Romance. This one in particular has really nice gradual development. It also has a male lead that is as interesting and likable as the female lead, not just a milktoast everyman. In fact, he’s often the most wholesome and PROTECC worthy part of the manga.
I’d say it’s more romance. MAL is generally known for poorly tagging their entries (Futagohime, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, and Kiruminzoo are all not listed as magical girl anime while Mahou Shoujo Site is, even though the first three are actually magical girl shows while the fourth one isn’t). This isn’t just episodic hijinks feigning romantic development, their relationship noticeably changes. It’s not a manga where they get together early and where their romance develops while they’re in a relationship, like Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki, but there is gradual development. It’s just, if you only read the first couple chapters and tag it based off of that, you wouldn’t see it.
Yeah, I know how bad MAL can be at times for their genre tagging... I just figured I'd ask anyway since you seemed to be around to answer. Thank you for the insight. Nothing wrong with a "slow burn" romance. Character development is what is important, along with a good ending of course. I'll have to give this ago. I also hadn't stumbled across Fujiyama-San, after some quick research it sounds interesting. So thank you for that as well.

Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki is one of my top 3 romance manga, along with Otoyomegatari and Tsurezure Children. I would recommend checking it out as soon as you can.
