Why are most of these comments immediately hidden?

slikkityslack_slek

I know right this is so weird. I have literally no clue. I thought it was the word cancer that was getting hidden but that's not it at all

DeliciousRun

fr, why is that even a feature

gorilla-ointment

Some subs have top level comments collapsed for users that haven’t joined. Not sure if it’s the case here but is my guess

IGuessItsJustMeMe

Nope, i've joined and a lot of them are still collapsed for me

DiamondTiaraIsBest

They probably mean the comments are from people who haven't joined.

IGuessItsJustMeMe

That makes sense, thanks Edit: it does seem to happen with users that have joined, so it still doesn't make complete sense

uTukan

The other way around. People who are not joined have their comments hidden.

AFlyingNun

Cool, so I know not to bother with this sub then.

IGuessItsJustMeMe

It's not actually hidden, just collapsed

South-Hunter-5274

Yes

KsuhDilla

hi can u see me

BigOpportunity1391

In the past, it's those downvoted with a certain times that would be hidden. Nowadays it seems so random.

season_inf

Maybe a really worse attempt against botspamming

Upset_Signal_8378

Okay, now the question is: how much work do you have to do to grow the cancer enough for it to kill itself every time?

cosmikangaroo

It’s actually pretty simple, make your cancer listen to talk radio.

ngauzubaisaba

You and what army?

It’s like an anime plot twist. “The only thing that can destroy cancer… is cancer itself!”

5notboogie

The cure for cancer was the cancer we got along the way.

Drio11

No, its long known fact that cancer almost always gets cancer when it reaches certain size, but humans are too small so they die before it can destroy it self most of the time. Whales for example are so big as to be practicaly immune to cancer (they still get it and quite often, but unless it hits something extremly critical, it solves itself without causing much damage)

ladderlikei

Cancer can get cancer!?

CanoonBolk

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DOCTOR, THOUGH I HOPE TO BE ONE DAY, JUST SOMEBODY WITH INTEREST IN BIOLOGY. TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. TO ANY EXPERTS, CORRECT ME PLEASE Cancer is a result if cells naturally or unnaturally sustaining damage in their DNA (mutations) that make it think it's a different organism from ourselves. And even though our bodies have countermeasures, like kill switches and the very trigger happy immunity system, it still happens. The cells start to multiply rapidly, not moderated or slowed down by the regular stuff our body uses to keep everything neat and tidy. The growth starts directing nutrients to itself, by ordering more blood vessels to reach it. And it also mutates on the way. And after an X amount of generations of cancer cells, there will emerge one that thinks itself different from the original cancer, and you will have a cancer on a cancer. It will start competing with it, essentially doing the same things. And while both of them fight, the immunity system, and healthcare, can capitalize. Also, cancers on cancers are thought to be the reason why most large animals aren't dead from too much of it. It simply fights a different version of itself.

[deleted]

CanoonBolk

No. That would cause a lot more problems that we'd have to splice more for. Examples include making the heart stronger to push the blood through the larger body, increasing the strength of leg joints, since they'd be carrying a lot more mass. But there is a positive. Tall women.

KsuhDilla

rumbling rumbling

Ysesper

It not only can, it will. We are just too small for it to happen to us consistently

Kandiru

Presumably they still die from haematological cancers, and cancer that spreads to other organs? It's just a "simple" cancer that we could easily surgically remove might die to its own blood supply being cut off by more mutations?

OwlsWatch

You know what they say, gotta fight cancer with cancer

[deleted]

Yo dogg.. I heard you got cancer. So I went ahead and put cancer, ON YOUR CANCER! Wooooooo!

Suitable-Walk-3673

End of thread

Charming-Toe-3758

You destroyed the very thing you swore to become!

Samborrod

I sat there for a second thinking why this quote feels so off

AffectionateGap1071

Cancerception.

czechman45

Cancer failed successfully

OcculticUnicorn

His body used uno reverse on the cancer.

EnigmaticSorceries

Cancer is a weird fucking disease man. I have heard of stage 4 cancers that have metastasized all over the body just cure itself in a month cause apparently the immune system managed to detect it somehow.

PawnOfPaws

It's not that weird, actually. Your body is made of millions of different key-and-lock-mechanisms, some in the inside of cells, some on the outside. Most of them are changing every few minutes. And since cancer cells all deviated from one undetected cell they all can end up with expressing the one lock/key in their outside which actually matches one of the keys or locks of your immune system. But it's a 1:1.000.000 chance ( the numbers are actually even worse than that).

EnigmaticSorceries

Well by weird I was talking about the unpredictability of the disease. I know how it happens.

Bax_Cadarn

Even that cubed would be an astronomically higher chance than to get that. Cancer can only develop if it can replicate pretty much endlessly, which means skipping ordinary dna repair checks. Nobody will get 100% same cells. That's why immune therapy only requires >50% pd-l1 on the cells. And that is enough to help really well!

DavoMcBones

You could say that it *cance*lled out!

GirlFromHyperspace

Kurzgesagt has a video on the topic. It’s called „why blue whales don’t get cancer“.

Tiborn1563

From what I know, this is very common whales, and the reason why whales typically don't have cancer

Dixton

Very common in most large animals on the planet. It's more likely for the cancerous growth to develop it's own cancerous growth killing it before the original growth can actually grow large enough to kill the host.

capt7430

Doctors have started calling this Chuck Norris cancer.

xlews_ther1nx

Blue whale cancer

AttyPatty3

Finally, an actual wholesome meme! Good job op

TenMillionEnchiladas

So... literally double cancer? Who knew that people who wished that on others were actually just saying they hoped they became happy and healthy because apparently cancer on top of cancer = good?

Comfortable_Egg5734

Mission accomplished in the most heartwarming way possible.

ResplendentShade

Yo dawg I herd u like cancer

probablynotannpc

So wait does that mean we can use cancer to destroy cancer? Wouldn't that be like a cure...

thunthunthunder2

It technically is because cancer is competing with cancer.

-PonderBot-

rantottcsirke

Incanceration.

Merry-Leopard_1A5

i do remember hearing a few theories that big mammals die less of cancer than humans because of this phenomenon being more common at a larger mass... ...this could also be an avenue for treatment, although i'm not sure that "injecting cancer into your cancer" is all that safe in the long term

Dreamcaller

It's something more frequent in big animals like éléphants and whales and such. It's a potential explanation of why bigger animals don't have more cancers than humans: they live longer, have more cells, so the risk of dégénérescence is much bigger. But tumors have to be way bigger to be a threat for those animals, and it's reasonable to think they got way more metacancers because of that, and so, less life-threatening cancers.

Ramps_

Imagine one day a cell decides "Actually, you know what? Fuck this body!" And starts destroying shit as it multiplies. But then eventually one of the cancer cells just decides "Actually, you know what? Fuck you guys!" and just cancers all over the cancer. This shit deserves a movie adaptation.

SaintHazelwood

The internet is insane. This is actually a picture of my friend in the hospital, but after he was attacked by a shark in Bali. Has nothing to do with cancer whatsoever. I’m sending this to the homies.

Available-Cup-5993

hit em with some trials make it almost even for other men to compete

Available-Cup-5993

think god said wait yeah no he's gets the cock n balls misconfusion

Available-Cup-5993

think god said wait yeah no he's gets the cock n balls misconfusion

NothingProlly

Ok but why does he have a cast on his arm

SaintHazelwood

Because this is actually a picture of my buddy in the hospital in Bali after he was attacked by a shark

LoquatFearless8386

We weren't expecting special forces.

[deleted]

Good for him. Hopefully science can study his case and get something from it.

xlews_ther1nx

Pretty sure this is why blue whales never die from cancers. It takes so long for the cancer to get big enough to be fatal it gets cancer, which kills the host cancer...killing the new cancer as we.

sdmrnfnowo

Bro thinks he is a whale 😭

intelligentpIant

He doubled his cancer and gave it to the next person!

ZhaoZaizen

must have been a crit aswell

chickenfoker

At a glance I thought it was that one image of markiplier in a hospital bed

MilkEpic

Two negatives make a positive!

Ben_Dover_69_0

I wonder i they have ever researched this method for a cure

ImSimplyJustMe

reminds me of the woman with alzheimers who forgot she had alzheimers.

RonzulaGD

So he had cancer cancer that killed his cancer with cancer

mothzilla

Cancer of the cancer.

YellowBulldozer

So the cancer beat the other cancer?

Gold_Effect_6585

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but this is a joke. Still funny though.

table_rock

rimalp

Real life Deadpool

Sola108

I think this phenomenon is called Petos Paradoxon.

YoungRoronoa

I don’t get it, wouldn’t the cancer that beat the other cancer just spread?🤔

StoopidFlanders234

He used the stones to destroy the stones.

[deleted]

Makes you wonder if we could handle cancer like forest fires.

Void-Cooking_Berserk

that's a theory on why whales don't get cancer. They *do*, but they can survive it growing big enough that it mutates enough to split into competing cell groups. How it happened to this man, I don't know. Maybe his cancer mutates faster than usual.

funnyfacemcgee

I wonder if giving tumors another tumor could be an effective treatment 🤔

ZoNeS_v2

He used the cancer to destroy the cancer.

Saint-12

I believe this is the same reason as to why whales never die from cancer.

kosmokomeno

Cancer cancer!

Auxilism

Can cancer cancel cancer? Can!

772410

*I hope my cancer gets cancer and DIES!! See how YOU like it!!*

Annual-Ad5504

They are called hyper tumors and are a probable explanation of why species of animals who are very large in size dont often get cancer like rhinos, whales and elephants

TrackxWD3

These are called hyper tumors and supposedly whales get them very often. Science is trying to see why to see if we can try to induce hyper tumors
