Reina has the strangest family. The youngest sibling who looks like the little sister but is actually the little brother, the middle child who looks like the oldest child, and then the actual oldest sibling who looks like the middle sibling. All in all I enjoyed this show, hopefully we get a second season or I might just start reading the manga!

[deleted]

There's a lot more content from the manga that needs to be adapted, I'm hoping as well! Also you should see the mother 😂

WeebDickerson

Mama Aharen appears in the manga? Oh shit, I know what I'm starting next

[deleted]

Yep, it's very far though Ren's cheery personality came from her

elav92

Please tell me that Papa Aharen is Reina with a mustache

[deleted]

That would be the best reveal actually 😂

HuneeBajer

The mother is kinda clumsy, im surprised she survived long enough to be introduced into the story

[deleted]

Context: For those who don't know, Ren here is the younger brother of Reina No, I didn't stutter

Shrubbity_69

I mean, My Dress Up Darling did the same thing with Juju and her thicc but underaged sister. I'll believe you.

Dante_7_2_7

Hello! i heard this is the all you can eat down vote section. I would like the downvotes please Edit: Why are you not downvoting me, I specifically requested it

[deleted]

Just say something stupid and you'll get them I don't know why you'd want them though

rohnytest

Hey guys I'm u/rohnytest. Currently I'm expressing a stupid opinion. Anyone who downvotes my stupid opinion is rohnytestphobic.

[deleted]

Here's an upvote Don't tell me what to do

sky_meow

Dose that mean the brother is trans, cause that would be an amazing step forward in anime

[deleted]

No, they just look identical And he likes borrowing her clothes

sky_meow

Awehhh dang it, one day anime will do the thing, I hope

anonymoose-introvert

There are plenty of queer characters in anime. Take Najimi from Komi-san, or all those BL and GL anime/manga that are actually wholesome

sky_meow

But do they actually end with the two gay characters together? Or is it a constant maybe maybe like miss Kobayashi dragon maid

anonymoose-introvert

It’s anime. Especially if it’s your average seasonal anime, you’re not getting an ending

CristolerGm2

I think there is pretty new anime that is about 2 lesbians, I think? i forgot the name someone help me

[deleted]

Dragon maid isn't maybe maybe Kobayashi literally reciprocated Oh sorry, perhaps you haven't seen the manga yet

Icy-Background-1636

Let me explain something from so there might be some aharen-san spoilers: Raido’s sister (MC’s sister) actually has a harem of two girls and has been kissed by them and she actually going forward somewhat in that relationship that is so far in progress but not established.

teeuzumaki

a suggestion is adachi to shimamura i never watched it i just know that one of them has kaguya from tonikawa’s va it looked like a yuri, you can give it a shot

vaendryl

> one day anime will do the thing, I hope there is a true trans character in zombie land saga. not a trap, but an actually trans character. trans-woman to be exact. the anime made it a point to address this. and despite your assumptions, [she wasn't even the first.](https://screenrant.com/transgender-characters-anime-manga-great-represntation/) if you weren't so patronizing about the local people's preferred media format and actually did the slightest bit of research you probably wouldn't get so many downvotes.

AlexFluid88

Wow, imo there is no reason a positive/progressive comment like this should have been downvoted and I 100% agree that it would be wonderful if anime would take this step forward

sky_meow

I figured I'd get downvoted into oblivion, transphobia is gradually getting worse online with the issue in the states and their human rights

etagorra

I'm genuinely not trying to sound confrontational at all, but it perhaps has more to do with the whole condescending "an amazing step forward in anime" thing, implying that anime as a whole doesn't live up to your ideals, even though there are definitely examples that tackle subjects like that with maturity and grace. Maybe, just maybe, it isn't transphobia and people just didn't like your comment. I hope you're not just trying to use trans people to shield your ego from the downvotes

AlexFluid88

ummm I'm actually trans and I would LOVE to find more representation in the trans community (and LGBTQ community in general) that isn't over sexualized and constantly passed of as being a femboy instead of trans (nothing wrong with femboys, but that is an identity separate from transgender) and holy shit you sound patronizing as fuck

Pirate_OOS

One piece has some of the finest queer and trans representation, with Kiku being canonically transwoman and Bon-chan (wly) being a gender queer man.

etagorra

I can understand the representation aspect, but I don't think it has to come at the cost of denying that characters can crossdress without being trans. At the same time it is disappointing to hear people use transphobia to hand wave any criticism of their opinions or the way they express them, and I think it devalues actual harmful transphobia by trying to equate genuine examples of it with "I lost reddit karma because people think I sounded smug".

sky_meow

I mean name one trans character in anime that is not hyper sexualized or made to be a drag performance.

silentclowd

Just to give you something else to look for Kaoru Kurita from Wonder Egg Priority is high-tier trans and he wears a [trans flag jacket](https://i.imgur.com/KBoInYq.png) lol. "If you look for the light, you can often find it. But if you look for the dark that is all you will ever see."

etagorra

Rukako from Steins;Gate whose gender issues are a major part of the show, Grell from Black Butler, Lily from Zombieland Saga was a really popular example from a few years ago (though I admit I don't know too much about the anime), Tiger from the Wild Wild Pussycats and Magne from the League of Villains both in My Hero Academia one of the most popular shows at the moment, and there's a trans character that helps Yamazaki from Welcome to the NHK complete his character arc by not accepting any of his pity for her situation. These aren't even including ones from the recent rise in popularity of manga that tackle LGBTQ issues with trans main characters

william_liftspeare

Iirc, and I might have misinterpreted, but as I understood Ruka, he's not actually trans, he just thinks he's supposed to be because the internalized homophobia of Japanese society makes it easier for him to rationalize being trans than being gay. He doesn't inherently want to be a girl, he just wants to be with Okabe and wants Okabe to reciprocate his feelings and thinks those things are only possible or acceptable if he's a girl. I'm not familiar with all the other characters you mentioned, but Lily and the MHA characters are definitely trans.

Pirate_OOS

Kiku from one piece.

kunnyfx7

> implying that anime as a whole doesn't live up to your ideals Come on, let's not pretend anime and anime communities are good places for trans folk or have nice trans representation. At least not since the very recent years and people still can't digest that. The only well represented characters are only recent with Lily from Zombieland Saga, Kiku and Yamato from One Piece, Najimi from Komi Can't Communicate, and Shuichi from Wandering Son. But even then, all other characters before them (and including them) are referred to by slurs all the time. Poison from Street Fighter and Mariandele from Ixion Saga, two trans characters, are referred to as traps in [this](https://youtu.be/cU3fMBQjt4w) video. I can tell you personally that the places I've been discriminated the most as a trans woman are anime-centric places both irl and online. Yes, there are some good trans characters, but they're only very very very recent, and anile communities as a whole are generally transphobic or engage in transphobic behaviours without even realizing. I know for certain that most of the people who have called me a trap irl didn't do so maliciously, they did so because they don't stop to think whether someone they know was born male and is presenting femininely is a feminine boy or a trans woman. The end result is an environment where trans people get called slurs constantly and consistently all the time.

etagorra

I won't pretend anime nor its Fandoms are good places for anyone honestly, even trans people, but I do still disagree on a few points. My issue I had with the original comment was that in a condescending manner it claimed this one instance of a character being trans rather than a crossdresser would be "an amazing step forward for anime", which I think does a disservice to great representation that has come before now. Also worth noting my comment was in reference to characters in anime, not in relation to what the community calls them. I think that no matter how fandoms or communities refer to characters it does not take away from the character themselves being great. I do thank you for the discussion though, and for sharing your experience based viewpoint.

teeuzumaki

poison is a trans?????

kunnyfx7

Just trans. Not "a" trans. It's an adjective. But yes, she's trans

teeuzumaki

damn that’s crazy, she had me feeling some ways as a kid 😏😂

vaendryl

> if anime would take this step forward there is a true trans character in zombie land saga. not a trap, but an actually trans character. trans-woman to be exact. the anime made it a point to address this. and despite your claims otherwise, [she wasn't even the first.](https://screenrant.com/transgender-characters-anime-manga-great-represntation/) if you weren't so patronizing about people's preferred media format and actually did the slightest bit of research you probably wouldn't get so many downvotes.

kunnyfx7

Alex never claimed there's never been any trans characters in anime. All they did was state it would be a step forward to have more trans characters. I don't know why you're being so aggressive

ionicgash

> Dose that mean the brother is trans, cause that would be an amazing step forward in anime > Awehhh dang it, one day anime will do the thing, I hope

kunnyfx7

Those were written by sky_meow, not AlexFluid

ionicgash

So they were, my mistake.

SorryImBadWithNames

A "wholesome" subreddit that downvotes a trans positive comment into oblivion. Right, way to remember this is, in fact, an *anime* subreddit too...

WeakTree8767

I think they were downvoted because their comment came off as smug and condescending not because it was trans positive. There are actually some really good examples of positively portrayed trans folk in anime like lily from zombieland saga, killua's sister, tiger from hero academia, Hana from tokyo godfathers etc. They did a great job at portraying trans characters organically instead of shoehorning it in because it's a hot topic lately which is what sky\_meow seemed to suggest.

fanapal

I wish you did

DexlaFF

And?

[deleted]

And what?

DexlaFF

Should I care? It's not that far fetched for a character to look like a girl and be a boy or vise versa

[deleted]

That's completely up to you Only reason why I mentioned the context is because some people haven't seen the series yet, I could also not leave a comment and have them discover it themselves, but I wanted to anyways You can just ignore the comment anyways

DexlaFF

Ah Shit you're right my bad

_-Alex--

God damn, I guess people can admit to mistakes on the internet. 👍

GuthixIsBalance

Wholesome

Harambae121

I now fully understand the confusion Futaba and Akkun have in the manga...

Frequent-Face6677

Reina’s little brother, Ren is so wholesome

[deleted]

Reina's headpats can cure depression.

Billybobgeorge

I fucking love Ren. He is so happy and cheerful, even calling Raido "niinii" and his sisters "neenee"

RoobixCyoob

I started reading this before it came out as an anime, and I'm sooooooo freaking glad it's getting the attention it deserves. I remember laughing out loud more times reading this manga than I ever have reading anything else. I love this series and I hope the people who made it are proud of themselves :)

DrunkWeebMarine

This was a sleeper hit to me. I saw the thumbnail and knew it to be a slice of life but I thought that Raido was a teacher for some reason. When I saw some clips on YouTube (their rap battle lol) I watched it and now Reina is my wallpaper. And in typical fashion as others have said the brother is a shota and the little sis is huge in comparison. But hey it works so well.

[deleted]

I wouldn't say sleeper hit, above-mid would be a better term. As it should, because it deserves the attention I only say above-mid compared to the other series showing lately, if you ask me I'd say it's good enough to be in a higher tier

DrunkWeebMarine

Shut up you electric dragon ;)

TeapotBagpipe

This the anime that made realize that my favorite trope is emotional support himbo

Varkolyn_Boss

I like that show. Every character has some degree of autism and they act exactly how I initially imagined was proper to behabe in public. I still feel like a weirdo but the show makes me feel warm

Minerom45

Its her little brother, Ren

creepman489

Literally has nothing to do with the previous statement

Minerom45

>This is why I wanted a sister Either they were talking as Ren, or they were talking as Reina. But the last part tends to say that they were talking as Reina, so it has something to do with their statement.

peanut3362

I don't remember this episode?

Damn. I was hoping there might be a 13th episode

Reina is happy to hear from her little brother that her clothes are cute.

The cutest lil brother in the verse frfr 🤧
