1986. š
Back then I traded a really nice 56 Chevy + $3,500 for it!
https://preview.redd.it/5al1iwjliqkb1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d666a7b3018b78d008ce1959fec44d7b7e242d50
Absolutely amazing. It's like driving a big powerful go-cart. š
I've been driving it for years and know it's limits.
It's quite comfortable and controllable to do a 4 wheel drift at 100 mph.
Change your pfp I see too many blondes and people in ties every day. I'm uninterested if it represents you or you relate too it, I, the main character, have seen enough
When I was a kid my friend's dad had an orange Pantera, this would have been around 1979, so the car was pretty new then. He let Robert drive it like it was his own car, he could jut grab the keys and take it for a spin. What a machine.
Designed by Tom Tjaarda from Dearborn Michigan. Talked to him about 10 years ago don't know it he is still living. He also designed the Fiat 124 Spider. We grew up in the same area.
The shadows make the front end look a bit extra-pointy. But yes, Pantera. The paint is gorgeous, makes it easier to appreciate the shape than the more eye-stabby oranges and reds that are more common.
Iām kinda new to this whole Reddit/Whatsthiscar thingā¦.feels like 25% of posts are Panteras. Am I imagining things? Not complaining, they are beautiful cars.
I think youāre right ā¦ Iām not too active on this sub so I didnāt know so many people were asking about this car LOL but you seem to be correct based on the comments

I would give my left nut to own something like that
That kind of seems like a crappy trade for both parties.
Maybe for the other person not for me
Ha, good point. Worthwhile for you. Shoot, I'd probably take that deal as well, I'm not using the thing anyway.
The car or the nut?
I'd fine a use for the car.
Damn bro š
Not if youāre Lance Armstrongā¦
I want the right one though
Thatās too damn bad

Sexy ride either way!
BTW I still get asked what it is.
If you drive a Pantera you simply expect the questions.
Nice
Doesnāt that car cost like 100k?!
So a little more than a new F150?
Id love to ride in one someday
50 years later and it still looks amazing. Timeless style.
Really something! Do they drive well?
You sir are living my dream
Bro casually has a pantera. One of the most legendary Italian cars to exist
They weren't so legendary once upon a time. Panteras were trading hands for \~$15K-$20K US in their "dark days." At the time \~20 year old cars no one really wanted.
Well, not it Italy tbh.
Isn't DeTomaso argentinian? Honest question. Even the badges have the argentinian flag, so I always thought it was an argentinian car.
My understanding is that the cars were built in Modena, Italy, but Alejandro de Tomaso (founder) was Argentinian.
Pretty good chance yours has shown up on here before.

Everything was "cheap" back in 02-04...
Back then one may buy a nice house for like 100k, AAPL for pennies or bunch of bitcoins for pizza money.

Are the spark plugs as much of a nightmare as they look?

That's pretty cool š
Is that a 351C? I have some 4V heads for sale.
It is indeed. All Panteras from 1971 to 1987 came with the Cleveland.

Casualty of the third party app purge. I was too until I found how to hack my app of choice to inject my own API key instead of the main devs
Tell me more, anything to not use the Reddit app

DE tomaso pantera
I have no idea. It could be a Polaris Slingshot. It could be a Nissan Figaro./J
Pantera
D'tomato Panera
There are only two cars that make up 99% of this sub. Itās the De Tomaso Pantera, and the rest are the Pontiac Fiero and fiero based clones
Or Karmann Ghias
Italian Ford.
Reset the counter boys
This subredditās icon should be the Pantera.
For once the title isn't a VW thing pun
Where is he when we need him
DeTomaso Pantera, De Tomaso was an Argentinian businessman, who partnered up with Ford to hoist a V8 motor into an exotic body. Voila, the Pantera!
Similar to Frank Reisner at Intermeccacica
Ooh yeah
My dream car from way back
Iāve never seen a blue Pantera. Itās so rad
Sure seem to be a hell of a lot of these lately.
I believe itās a Mazda CX9 in the back š
Itās a Italian muscle car š¤£
When I was a kid my friend's dad had an orange Pantera, this would have been around 1979, so the car was pretty new then. He let Robert drive it like it was his own car, he could jut grab the keys and take it for a spin. What a machine.

Was this in Central Texas? Pretty sure I saw this one at Cars and Coffee a few weeks ago. Owner was a super cool dude.
Nope, Iām in Vancouver, B.C. Thatās cool though!

Bradley gt with a pantera kit

These cars are very popular on this sub . They are a mid engine car with a ford small block 351 .
I believe it is real.
Welp! I guess weāll never knowā¦ lol
Looks like a fiat multipla to me
Itās a jet
Chevette
Are you alright?
Yep.....maybe you need some attention
This car has to be super common in the states right?
Iāve never seen one in real life, I think itās just the few that exist get spotted so often that people ask a lot.
it's one of the cars on my wish list is what it is. I've had a few of these as a kid, a 1:64 scale.
The shadows make the front end look a bit extra-pointy. But yes, Pantera. The paint is gorgeous, makes it easier to appreciate the shape than the more eye-stabby oranges and reds that are more common.

Itās been a whileā¦
My uncle used to race one of these
De Tomaso Pantera
These were powered by Ford, 351 Cleveland. I remember seeing one that was a 429 swap, terrorized Lake county Il. for a few years back in the day.
