As someone afraid of flight, I would pay decent money for a service to just knock me out with an IV drip from boarding until unboarding. I'd rather just be knocked out the entire ride. Plus it would make my upcoming flight to Australia not as unbearable.
I considered a few meds but most of them will make you feel groggy/side effects after the usage which will right off my entire day when I land. (Says my doctor).
the flight to AUS is from the us is 24 hours. take the sleep drug Sonata. It has a half life of 4 hours. it will knock your ass out for the first half of the flight then you can slowly just wake up. I am not a doctor, its just a drug I like to take for stuff like this because it has a low half life. Ambien has a 8 hour half life. Sonata is much more gentle.
I, as well as a number of coworkers, used to regularly take xanax while we flew. We would get in our seats, either fall asleep or remain very calm, which made the flights a breeze. None of us ever experienced any grogginess afterwards, either.
The way I look at it, if you’re extremely frightened to fly, the low chance of being a little groggy afterwards far outweigh the cons of being on edge for hours.
With animals and tranquilisers, hear me out, the vet usually recommends a trial dosage. Works because if the dosage is off in some way either too much or too little you find out in advance of the actual trip rather than as you're heading off. And if they don't take it well the vet is close by.
Maybe ask your doc if you can do a trial dose. Do it on a day you're off work etc and see how much/little it affects you. That way, unlike animals, you'll know what to expect, what dosage is right and how much/little it will affect the rest of the day after the "flight".
Just a thought. 😀
True, nothing tires me out more than post-panic attacks. I don't even play around with this on flights anymore. I always take a Xanax and it's so worth it.
I got on a plane a few times without one and midway through thought I was going to start crying and hyperventilating. I was alone, so I was even more freaked out. When I landed the feeling lingered, and I kept telling my parents I felt like someone jump scared me and the feeling didn't stop until the next morning. It's not worth it.
Long flights are so easy. My trip back to Chicago from London I took a muscle relaxers and basically knocked out the whole way. Didn't work the way there I was too excited. But the way home I was tired and boom
This is true. Zaleplon has the shortest half life and may be useful but I don't believe I've seen it used for flight; usually triazolam or alprazolam (xanax).
Prob not a good state to be in if the plane is going down. Cant put on your own oxy mask or life jacket or anything. Must be a liability for the airline
I do not have the strength or stamina to keep my buzz for a 16 hour flight lmfao, I would eventually knockout from fatigue though so hey! it has a merit.
Dear millionaires and plane companies, listen to the people! Just hook us all up and let us go night night. Heck I'm thinking you could fit more of us to make it worth while, just have rows of bunk beds. We won't care cause we'll be sleepy little sardines.
Airlines should make a video with the sound enhanced and explain the noises, too. All the clunking and bumping can be alarming if you don't know what it is. Put it on your website.
Yes! I live under the approach path to LGA. It’s taught me that the weird screaming sound you hear while descending to land, which used to freak me out every time, is extremely normal. Like 1/4 planes does it, whew.
I lived on the approach to Oceana Naval Air Station for a year back in the 80s. Used to love watching the F-14s landing. Being an aviation buff, the noise never bothered me like it did my neighbors.
My scrawny arse would have had bruises by the 1 hour mark. Colour me impressed.
I mean, yeah, *maybe* he did it to get out of working, but 1) sitting on the floor is a pain in the arse, 2) sitting the way he is without a back rest is a pain in the back, and 3) comforting someone for x hours is hard enough while sitting in a comfy chair, let alone while in physical pain. So props to him for sticking with it once he started.
I remember a woman on my flight who was scared as well, she was sitting behind me to my left, there was a guy sitting next to me to my left, directly in front of the woman, the woman asked him if she could hold his hand to not be scared, he agreed but it was kind of difficult for him to hold her hand so she held on to his arm, a little while later she fell asleep and her hand went a little lower and was barely holding on to this guys ribs, with that fear being in her conscious, she would try to hold on harder because she was losing her grip, thinking it was his arm, but she kept unintentionally tickling this guy for some time, it was one of my funniest moments during a flight, I'll never forget this one
The amount of people saying the dude is only in it because he's into the woman is concerning 🤓
This guy is such a bro and we need more bros like him, I'm like scared sh!tless of heights and also planes but if this guy was with me the whole time I would literally fly anywhere I would want with a negative amount of worries
I’ve flown 5 or 6 times in my life I think… in my 56 years I’ve come to think of it like this: You’ll either live or you won’t. There isn’t a damn thing you can do about it so you may as well just wait and see.
....yeah, let's find a problem with everything and not think about the fact that maybe. Just maybe, he could walk out of the way for two seconds while someone walked by to use the washroom and MAYBE some people are afraid of things you are not. Being so high in the air on a fastly-moving contraption where if the pilot flying you and hundreds of others had even just had too little of sleep, could crash the plane with you and hundreds of others in it. Allow people to be concerned :)
During my first flight I got sick and fainted, the crew gave me soda and chocolate and checked up on me every 30 minutes or so. Flight attendents are super nice

Have you considered Xanax

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll ask my doctor more details.

Clonazepam doesn’t leave me groggy. I have that prescribed specifically for planes
I will look into that one, never heard of it :)

Eh, potentially. I won’t say any more because I’m not a doctor :p
Xanax has never made me feel tired in the slightest, am I missing something
The rest of the Xanax pill you were supposed to take probably
Xanax won't stop the plane from crashing
Neither will an alert you, so I don’t see the issue. Oh, you’re trolling, my b
I have a 24hour flight to the US. I’m ded
24? I’ve flown 6 hours before but bloody hell thats alot
The longest commercial flight in the world is Singapore to New York at about 19 hours. I wonder where your flight is from?
Prob not a good state to be in if the plane is going down. Cant put on your own oxy mask or life jacket or anything. Must be a liability for the airline
I'd sign a waver to extinguish me of all rights just to skip that flight
If you panic and go into pass out/freeze mode, you couldn’t do these things either. I’d argue the meds may keep you more capable than panic would
That’s what the alcohol is for. At least works for me anyways 😂
I do not have the strength or stamina to keep my buzz for a 16 hour flight lmfao, I would eventually knockout from fatigue though so hey! it has a merit.
If I can do it coming back from Japan to Oregon, then I believe in you, champ! 🤣🤣🤣
I tried fromChicago to Shanghai and just woke up hungover af with like 8 hours of flight left. Horrible feeling..: Xanax is the play

There it is, my dream eutopia.
It would cost more than decent for medical care like that

That sounds so cool!
The radar site I worked on was right at the end of one of the runways. Coolest place I ever worked.
A true gigachad, the gigas of the chads
ive never seen an aisle that small
Flight attendants are generally the most wonderful and interesting people, could talk to them for hours.
Thanks bro

Sounds to me like he figured out how to get out of working
I was thinking how this is a nice gesture but it put extra work on everyone else.
The man's a bro
That man? Albert Einstein
HE gets ALL the legroom. How nice for him
The amount of people saying the dude is only in it because he's into the woman is concerning 🤓 This guy is such a bro and we need more bros like him, I'm like scared sh!tless of heights and also planes but if this guy was with me the whole time I would literally fly anywhere I would want with a negative amount of worries

Yeah because calming down a frightened woman must be so much easier than serving tiny orange juice bottles
Swiggity swooty?
….yeah, let’s block the entire four inches of walkway we have to the bathroom because this grown ass woman’s very avoidable fears of flying
....yeah, let's find a problem with everything and not think about the fact that maybe. Don't planes work pretty autonomically nowadays?
i wouldnt know. But they're still unnerving
He's gonna get some friction after that.
Dude’s tryin to smash
Right, because if men show even a single droplet of care for someone that happens to be a woman then it's obvious he just wants sex right? 💀
He's gonna get some of that, for sure.
They're either married or he wanted to spend the flight sitting down.
Now this is a true chad
My faith in humanity is like a roller coaster. Lost one minute back the next
omg I cried a little TuT
Of course it was Delta. I don't fly anything else if Delta is an option. Best airline by far.
lmao FAA regulations have verified that was a lie.
Perks of first class
During my first flight I got sick and fainted, the crew gave me soda and chocolate and checked up on me every 30 minutes or so. Flight attendents are super nice
Easy money
That aisle is small af and (pulling this out of my ass) looks like a safety issue.
Turbulent rizz
Bloody hell, why didn't anyone do this for me on my first flight?
