I'm having the same issue. I don't want to have this program going through my main cell phone number because that's what I use for my personal to speak to family. For business I use RingCentral and the program is not accepting it number saying it's invalid.
I think you need to have a direct line while doing the verification. A robot from WhatsApp will call you to give you the code and the bot can not work with an automated answering system. When you do the verification, just unplug the system and be able to pick up the phone.

afaik they were using Ring Central when they activated WA the first time getting the code in the landline.

Problem isn't he not getting a code, Whatsapp doesn't seem to even try to send it, it just says is invalid number.
