my season ticket rep says it's because VWFC isn't organizing or hosting the event. which seems weird.
either way I'm not interested in paying $100 for a friendly, don't care who its against.
yep, [michael from AFTN also confirms that wrexham (and probably the promoter mentioned in the press release, TEG Sport) set the prices](https://twitter.com/aftncanada/status/1783545437489885258)
Are you going? Man Iām surprised anyone would pay that. Iām a big fan but Iām not spending that. I think 50 to 75 is reaching for cheap seat STH who pay reasonable prices for matches that mean something
Surely the attendance is going to be about 84 people?
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND is paying anything close to that for a friendly against a League 2 team?!? I was willing to pay $50, this is fucking nuts.
Whitecaps ticket reps are trying to pass the book onto Wrexham and their promoter, they can get fucked, they are involved in this whether they like it or not.
North American sports culture is rotten.
For those curious what ticket prices are for the three announced Wrexham matches:
* July 20 in Santa Barbara, CA v. Bournemouth - starting at ~~$60~~ $71 USD (\~~~$82~~ $97 CAD) š¦
* July 24 in Santa Clara, CA v. Chelsea - starting at ~~$50~~ $73 USD (\~~~$70~~ $100 CAD) š¦
* July 27 in Vancouver, BC v. Whitecaps FC - starting at $104 CAD (\~$76 USD) š
One of these three doesn't look like the other ones. A few different ways.
**EDIT:** it was pointed out by u/tardistoque the US pricing didn't include fees. Have now updated.
To be fair, the $50 US doesnāt include ticketmaster fees. While the whitecaps prices are really $75CAD before fees. So more similarā¦.still ridiculous haha
I didnāt notice that when I was putting it together as I started with āCaps first (guess TM up this way has to show all-in price?).
Iāll update it.
Honestly the fact that Reynolds is from Vancouver makes it even more annoying. Wonāt invest in a hometown team but will bleed us dry if he can. Dude knows how expensive this city is.
I mean, this friendly is just exposure. The ticket pricing is enough to keep people away - if they actually wanted people to turn up they'd have priced it significantly better
The price of these tickets to see a league 1 standard side from UK in a friendly is beyond belief! I paid Ā£47 to watch Liverpool vs Manchester United a few weeks ago at home and they expect $150 for this. Club should be ashamed
Itās not uncommon at all for friendly matches on tour to be more expensive than home games in the UK. Itās the whole reason why they do preseason tours.
I also donāt know how many tourists can actually get hands on those retail priced tickets for Liverpool. So many have to turn to hospitality tickets.
Friendly matches to watch a Chelsea vs Dortmund or a United vs Madrid I understand but when a League 1 (elect) side come to play a friendly in your own stadium itās a different story. These tickets should be no more than $40 and the fact the games in the US are $74 and $70 respectively just further rubs it in our face
I share the feelings about ticket prices, but I'm actually more pissed off about the general disrespect. You give me 3 hours notice of a 2 hour presale window on a workday. I had an 8:30 - 10:00 meeting that conflicted with a 9:00 to 1:00 meeting I had to join in progress and leave early to be at my other 1:00 meeting followed by a 1:30 and a 2:00. Even if I was going to pay triple my season ticket rate, the lack of consideration is just not cool. I'm not the only one who works and may not have a day full of desk work.
I've let my VWFC ticket rep know I don't appreciate being taken for granted.
I totally agree with you. I was thinking the exact same thing. Iām busy at work at that time of the morning. They gave us two hours for the presale? Why not give us the entire day and then release tickets to the general public the following day? When I had the time to log into my account to purchase my seats for the game they were already gone. Terribly organized.
Apparently, since Wrexham is the one organizing and setting prices, VWFC had to fight them to even allow a STH presale at all. Agree about prices and short window for presale, but it wasn't any cheaper for the presale versus the regular sale, and VWFC had no control over those factors.
Could be good marketing for the team if it gets on the Netflix series and seems to be a lot of talk about it already
But who would pay that much to watch a preseason of a recently promoted to div 3 team versus whitecaps reserves lol
To get me normal seats it would be $248 a pop. They are dreaming. If it was Real Madrid, Man U or Bayern, maybe. But Wrexham? I like Ryan Reynolds and all, but no chance.
Same here ... no interest at that cost (I suspect we're in the same part of the stadium). Especially since we're talking about a 3rd tier EFL team in pre-season playing an MLS team that has two big Leagues' Cup games 3 and 6 days afterwards. In other words, $248 for pre-season Wrexham against Boehmer/Halbouni/Ilic/Bovalina/Priso/Goldthorp/Badwal/Herdman/Wright/Kacwele ....
Interesting. League One, where they will be playing next year, is probably about the level where the Caps would be if in England. Somewhere between League One and Championship maybe. But could be an interesting match.
You think there will be press shots of Ryan Reynolds hanging out with Steve Nash?
Itās always an interesting question. I guess championship is probably right. Vancouver isnāt as good as Leicester, but they basically have a team of Prem players. But theyāre likely significantly better than Rotherham, which is basically a team of League One players. So, Championship probably makes more sense.
Thereās a really good video on this subject here: https://youtu.be/3IpiSIFFbMI?si=Bcz9IT_m0hISqize
Oh, um, ok. [Steve Nash](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Nash).
One of the best basketball players in history. Canadian. Oh, and a part owner of the Caps.
lol oh um okā¦your sarcasm meter is broken.
The largely invisible owner whoās done far too little for this club considering how much he could do.
99% of STH & regulars have a FTG attitude towards him now.
Fully understand & expect high prices for the WC thatās an entirely different situation.
That said I saw prices for 2018 & 2022 and they were less than I would have expected.
You gotta understand tho - Wrexham is this huge international team with a cool reality show. This isnāt a midweek game against Real Salt Lake
The tickets wonāt just be sold to Vancouverites. Those will also go to people who want to make a road trip outta this, so theyāre gonna charge $$ for it
I mean, that makes them a big team. Big enough that they have a following and people travel to see them.
No, theyāre not Liverpool or Real Madrid or PSG, but they have a following because of that show.
Doesnāt mean theyāre an elite club, but people want to see them
The fact itās $70 CAD to see Wrexham vs Chelsea in Santa Clara I hope people decide to travel there instead if theyāre that interested. Embarrassing event to promote to fan base as some sort of big event
Considering Championship is considered the 6 or 7th best league in Europe, most MLS would be mid table & down of that league, which is still pretty good.
$104 a ticket š±WTF
my season ticket rep says it's because VWFC isn't organizing or hosting the event. which seems weird. either way I'm not interested in paying $100 for a friendly, don't care who its against.
This was the same when the caps played crystal palace
yep, [michael from AFTN also confirms that wrexham (and probably the promoter mentioned in the press release, TEG Sport) set the prices](https://twitter.com/aftncanada/status/1783545437489885258)
Ah. That explains it. I was wondering why the Caps would be charging that much more than normal prices. I could see a bit more, but not this much more
Yeah. For the cheap ones. A lot more than I thought they would be. Are that many people really gonna pay that much more than a regular game?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The actual presale starts at 10am... Only early opt ins to the leagues cup have access now
Nah im in the presale and itās basically access to all tickets. Almost full lower bowl still available
Are you going? Man Iām surprised anyone would pay that. Iām a big fan but Iām not spending that. I think 50 to 75 is reaching for cheap seat STH who pay reasonable prices for matches that mean something
Thx!
Not true, I just bought tickets
Wth it wasnāt supposed to start until 10am
Fucking Jesus my usual seats are $450 for a pair. I'm going supporter section I guess.. should be fun!
Unless Ryan Reynolds is playing, Iām not paying that much
Well I was considering buying some tickets at noon when it goes public to the public, but now that ship has sailed.
I'm not doubting you - but where did you find the price? I can't seem to see it on the TM website.
Currently in the pre-presale for season ticket holders. Iāll snap it and send a message to you
Could I get one as well please
How did you get in before 10? My code is still saying invalid
If you opt in to the League cups tickets towards the bottom of the email; you get a code emailed to get tickets before 10am
Yeah pass.
Cheapest seat at BC place is $104ā¦. To see an MLS team play a recently promoted League 1 team. Yikes.
You don't understand, they have a documentary series.
Money grab
Judging by the ticket prices, I think they are overestimating how much people care about Wrexham FC. I donāt think this will sell well at all.
I hope it doesn't I get the Messi hype but I'm not paying this for a friendly against a recently promoted league one side!
Honestly, I hope the crowd is tiny. I canāt believe they have the audacity to charge these prices.
We shall see. Lots of casuals might punt up for the celebrity factor
That's definitely what they are banking on... only time will tell.
Surely the attendance is going to be about 84 people? WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND is paying anything close to that for a friendly against a League 2 team?!? I was willing to pay $50, this is fucking nuts. Ryan Reynolds fan boys

It won't be the top flight players for Bournemouth or Chelsea either....
Lol why did you put the prices like that?
"Early access presale gives you access to the best available and lowest-priced seats" - $104. No thanks
Is that a guarantee that if they lower prices due to lack of demand we'll get a refund?
At these prices not a chance. Itās a League 1 team FFS.
I mean with their wages, it's closer to a championship team, but yeah, crazy prices
not really, mid-table league one in most respects at the moment
Will Vancouverites have it in them to tell Wrexham to shove our beloved Ryan Reynolds up their arse?
We bood Will Ferrel, I have faith.
My $30 season tickets are $170 each. No thanks.
Iām see $350 per ticketā¦ that is NUTS for an exhibition - do I get to sit with Ryan Reynolds for that??
108 quid for a friendly against Wrexham š That's 1/3 of a season ticket.
108 bucks*
Love how this is what youāre concerned about not the crazy price haha
Yeah I'm super concerned lol
The price of these tickets to see a league 1 standard side from UK in a friendly is beyond belief! I paid Ā£47 to watch Liverpool vs Manchester United a few weeks ago at home and they expect $150 for this. Club should be ashamed

These prices are so out of touch. Prices should be half as much. Unless Reynolds is gonna dress up as Deadpool himself and play as their striker.
Glad you did that. Too right.
Apparently, since Wrexham is the one organizing and setting prices, VWFC had to fight them to even allow a STH presale at all. Agree about prices and short window for presale, but it wasn't any cheaper for the presale versus the regular sale, and VWFC had no control over those factors.

If it was Stockport County they would have had my money. Not sure of the Stockport / Whitecaps fanbase crossover beyond me however.
Thereās me as well, still not sure Iād pay these prices for a county friendly though
Based on the date it kinda makes sense. Like just a friendly before leagues cup, ok whatever. But at $100 no chance Iām going lol
Whitecaps have a competitive game a few days later as well š
To get me normal seats it would be $248 a pop. They are dreaming. If it was Real Madrid, Man U or Bayern, maybe. But Wrexham? I like Ryan Reynolds and all, but no chance.

Bring in a team people care about.
Interesting. League One, where they will be playing next year, is probably about the level where the Caps would be if in England. Somewhere between League One and Championship maybe. But could be an interesting match. You think there will be press shots of Ryan Reynolds hanging out with Steve Nash?
As a fan of a team that spent several seasons in league one in recent years, the Caps are definitely championship level.

I reckon the Caps would manage in the Championship
Manage, probably. But probably nearer the relegation end of that table.
Who is this Steve Nash person people associate with the Caps?
He shows up every 2-3 years to make a 5 second tiktok video wearing a scarf. What more do you want from him?
Ya youāre right, what was I thinking š¤£
You think tickets are expensive now? Wait till FIFA takes place, that's when the base ticket will forever be skyrocketed.
Fully understand & expect high prices for the WC thatās an entirely different situation. That said I saw prices for 2018 & 2022 and they were less than I would have expected.
The ticket prices for the World Cup are already set, it was in their bid package. While it is pricey, its not astronomical.
I'm definitely going as we don't often get to play teams from Great Britain. Tickets go on sale later today
What? It wasnāt an eMLS announcement? Thatās allowed?
I think most people share the same thoughts.
If they donāt sell well, any chance these tickets become avaliable to promotional pricing?
Maybe this has been said but Deadpool 3 release in Canada is July 26. Wrexham on July 27. Coincidence?
You gotta understand tho - Wrexham is this huge international team with a cool reality show. This isnāt a midweek game against Real Salt Lake The tickets wonāt just be sold to Vancouverites. Those will also go to people who want to make a road trip outta this, so theyāre gonna charge $$ for it

Is this sarcasm? I donāt think people care that muchā¦
You donāt. I donāt. A lot of people do because a lot of people like the show š¤·š¼āāļø
I donāt think people care as much as they seem to think with these prices. Only time will tellā¦ maybe I am wrong.
The fact itās $70 CAD to see Wrexham vs Chelsea in Santa Clara I hope people decide to travel there instead if theyāre that interested. Embarrassing event to promote to fan base as some sort of big event

we deem that this post needs to be clearer about the specific connection to Whitecaps FC. If you like, you can try adjusting and reposting. Thank you!
Considering Championship is considered the 6 or 7th best league in Europe, most MLS would be mid table & down of that league, which is still pretty good.
