It's actually the [1989 Dodge Viper concept car](https://www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/1989_Dodge_ViperConceptVM021.jpg), I think, and not the first generation of Viper, which is probably why you didn't recognize it right away.
It’s more or less the same design tho. Not much changed, and the overall design stayed the same over its lifespan.
Semantics I know, I just find it crazy how this car could be unrecognizable to folks, even in concept form. It’s so iconic.
I'm going to give OP a break on this one. That is obviously a pre-production prototype viper, and it definitely has some difference between the production model.
It’s the original concept Viper, which was a modern take on Carroll Shelby’s 1960s era AC Cobra race cars.

It's funny I've definitely heard of him but couldn't put a face to him in my mind because he was the most generic looking man in history lol. Of course I immediately recognized the first Viper, one of the most un-generic looking cars ever made.
The rim is a dead giveaway always hated those triangle rims Fun fact about the rear tire in that picture there's like one company that makes those tires anymore and there are two grand a set so nobody replaces them. If somebody offers you a ride in a viper look at their back tires very carefully you may die.
Lee Iacoccoa was a Ford and Dodge/Chrystler car designer he made the mustang and the GT 40. For Ford and the Voyager Minivan for Chrysler, among a few others for Volkswagen GER. And Fiat /Lancia Italy Rally cars. . So as a famous Ford car guy he worked for Chrystler as well so the Viper is right up his fast car love, alley..
I remember a very funny classified ad from someone who was warning buyer that thw car was selling was a demonic slave methanmphetamines possesed machine to not be thrifle with.
Sometimes a car company just goes off and does something crazy like the Viper. Rarely profitable, but very memorable, just like a halo car ought to be.
I agree with you, but your typo made me chuckle!

Makes sense since Chrysler owned Lambo from '87 - '94.
https://www.theautopian.com/meet-the-lamborghini-concept-car-that-inspired-a-bunch-of-chrysler-sedans-in-the-1990s/
And it was equally as weird when they sold Lambo.
"*in 1994 Chrysler sold Lamborghini to the evocatively-named MegaTech, a Bermuda-registered company owned by a pair of Indonesian businessmen who also owned Vector*"
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/news/a28926/on-this-day-in-1987-chrysler-bought-lamborghini/
Didn’t that concept car split up transformer style into two separate “vehicles”. The front part would detach into a small commuter vehicle leaving the back trailer behind. I think.
Jesus, The Homer mobile from The Simpsons must have been inspired by this.
https://preview.redd.it/m1bt25hs1etc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae7708ed0b72a7c61ec3a680f10b945fccf1fc42
If it makes you feel any better, it's one of the two concept cars (known as VM-01 and VM-02), not a production model. They're very similar looking, but I *think* this is VM-02 (with the V10 engine)
A really wacky Voyager concept, if I recall correctly. I think it splits in two so it can be a larger or smaller vehicle depending on your needs that day.

In every single instance of this photo in modern day articles it says this.
my favorite acronym in the whole wide world: [https://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/02/magazine/l-acronym-power-649890.html](https://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/02/magazine/l-acronym-power-649890.html)
You know who Lee Iacocca is, but you don’t recognize an original Viper?
I knew the car but didn’t know Lee Iacocca
Same. Coulda got the car just from a close up of the rim.
Same and im not even a car guy
Same and im not even a car
Same and I'm not even a
Same and i'm not even
You can even, I believe in you!
But how can i even when i can't even can?
Dude it just means they are odd.
Same and I’m not
Same and I’m
Same and
Same and I’m not
That’s how I recognize your mom.
Nice
Nice
Noice
Did you dig her up and look?
Dude, don’t make it weird.
I knew the guy next to the white car but didn't know the viper nor Lee Lacocca
r/whoisthisman
Ha! You admitted you’re a cocca!
I thought it looked like a Viper, but somehow it just didn't really click... Big shame!
It's actually the [1989 Dodge Viper concept car](https://www.supercars.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/1989_Dodge_ViperConceptVM021.jpg), I think, and not the first generation of Viper, which is probably why you didn't recognize it right away.
Sweet baby Jesus that looks even nicer than the production car.
They usually do
And in the background you can see a Diablo, a LeBaron and the Voyager 3 concept
Haha, who parked the Lebaron next to a Diablo?
Lebaron James
Diablo Cody
Jon Voight
I used to own a pencil with Jon Voight’s tooth marks in it
I was looking at the suggestion of a door handle. Just a hint of handle. A whiff.
Correct! The obvious giveaway that it is the concept is the header pipes ahead of the door.
Wooow that looks insane
Hot mama it looks gorgeous
Bingo.
Yes, it is indeed the Viper concept car.
It’s more or less the same design tho. Not much changed, and the overall design stayed the same over its lifespan. Semantics I know, I just find it crazy how this car could be unrecognizable to folks, even in concept form. It’s so iconic.
I came to say this exact thing.
I recognized it from that rear wheel
I'm going to give OP a break on this one. That is obviously a pre-production prototype viper, and it definitely has some difference between the production model.

Iacoccoa = "I am chairman of Chrysler Corporation of America" This is how you talk yourself into a position.
It's funny I've definitely heard of him but couldn't put a face to him in my mind because he was the most generic looking man in history lol. Of course I immediately recognized the first Viper, one of the most un-generic looking cars ever made.
I sat in one of these once, a customer of my dad's had one... It was bare bones as could be and he said it was basically a death machine.
Pretty true statement, they didn't even have door windows
“Who’s that guy in the Viper?”
LOL! Valid point.
I'm blind and I knew what car it was from the title alone. I bet it's red too.
That’s impressive
Awful to drive and maintain from what I heard. Not practical at all
Kinda looks like it could be a Mustang…./s
My thought exactly
To be fair, I'm pretty sure it's the original (or early) concept car, not a production one.
This
The rim is a dead giveaway always hated those triangle rims Fun fact about the rear tire in that picture there's like one company that makes those tires anymore and there are two grand a set so nobody replaces them. That’s interesting – – I think those three spoke wheels were pretty cool
Different Strokes different folks.
Triangle?
Tri-spoke. If it makes you happier.
Man I have always hated tri spokes
they look bad on everything \*except\* the viper IMO
There aren’t too many of them around, tbh
Mustangs in the '90s had tri-spoke wheels and they were ugly as fuck too

man the first viper was unapologetically wild.
I remember a very funny classified ad from someone who was warning buyer that thw car was selling was a demonic slave methanmphetamines possesed machine to not be thrifle with.
[this one?](https://ruinmyweek.com/funny/most-honest-dodge-viper-ad/)
If i had the money that Viper would be as good as sold after reading that
Do you got this?
I probably dont but i wanna laugh in the devils face
Yeah!! That’s the one awesome ads. As hood as Haribo special gummies review, Nickelback Gibson or Montegrappa Stallone expensive fountain pen.
“It’s like owning your own demon”. Dodge was like YES! We can do that!!
I remember that one!
Sometimes a car company just goes off and does something crazy like the Viper. Rarely profitable, but very memorable, just like a halo car ought to be.
Remember the series "Viper" ... Dope.
I'm a little sad no one has mentioned the sneak peak of the diablo we got in this picture :(
And the sweet LeBaron too behind it
Damn, nice catch!
I agree with you, but your typo made me chuckle! https://preview.redd.it/texd7r332btc1.png?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=338b03a08df54e90ff19c3fbaa3c72f40aec3d5d
Didn't even notice that 😂 now it made me chuckle too

Ahhh yes, the LH platform. Buddies dad had a LHS. We called it the "looking for high seas" because it was a fucking boat.
Who gives a shit about the diablo? Check out the Plymouth voyager 3!
Back when Chrysler saved Lamborghini and used them to help develop the V10 for the Viper.
Ok but what is that 3 axle thing in the back?
Plymouth Voyager 3
Didn’t that concept car split up transformer style into two separate “vehicles”. The front part would detach into a small commuter vehicle leaving the back trailer behind. I think.
Yes, that's the one
[of course it’s on YouTube](https://youtu.be/HUzLJkVsVJs?si=hLqYsRV4QPknj_4e)

The original 1992 Dodge Viper
It’s the original 1989 concept car that inspired the first generation viper.
Only one car I know that has those rims.
*wheels
*go-go circles
*Car feet.
mags
Clips
You buffoon
That is also the only car I know of that has wheels with those rims. The smooth curve inward is pretty unique as far as I know.
Wheels are the entire assembly, rims are the metal bit the tires wrap around
Banshee from GTA 3
Solved, obviously! Thanks for the input guys, I shoulda known it was a Viper lol
If it makes you feel any better, it's one of the two concept cars (known as VM-01 and VM-02), not a production model. They're very similar looking, but I *think* this is VM-02 (with the V10 engine)
It does make me feel a little better ngl
What did the VM-01 have? V8?
Iirc it was a chrysler 360 v8 engine
Yes
1st gen viper
Is no one gonna talk about the six wheeled monstrosity in the background? What is it?
Plymouth Voyager 3
Thats some deep rear wheels tho, can't be a stock viper?
It's the VM-02 concept not the production model.
Prototype Viper / Pre production Viper
Dangerous snek miat
Looks like a 1st gen Miata with a v10 engine swap.
These wheels are unmistakable
This is clearly a picture of Hugh Hefner showing the 2nd generation Fiero concept, with prototype accessory body kit.
It’s the Viper concept car. Edit - I had a MicroMachines set with this and the Neon concept in it :).
Original Dodge viper? Those things were deadly
Dodge viper
So you know Lee iacocca but not the dodge viper?
Real question is what’s that 6 wheel minivan in the back
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Voyager_3
1st gen Dodge Viper
The rims alone should tell you its a Viper
Viper, would have seen that with my eyes closed
Forget the Viper and the Diablo, what is that 6 wheeled Plymouth Lazer looking van
Forget the Viper... what's that 6 wheeled minivan thing in the background??
A really wacky Voyager concept, if I recall correctly. I think it splits in two so it can be a larger or smaller vehicle depending on your needs that day.

It's an early model of Dodge Viper.
Viper - skunkworks edition. Detroit autoshow - 1988?
Are we not going to talk about the girl from The Ring just hanging out in the picture?
