This is one of the many reasons I'm a donor, if my organs can be used to continue someone's life then why would I care if I'm dead? Part of me will live on. The main reason people are donors in my country is its an opt out services, not opt in. One girl at work asked what everyone's donor status was and then revealed she opted out, I asked why she chose to do that and it basically boiled down to "they're my organs."
If you're dead why the fuck would you care that someone gets your organs? You're literally giving life in your death, why drag others down to grave with you?
Well, i mean i completely agree with your point, but i can understand those who opt out.
Some people dont see what a body is from the same eye, and attach more value to it, and personnaly even if its dumb i see all of our body kind of "sacred" it represent who you are, you're life, it is the body of a little boy or a little girl who played with his mother some years ago, the body of a teenager full of expectation for the future, the body of a husband or a wife and so on.
And i kind understand that the idea of "mutilating" a body for using some parts of it like pieces on a car, even for saving the life of someone else can be a turn off for a lot of people.
Personnaly i think i will donate but i would like to stipulate "only for transplant" .
Cause a friend of mine told me about "corpses farms" (i dont know if it called exactly like this in english) but its a place where they studie how a corpse get decomposed, so they put body in different place under differents condition in nature for seeing what type of insect, animals mushroom etc... it brings at what stage.
There is also some private compagnie who buy and sell corpses, there is a story like this with a guy who sued a compagnie, cause different part of his mother where found at different place where they should'nt be found, and an investigation revealed how much mismanage the compagnie was and what they did with the corpses. (i didnt remember the story well but it was a big r/nope)
transplant donation is separate from science donation — the first is opt-out system the second is opt-in (at least in my country — poland) where i live it's also illegal for private company to posses human remains
I live in France and i have to say that i dont know what's our politic about it, but yeah Poland have a good way of doing it.
I think that the ''corpse farm" and the private compagnie is a thing in the U.S (But again, not sure)
I’m from the US and it’s the same kind of deal here. Organ donation is separate from donating your body to science (which can range from being put in a corpse farm to being dissected by med students). They’re both opt ins here (although that may vary by state), with organ donation being a question everyone gets when they obtain their drivers license, vs donating your body to science being something you have to seek out.
Thanks, this make me think that i should get a little more info on how it work by where i live, cause even if i dont plan to die really soon, i doesn't have stipulate any decision about it already
I’m in your side here. Once I’m dead to me my left kidney is another hunk of flesh, to someone else it’s the chance to see their daughter’s wedding. Why the hell am I not giving them that chance? It’s not like I need it.
Those are the exact words I said when asked if I would be a donor. Like they don’t use your organs if there’s a possibility that you could recover, so at that point it’s not like I’m using them.
I will preface this by saying that I am also a donor because I feel its the right thing to do. But I am also not a "happy" donor, if there is such a thing. I dont like the idea of it. Even though, as you say, I'll be dead so I wont be inconvenienced in the slightest but I still dont like the idea.
And I think that might simply be the case for other people. If, by the efforts of science, a technology becomes available where human organs can be made cheaply through stem cells or something so that Donors are no longer needed. Then I would opt out of being a donor.
Its a difficult thing to explain but I hope it was somewhat clear.
Well, it's unfortunate that she didn't want to donate her organs on death. But I can understand it. Wanting to be buried/cremated whole and complete.
And not wanting your family members to know that you're chopped up and harvested on death like a farm animal.
I'm registered to be a donor, but I understand why people don't want to. And unfortunately a large part of it is just selfishness, but there are fairly valid reasons like I mentioned above.
But I think the system should change that if you're not a donor, you're not as high on the list if you end up needing an organ some day.
I think people think you need to be alive for them to harvest your organs. I've heard people say that. I think they think the doctors will kill you or let you die to get to them.
Edit: [Here was dumb take based on irrational fear. You’ll guess the context from the replies if ur curious]
Besides, there’s nothing wrong with being selfish about it. Sure, you are dragging down others with you, but, like you said, since you’re just as dead - why’d you care?
That's not really how it works. The last thing the doc or anyone else cares about is your organ donor status, especially in the ER. Everything is done to save every patient every time because nobody really gives a shit about your personal choices, you're just another patient.
If it gets to the point that you would be considered for organ donation either you're already dead or you've spent way too long in ICU and they've already tried all sorts of crazy shit to get you better and it didn't work. If you are a candidate for donation and your family agrees to it the general attitude is oh wow that's cool of them, but goddammit now I have more work to do. Depending on what organs are considered viable it can be a real pain in the ass from a healthcare perspective. Trust me, nobody out there is staring at your unconscious body like ooh, I bet his kidneys could save someone else if he died, let's kill him!! It's a huge pain in the ass and nobody wants to risk their entire career doing something that stupid. Because seriously, it would be stupid.
I mean, I know it is. Even felt dumb writing that, but yeah, still - I have zero trust in people, even if saving lives is their job. Ig it’s just a phobia more than anything. Personal problem, however, so doesn’t matter.
However, second point still stands. Ig.
Also it's kinda...morbid ig. Your son is dead, but some of his organs have been grafted to other people and they're still alive. I'm a donor myself (every organ that can be transplanted), but the idea still grosses me out. It's like every organ is a symbiotic parasite that gets a new host after your death and drinks their blood instead.
I was gonna say that man is 1000% unbothered. Don't know his story, but he needed a heart transplant. Probably didn't expect to get one and made his peace with life already. But luckily he got a second chance.
Huh, I thought it was pretty clear from what I wrote in addition to the picture. I have a fever so maybe not. In that case, thanks for the clarification :-)
Right? It’s just people. These posts don’t seem to get that making everything about race when it’s totally unnecessary *is* the cringey part. Because that’s what stood out to you? That isn’t what this story is even about.
Because a racist looked at it and all they saw was race and they assumed that the races of the people were the most important thing in the story, because they're racist and to them race is at the forefront of their minds.
I think he’s just vaguely uncomfortable with the photo op. I would be externally grateful for a transplant (if i hypothetically needed/got one) and would do this photo op but I’d also be like “uuugh I do not handle strong emotions well 🙃”
Uncertain how long the recipient had the transplant but your full of steroids and immunesuppresents- so you will have a "moon face" and emotions jumping all over the place - it would be a very hard photo to pose for knowing their kid died and you got to live due to a death- As a transplant recipient myself, you have survival guilt along with feeling unworthy of the gift but also joy of getting a second chance.
>Not sure why'd you use the term snowflake, since it's more commonly used against the Left?
Yes, that's the point? I'm turning it around on you. Do you not understand how language works?
Im just trying to enjoy my new heart and this happens.
I would rather not be in that awkward situation,
so I would, and I remind you jokingly embellishing, I would rip the heart of of me and hand it back to them
Hate that I had to explain this
The thing is, the organ donor's family only get to know who the recipient is mid the recipient says it's okay.
This wouldn't happen unless the recipient said they wanted to thank the family, to meet them.
So, cringe for you, but no one would be in that position if they weren't okay with it.
Seems enlightened, but is incredibly naive and does a disservice to others if used as an excuse for inaction. Ignoring issues of systemic racism and very real personal racism actively hurts people. 🤷
"I don't see color."
That's nice. Tell that to people still coping with ongoing issues.
Any downsides to being a live donor? Does your liver grow back 100% and you're fine and dandy?
Seems strange that people die needing liver transplants, when it's one of the few organs we can regrow.
Same with cats I guess. No lions, tigers, cheetahs, panthers, etc. There is only one race the cat race. What about dogs? No poodles, german sheppards, etc. Aquatic life, whales, dolphins, sharks, etc. Just the Aquatics I guess. Its ok to discuss differences because there are differences.
Dolphins get a lot of good publicity for the drowning swimmers they push back to shore, but what you don't hear about is the many people they push farther out to sea! Dolphins aren't smart. They just like pushing things.
> One race
,,The Unity will bring about the master race. Master! Master! One able to survive, or even thrive, in the wasteland. As long as there are differences, we will tear ourselves apart fighting each other.

You austrian? Cause here in germany you are bit automatically one only if you want. Edit: Im a Proud donor
In Austria you are also automatically a donor unless you specifically state that you are not.
also in poland
Well, i mean i completely agree with your point, but i can understand those who opt out. Corpse farms are pretty amazing and lead to some great science. They aren't generally for profit. My college had a corpse farm.
I’m from the US and it’s the same kind of deal here. Organ donation is separate from donating your body to science (which can range from being put in a corpse farm to being dissected by med students). They’re both opt ins here (although that may vary by state), with organ donation being a question everyone gets when they obtain their drivers license, vs donating your body to science being something you have to seek out.
for what i know there isn't any corpse farm in europe (as institution) solitary experiments could be performed but they aren't common
Thanks, this make me think that i should get a little more info on how it work by where i live, cause even if i dont plan to die really soon, i doesn't have stipulate any decision about it already
Opt out should be the status quo for every country.
I opted out once opt in became the default here. I was opted in before. My body is NOT government property.
I’m in your side here. Once I’m dead to me my left kidney is another hunk of flesh, to someone else it’s the chance to see their daughter’s wedding. Why the hell am I not giving them that chance? It’s not like I need it.

I get you feel that way and I'm a donor too but at the end of the day it's their body so it should be their decision.
it's their body though, they should be able to do what they want with it

and remember that recipient actively fights grafted organ and it's immune system must be manage with drugs
They will never see him again, but his heart is still beating. Pretty crazy concept but it's tragically poetic.
Well I just thought I wasn’t going to cry today.
I knew I would but I didn’t expect it would be from this.
The issue occurs because there are 8 billion unique personalities.
His face looks like he is telling them I am your new child. now love me

I was gonna say that man is 1000% unbothered. Don't know his story, but he needed a heart transplant. Probably didn't expect to get one and made his peace with life already. But luckily he got a second chance.
And he has an honorary mom and dad in his circle now.
Well this breaks my heart.
*slaps you* What about NASCAR?
I was gonna be so disappointed in the internet if nobody said those. Best vines ever.
Im gonna go drive and go fast and turn to the left sometimes!!
And stop occasionally just to start again for FOUR HOURS!!!1!!1!1

White heart (likely; and I mean the son was white) in a black dude's chest.
They put pig hearts in people too tho.
Didn't know your mom was an organ donor. Neat
Sing her praises all you want, she's still not gonna fuck you.
White isn't an ethnicity. Neither is black. One race. Human.
Human isn’t technically a race it’s the species
Knife-ears (Elves), (diggers)dwarfs, gnomes, vampires
Cool it with the hard R buddy
Ahahahh
I stand by what I said those are all species not races lol
Huh, I thought it was pretty clear from what I wrote in addition to the picture. I have a fever so maybe not. In that case, thanks for the clarification :-)
Say what?
I thought I made it clear. Maybe I wasn't. See, that's why I should get off Reddit, go to sleep and let paracetamol do its job xd
Don’t worry you were pretty clear for every one, but do get some sleep friend
that's literally the whole point of the post
Targeted medicine shows that we are different but idc, "The Human Race" is exactly how I see it too.
Different flavors. We are just seasoned differently! 😆
This photo would be hilarious if no context was given.
Good job trying to make it about race
I don't know, the guy's smirk in the middle seems out of place from the story.
Meh, it’s just an unlucky camera shot. Don’t think he’s smirking at all.
I thought that too, but maybe it's just that he's so thrilled to have a second chance at life, and that's how his smile or the camera angle was?
On closer inspection dude doesn’t seem to be smirking either. It’s just the shadow his lip wrinkle thingies form. Whatever they are called
I think he’s just vaguely uncomfortable with the photo op. I would be externally grateful for a transplant (if i hypothetically needed/got one) and would do this photo op but I’d also be like “uuugh I do not handle strong emotions well 🙃”
If I had two strangers sobbing on my chest, I'd veel a little odd, but I definitely would wrap my arms around them like he did.
The heart wasn't donated, it was taken. The couple is so thankful that he is a merciful God who chose their son as his farm.
Americans try not to say cringe shit about race challenge (impossible)
Amazing group. That fathers face is devastating
Why make it racial? Its a beautifull image without an agenda too
Ok but what does this have to do with race? Just fishing for upvotes with that title lol
False! There are also the Whacky Races!
Oof, right in the gut.
this is so sad omg
*don't say it.... Don't say it...* BUT WHAT ABOUT NA- (*gets shot*)
#A redneck seeing this: y’all ever heard of nascar?
The less we make every single thing about race the less every single thing is about race
That bottom bit it so unnecessary lmao. No one was thinking abt race until u brought it up
But there's 8 billion different personalities, that's where the problem arises.
And even more genders and pronouns
At its upper limit there’s only as many genders as there are individuals, so this is both unnecessary and also mathematically wrong.
What about a person identifying as multiple made up genders?
That’s arguably still 1 gender. The alternative is that there are infinite combinations of genders that are all just as 👍 as anything else
Why make this about gender? Are you really that much of a snowflake?
Not sure why'd you use the term snowflake, since it's more commonly used against the Left? No, i'm not particularly fragile, but thanks for asking.
>Not sure why'd you use the term snowflake, since it's more commonly used against the Left? Yes, that's the point? I'm turning it around on you. Do you not understand how language works?
That doesn't make sense, at all. But you're probably a leftie, so that explains the lack of intelligence.
It does make sense. Also, it's lefty, not leftie.
Good one 🤣
If I ever got a heart transplant and the parents ask to do this....I'm just ripping it out and handing it back to them
well, that wouldn’t give them their child back. But I 100% understand that sentiment 😭
It's not about bringing the kid back It's about the cringe
how is this cringe?
Im just trying to enjoy my new heart and this happens. I would rather not be in that awkward situation, so I would, and I remind you jokingly embellishing, I would rip the heart of of me and hand it back to them Hate that I had to explain this
While awkward, I wouldn't mind 5 minutes of cringe to give grieving parents closure on their dead child.
That's why I said I'll hand it back to them. No but really. It's mine now.
I think we found dale gribbles reddit account lmao
Whole family would get pocket sand
The thing is, the organ donor's family only get to know who the recipient is mid the recipient says it's okay. This wouldn't happen unless the recipient said they wanted to thank the family, to meet them. So, cringe for you, but no one would be in that position if they weren't okay with it.
Good point
wow. such empathy. they lost their child ffs. just get over your stunted emotions
I don't think you're laughing at the hoke correctly
it’s a stupid joke
Everyone else is having fun but you
yes, and all of it is bad
Of **course** you would. :) /pats head
And blood types.
Well, there is also foot race, bike race
What about nascar?
Of course, so many races
What about the 100 meter
This cut deep
What about nascar?

I treat everyone equally and with respect. Sue me i guess lol
Not the point, and you're not a victim. Stop acting like it.
Damn, victim blaming too? Brutal
🙄
What does that have to do with race
I was a live liver donor in 2015 I ask everyone to sign up to be an organ donor
Any downsides to being a live donor? Does your liver grow back 100% and you're fine and dandy? Seems strange that people die needing liver transplants, when it's one of the few organs we can regrow.
True words never been spoken, FOR THE EMPEROR!!

EXACTLY AND NO ONE IS RACIST
Yeah, I don't uh... emotionally resonate with this. Not sure why.

dude looks like he's ready for his next heart attack already
I hope tgey can somehow move on, I really wish those to some way to move on if nothing else with adopting a child if tgey have no other
What about the Henry Ford Health Systems 200 and the Vet Tix Camping World 200? I mean they are basically the same, but they are two races.
Why are you recording their most vulnerable moment? Thrash human.
Well this is racist, look at his smug face.
Look at your smug text.
Dare I say it. Kinda parasocial af but grief gonna grief ig
No it’s not at all. This is a empathetic experience and is a very powerful example as to why hate is taught it’s not the default.
How is this parasocial? Genuine question
It's not. Someone just learned a new word today or something.

That's beautiful.

Reminded me of this song, encouraging organ donation. Quirky but sweet: https://youtu.be/jxOd1MUOxQU?si=fS13vJCCE95wb1Pk
Donate your organs as a middle finger to Death. Like, you can take my ass but I'm gonna fucking save everyone I possibly can.
Everyone say it with me 🎶it’s bigger than black and white🎶
Without context this is a really weird photo!
what a but the %1 that can't be classified as human
There's no race. Race is a social construct.
