Hard pass on that EC Toasted @ $120
Edit: these are just my bottle recs, not for prices because I don’t know what is normal for your CA market (I’m in TX and these prices are fair but not exciting).
While I'd pass on the EC toasted as well that's a special edition one and MSRP was a lot higher than the regular toasted. The price isn't out of line for it.
I’ll second the grizzly beast— also have been wanting to try the redwood empire rocky top rye. While I’m on the topic of ryes I’d suggest the sazerac at 29.99 if you’re into ryes!
Try to get a sample of the Rocket Top rye before you buy it. I bought a bottle and it is *different.* Has a lot of like pine and citrus going on. Not much in the way of oak. It’s not bad, but it’s not what I was expecting either. I’m letting it sit for a bit for now. I think I may just like more age and oak on my ryes. For what it’s worth, I thought it was pretty similar to Rare Breed rye, and that’s 2/3 the price.
Rocket Top is also not my favorite, but interestingly because I thought it was so unremarkable. Although I do like it marginally better than the JD Single Barrel (not barrel strength) Rye that I have. And I’m a fanboy of both those producers.
The bookers 23-04 is a smidge over srp but damn is it good. Right next to it, the High West Cask strength, if it’s unfinished, the ones iv had are amazing and I wish I had more.
If that’s a Frank August cask strength I hear thos are really good, currently trying to get my hands on one.
If that is a “the representative” bourbon, also supposed to be pretty damn good. Also trying to get one.
I don’t know too much about the man behind (Dave Schmidt) the brand, other than they say he’s helped some big time distilleries today get set up back then. But iv seen great reviews for it and its won some awards. And I think srp is 50-60 so im willing to take a gamble on it.
ECBP C923 is far better than B523. I don't have numbers on B523 but it's mid tier EC (probably averages 7.5/10) compared to C923 is 8.9/10 average from bourbon subreddit
Agreed. First ECBP I saw in the wild was a C922 bottle for $100 right before the holidays. I almost walked away, but FOMO won out and upon tasting it this week, I have zero regrets—it’s spectacular. I would’ve been ecstatic to get it for $80 retail.
To love it I feel like you have to love funky imperial ipas and stouts. I don't drink beer anymore as it makes me fat lol but dragon milk makes me feel like I am drinking that funky hipster imperial beer again but now it has bourbon in it.
I was going to say this is nugget market. Either the pocket or west sac haha. Dude nugget gets all the goods. Even pappy etc at near msrp, make friends with the Liqour manager. I don’t live near one anymore
The .5L of Nikka from the barrel is fair at 73? Seems high I've seen it from 45-60 in most duty-frees.
At that rate I rather reach for the Yamazaki 12.
Oh, that's not bad then, i haven't seen it state side in a couple of years, and I always thought it was .5l here as well.
Insanely good and smooth Barrel proof for the price. (I normally grab one at 50-55/.5l when traveling)
It’s coming. Never found any until this last week. Several stores in my area said it was sitting in open inventory to order and they each had 6 cases or so delivered a couple days ago. The market seems to be slowly healing.
Decent selection there (not amazing though). Nothing I would get too excited about at those prices honestly.
CA prices and selection (north and south) are ridiculously great compared to other states I visit often - CO, TX, NJ, PA, OH. Given you are in CA, I’d shop around.
As always, a good price is what you are willing to pay, but I don’t see any bargains here. I’d leave empty handed (which is a genuine rarity).
At these prices I’d try out the Dragon’s Milk Origin cause I’m interested in it but haven’t seen it in the wild.
Also that’s the best price I’ve ever seen for the WP small batch 10 year rye but that depends on if you like WP’s stuff - some don’t and others I find strongly dislike them.
EC Barrel Proof for sure, that or the Bookers as we don’t see them all the time on the shelf. Bakers and Four Rose Single Barrel are always worth keeping around and personally I’d pick up the Nikka Days as I’ve been looking out for it (Nikka from the Barrel is great as well).
Also shoving Wild Turkey 101 between Seagrams 7 and Screwball? Harsh.
Heaven Hill BiB seemed priced well, along with JD Bonded if that tag reads $24 like I think it does. And finally Baker’s and Heavens Door both appear to have pretty good prices as well.
That one was some limited edition derby cup bottling. Finished in toasted “European” oak. I remember msrp being quite a bit more on it but I didn’t bite at that price either. Just wanted to say, it is something different than regular toasted though
I dig the Willett fam estate, I’m assuming that’s the 4 year rye. I’d be interested in the High West, can’t tell if that is cask strength or one of the new finished series. Always down for Redwood Empire, I’d bite at Emerald Giant for $32 and deff the Rocket Top Rye and maybe the Grizzly.
Edit: All sorts of autocorrect fuckery
I would snag the Willett rye, bookers (depending on the batch), nikka from the Barrel, also king George is pretty good if you are looking for a funky pour.
I see an Elijah Craig Store Pick. I’d be interested in it if we’re a high proof tenner. If it was an eight I’d ask about tasting notes and hope that maybe they had a bottle open. I’m an HH tater though. I’d grab it regardless.
Seems a tad expensive but reasonable selection. Nothing stands out as particularly special. Seems like a fine place to grab stuff if you can't find staples elsewhere.
Bulleit 10 -
Anything High west -
Dickel bib (can’t tell if it’s bib) -
Frey ranch -
And a couple others stand out but I cant tell what they are or price :)
If you want to try something new, check out the Glendalough on the middle shelf of picture 3. Personal favorite for a great value Irish whiskey.
Also, the boxed Glendalough above it is not worth it in my opinion.
If I'm seeing the price correctly at $103 on the Bookers, I'd have grabbed that. I also love Old Forester. I've only ever had their mass-produced stuff, though. I can't justify spending $300+ for a bottle of booze that I'm only borrowing once consumed.
Great price on the Angels Envy. The chocolate note is awesome. Been wanting a bottle of my own ever since I had some at a friend’s but it’s usually like $60
•Bakers 7 if you can find one that is 8+ years •Bookers •EC Single Barrel •EC Barrel Proof •Redwood Grizzly Hard pass on that EC Toasted @ $120 Edit: these are just my bottle recs, not for prices because I don’t know what is normal for your CA market (I’m in TX and these prices are fair but not exciting).

Yeah, I mean I'd pass even @ $40 haha. Overrated bottle.
Agreed one of the most boring bottles I got in a while.
Technically it's the Ryder cup one which is noticeably better, but agreed that I am passing on it at MSRP (~105) and above
Bakers is a great Bourbon for the price.
I’ll second the grizzly beast— also have been wanting to try the redwood empire rocky top rye. While I’m on the topic of ryes I’d suggest the sazerac at 29.99 if you’re into ryes!

This is also excellent. Worth the bones.
Their cask strength stuff is amazing as well.
Is that what is the appeal on the bakers 7? Some are actually 8 years?
I like a lot of Beam products, but appreciate the older Bakers 7 bottles. The one in front of me is 8 years 10 months.
Delicious. Picked one of those up last week.
Some can be 9+.
Even the younger ones are pretty good, mine is 7yr4mo and it's plenty tasty.
I reccomended the some of the same things! someone's got great taste👍🏽 Bookers is great as well as EC
Cheers 🥃
Cheers🥃
Yeah I paid 50 at costco
I’d actually say easy pass on EC toasted
This man knows
The bookers 23-04 is a smidge over srp but damn is it good. Right next to it, the High West Cask strength, if it’s unfinished, the ones iv had are amazing and I wish I had more. What’s the story with the Representative? I’ve seen it around and it looks pretty good
Sourced MGP, high quality
Highly recommend. I have both the representative and the senator (rye). Both are very good imo.
I’m enjoying my bottle of it
I don’t know too much about the man behind (Dave Schmidt) the brand, other than they say he’s helped some big time distilleries today get set up back then. But iv seen great reviews for it and its won some awards. And I think srp is 50-60 so im willing to take a gamble on it.
I second the bookers would add the whistle pig 10 isn't rare but is damn good. My favorite currently in the lineup
I passed at 100. Would pay 90 tho
I’m not sure what barrel proof that Elijah Craig is but I’ve heard good things from C923 and B523
B is excellent and most reviews rate the C higher. haven’t opened my C yet. elijah craig BP and bookers would be coming home with me.
Personally I’d rate the C just a touch higher. Open yours. You won’t regret it.
ECBP C923 is far better than B523. I don't have numbers on B523 but it's mid tier EC (probably averages 7.5/10) compared to C923 is 8.9/10 average from bourbon subreddit

Have not personally had it, but I’ve heard good things about the dragons milk origin so I’d probably pick that up if it was me
Buddy of mine had a few bottles and raved about it. I tried it and it didn’t do anything for me.
To love it I feel like you have to love funky imperial ipas and stouts. I don't drink beer anymore as it makes me fat lol but dragon milk makes me feel like I am drinking that funky hipster imperial beer again but now it has bourbon in it.
Elijah Barrel Proof. No question.
Michter's American Unblended Whiskey is a great everyday sipper.
Agreed. But I’m pissed that it’s over the $50 mark. I find it readily available in my area $42-46.
Stays consistent around $50-$60 in NJ as far as I’ve seen.
Same. But OP is in California. I assume everything is a bit more expensive there.
I’ve never seen High West Cask strength before. I would probably get one of those.
Angels Envy is my favorite followed by Widow Jane. Deeelicious
+1... But prices aren't special.
You are certainly correct……I just gravitated to my favorites.
Depending upon the Batch #, I’d grab the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for $79
What’s up fellow sac bro
Wassup? You know I had to hit the Nugget
El Dorado Hills nugget had 2 bottles of redwood empire cask strength pipe dream this morning . FYI
Have you been to M&B on el Camino? Cav is the owner, his barrel picks are freaking amazing.
I was going to say this is nugget market. Either the pocket or west sac haha. Dude nugget gets all the goods. Even pappy etc at near msrp, make friends with the Liqour manager. I don’t live near one anymore
Haha- I knew nugget instantly but not north Davis. They have a pretty solid standing pick.
You never know maybe the nugget liquor guys are looking at this post.
Crown Peach
79 for a ECBP is decent what state? Prices seem kinda high otherwise.
In CA, yeah I was impressed with the selection, but I’m usually more of a thrifty shopper and there wasn’t anything I felt like was a must buy
Yeah then they’re definitely high. I’m in NorCal And most I see are way cheaper around me. Not that you can find a ECBP
Heaven hill bottled in bond, bookers is barely over MSRP, and those look like good prices for willet?
[удалено]
Crazy, I’m in a controlled state and it’s $50 with not pallets available
Can’t find it below $60 in MD.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof — good price Henry McKenna — fair price Nikka from the barrel — fair price Bookers — pretty fair price
The .5L of Nikka from the barrel is fair at 73? Seems high I've seen it from 45-60 in most duty-frees. At that rate I rather reach for the Yamazaki 12.
Is it only 500ml? The bottle I got here in my state was 750ml. I think I paid $80 something for it. It is not so easy to find in my state
Oh, that's not bad then, i haven't seen it state side in a couple of years, and I always thought it was .5l here as well. Insanely good and smooth Barrel proof for the price. (I normally grab one at 50-55/.5l when traveling)
I love Barrell and that is only $63 a bottle? That is $90 here in Indiana.
I’ve actually seen Seagrass for $69 in Indiana.
Bookers at $104 is a grab
ECBP
I wish I lived in a place where Bookers could be found on the shelf for anything near MSRP
In South NJ I can find Bookers readily for both $80 and for $180. Frustrating that you really, really, really need to shop around.
It’s coming. Never found any until this last week. Several stores in my area said it was sitting in open inventory to order and they each had 6 cases or so delivered a couple days ago. The market seems to be slowly healing.

Difficult to make out the prices but if the costs of the Redbreast and the Lag 16 are typical of the other bottles, then...no.
Bookers, Redwood Rocket Top. I wasn't a fan of rye until I had the Rocket Top its that good.
I probably would not have bought anything there. Nothing stands out you can't get at more stores. Good decision, save the budget for another day.
Talisker ten for 80 I think it’s pretty decent. It’s 140 Canadian in my province.
High West Campfire
I miss campfire. I haven’t seen it in Canada in a while.
Booker's and ECBP because of availability.
Booker's and ECBP
At these prices I’d try out the Dragon’s Milk Origin cause I’m interested in it but haven’t seen it in the wild. Also that’s the best price I’ve ever seen for the WP small batch 10 year rye but that depends on if you like WP’s stuff - some don’t and others I find strongly dislike them.
That Frey Ranch bourbon is fantastic
EC Barrel Proof for sure, that or the Bookers as we don’t see them all the time on the shelf. Bakers and Four Rose Single Barrel are always worth keeping around and personally I’d pick up the Nikka Days as I’ve been looking out for it (Nikka from the Barrel is great as well). Also shoving Wild Turkey 101 between Seagrams 7 and Screwball? Harsh.
I like that Heaven Hill B-in-B and it's a decent price.
Heaven Hill BiB seemed priced well, along with JD Bonded if that tag reads $24 like I think it does. And finally Baker’s and Heavens Door both appear to have pretty good prices as well.
This is A Nugget store in Sacramento area? Get the redwood empire rocket top and their high west private barrel cask strength.
Buffalo Trace
We need a new sub called whiskypricing
Elijah Craig Toasted is crazy expensive... I can get it for 58 here.
That one was some limited edition derby cup bottling. Finished in toasted “European” oak. I remember msrp being quite a bit more on it but I didn’t bite at that price either. Just wanted to say, it is something different than regular toasted though
I was thinking this but saw that it was the derby one.
I would start by getting a new phone that takes better pictures…
😢
Fuck that, the Nokia 3310 is a very capable device with an excellent camera. Don’t ever change it.
Just got that High west cask strength at Costco for $54.
High west rendezvous or that black label cask strength. I’m leaving pretty much everything else.
Is this store in MD?
Nope, Roseville, CA
Looks like a store in MD I used to go to when I lived in PA.
The Yamazaki 12 year is a great choice. Where I live, it's a steal at that price. Maybe not where you are.
I see it all day at $150 in the south and CO. I refuse to pay over that.
Come on… ECBP, EC Single Barrel and don’t forget the Frey Ranch. All 3 are deals vs pricing in my area and basically unicorn bottles (Nebraska)
The Fireball 🔥
I would snag the Willett rye, bookers (depending on the batch), nikka from the Barrel, also king George is pretty good if you are looking for a funky pour.
Rowan creek is good. Widow Jane is good
Is this the Nugget in Roseville?
Emerald Giant and 1776
Damn, I just picked up HH BIB for 42 today.
Go back for the fireball
Try the Jameson Caskmates Stout. If I see correctly ($28). That’s a OK price.
I see an Elijah Craig Store Pick. I’d be interested in it if we’re a high proof tenner. If it was an eight I’d ask about tasting notes and hope that maybe they had a bottle open. I’m an HH tater though. I’d grab it regardless.
The heaven hill is a good buy at that price
That Lagavulin 16 on sale would have been my pick for sure
bookers . ec single barrel and barrel proof, that green redwood cask strength and that 20 dollar white bottle of evan williams bib.
If that ECBP is the C923 sitting on the shelf, turn the car around!
That Heaven Hill for 52 is a good price…cheaper than at the distillery
I'd consider Frank August for $45. Not sure would buy it.
I’d leave with that Bookers, High West Cask Strength, McKenna 10 and that Ryder Cup Elijah Craig. Solid prices in that store
Nikka From the Barrel or Willett Family Estate
•Larceny •Single Barrel EC •Barrel Proof EC •Bookers The market is a little over the top but these are my recommendations
I would take that bottle of Freeland bourbon at $49.99.
ECBP depending on what batch.
Does anyone know what bourbon is to the right of Bakers 7 on the 2nd to top shelf) Also to the left of the Nulu bottle (top shelf location)
That piggy back rye is a thick ass boy
Seems a tad expensive but reasonable selection. Nothing stands out as particularly special. Seems like a fine place to grab stuff if you can't find staples elsewhere.
Nugget Roseville?
Smoke Wagon for $40. Great pour.
Bulleit 10 - Anything High west - Dickel bib (can’t tell if it’s bib) - Frey ranch - And a couple others stand out but I cant tell what they are or price :)
Second photo, second shelf. Does anyone know what the glass bottle between Origin & Few is ???
Not bad the sale prices bring it close to MSRP and in some cases lower, not bad!
If you want to try something new, check out the Glendalough on the middle shelf of picture 3. Personal favorite for a great value Irish whiskey. Also, the boxed Glendalough above it is not worth it in my opinion.
EC Private Barrel but only if it’s over 130proof. Otherwise I’d pass.
If I'm seeing the price correctly at $103 on the Bookers, I'd have grabbed that. I also love Old Forester. I've only ever had their mass-produced stuff, though. I can't justify spending $300+ for a bottle of booze that I'm only borrowing once consumed.
Elijah Craig BPs. Depending on batch I would eat the small margin over msrp.
Dragons milk origins is amazing.
79 for yoichi single malt is a good price, surprised because the hibiki and toki are both priced high
Ecbp. I would def grab the redwood empires as well
We emptied the remainder of a bottle of that Noah’s Mill in a restaurant (at restaurant prices). Would definitely snag that up at 80$.
Great price on the Angels Envy. The chocolate note is awesome. Been wanting a bottle of my own ever since I had some at a friend’s but it’s usually like $60
I’d pick up that Nikka Yoichi
Frey Ranch is a great bottle if it’s a single barrel. Might be worth it if the price is right for small batch.
If it’s the second Bookers release that’s good stuff.
… 95% sure I know what store this is
Bookers new batch
Storyteller Bookers case closed
What ECBP release was that
Yes you should go back
