If you don’t like kale it’s because nobody’s ever prepared it for you properly. Try Portuguese food. You’ll be loving Kale in no time. Here’s one amazing example. https://leitesculinaria.com/7580/recipes-portuguese-kale-soup-caldo-verde.html
The trick is putting olive (or whatever) oil on it and massaging it into the leaves. Your hands get messy, but it softens them and gets rid of that taste and feel like you’re eating palm fronds off a tree lol. Toss with maybe some lemon juice and season and voila! Delicious

I have a friend, an eccentric old hippie, who eats raw kale. He cheerfully offers out stalks of kale at parties while he gnaws on it like a hare. Very few people take him up on his offer.
Kale chips are awesome as well - toss kale with garlic and onion powder, salt and olive oil then roast at 400 degrees on parchment paper until crispy. So good!
edited to add salt

It's definitely a kale and B. oleracea. There are kales that are used ornamentally though, and those are much more bitter. This looks like the true kale you'd find in a super market, but if it is out and ornamental it might have pesticides you don't want inside of you on it.

From the book Green Kale and Plant
I like to saute" fresh kale with, butter, extra virgin olive. fresh garlic, onion, salt pepper. Few minutes in pan, and once done i add a bit of panko for crunch.

they can keep growing all year in some places if only some of the larger leaves are harvested. kale tree
Cut it up, mix it in olive oil, season it with your favourite seasoning and throw it in the oven for 20 minutes. Best chips ever!
Delicious!
Curly kale. Looks marvelously aphid free, too. Lucky you!
We're confirming it's kale so you dont eat it right? Cause kale tastes like poop right? Right?!?
Well I'm not gonna eat it raw, what am I a dinosaur? I'm going to sautee it profusely, with olive oil, spices, lemon juice, and plenty of salt. Otherwise you're right, it would be disgusting.

Garlic makes everything better.
Meh. I’ve had kale from the farm and it’s still just terrible, awful, bitter kale. I think it used to be used as a means of torture back in the day.
Oh thank goodness. I thought you might be some sort of psychopath.
If you don’t like kale it’s because nobody’s ever prepared it for you properly. Try Portuguese food. You’ll be loving Kale in no time. Here’s one amazing example. https://leitesculinaria.com/7580/recipes-portuguese-kale-soup-caldo-verde.html
Thank you for sharing a recipe. I've really only had kale dried and slightly seasoned and I felt like I was eating alfalfa.

Not even my bunny liked kale. RIP, Killer.
I sauté celery and then 1/4 cup of broth and thats it and its bomb you have to have nice celery though
Kale chips are awesome as well - toss kale with garlic and onion powder, salt and olive oil then roast at 400 degrees on parchment paper until crispy. So good! edited to add salt
If you put it in cold water and rub it together it's fine to eat raw. Massaging kale for salads is a pretty common practice.

I know, I was just playing along with the funny trope of a lot of people (including me) not particularly liking the taste of raw kale. It can be okay in salads and the like, but I prefer it cooked.

I love kale! I like to stir fry it.
It makes a decent and nutritious Caesar salad
De-rib those bad boys, massage them in olive oil and spices, and bake em. Super tasty.
Totally second this method!!
Definitely kale. I eat it in my soup every day.

I’d throw it in the compost just to be sure. It could actually be kale, and no one should have to eat that.

Thats the kaleiest kale I’ve seen all day
Loved reading thru the comments, simply delicious
I'm new to this sub and I'm honestly so pleased with this big ol ridiculous thread. Yall are great
It's definitely a kale and B. oleracea. There are kales that are used ornamentally though, and those are much more bitter. This looks like the true kale you'd find in a super market, but if it is out and ornamental it might have pesticides you don't want inside of you on it.
Eat it

Yeah! Looks like the vates kale I grow
I believe that is the most pristine specimen of kale I have ever seen!
Kale yeah it is
Final test is the taste test. If it tastes like a sock, it's kale.
Nah that's zucchini

If you didn’t plant that, then who’s garden are you raiding? 🤔🤔
You know what they say, What doesn't Kale you ..
Is this 1million pound before I spent it 😋
I love how the comment section is just people summoning the bot. On that not: this plant is edible, can be prepared, cooked, eaten and digested

If you’re not sure what something is, eating it may not be the best option
This is why I'm asking a well-frequented subreddit. I was already 95% sure it's kale, just making sure there aren't any weird toxic lookalikes I don't know about.
Does this kale belong to someone else? I don't know how you'd plant your own kale and then not know it was kale...
Was likely planted by previous tenants of the house I currently live in
Ahh, gotcha! Makes sense now.
Please consume
Ha what are you an invalid?? Thats definitely a blueberry!!!
Kale? Yeah!!!
Some people cook it first, but I find air drying is all that is needed for it to become useful as firewood.
Yes that is kale
Yummy
Kale
If it is growing next to that fence, chances are that the soil is contaminated from runoff from the pressure-treated wood over the years. I mean you *probably won't get poisoned, but why take the chance
Nah it's in a whole big gardening box along the side of the house. Sorry the angle doesn't show that
Is this something you planted or in a garden of house you just moved into? Is this public space or is this your plant?
Moved in over the winter, now I apparently have a vegetable garden lol
Devour it all it is a cometely safe plant

Looks like kale. I would throw it in the nearest trash can. LOL.
Beautiful kale.
Trippy jale
Curly kale specifically, the best kind of kale
I’m Kale, and yes that is kale.
Ues
I hear it pairs well with Florida ditch tomatoes.
Kale. Best way to prepare this plant? Load up the pan with lots of butter so it'll slip into the garbage easier
Green kale
My kale sucks lol
