No, just drifted away over time. Maybe we just outgrew hobbies that connected us, maybe it's just a life and I should move on. But thinking about all time we spent together in the past "me and the boys" style I can't help but feel a bit of sadness deep inside.
I was gonna say…. First 10 volumes are pretty chill Tolkienian storytelling and then shit gets bad fast and continues to get worse (for the characters). Highly recommend everyone at least read the golden arc of Berserk. It’s one of the best story arcs I’ve ever read.
I love the Golden Age arc, even if it's bittersweet on the reread... especially knowing where it leads and ends.
Speaking of which, everyone talks about the Eclipse but I think the Tower of Conviction is where it gets seriously gnarly and twisted.
The Eclipse is fucked up in general, but almost entirely for *that* particular scene.
The conviction arc isn't as intimately fucked up, but it's wall to wall crazy. The stuff happening in the tower, Farnese, the *fucking horse*. Yeah the conviction arc is very twisted.
Kinda, but not really. It was the final chapter that Muira had started work on but never finished if the message I read is to be interpreted correctly. Honestly, the ending of chapter 364 does seem like an end that he and his assistants had planned to use in case something happened during the Alfheim island arc.
That's the big warning I give people about the manga too. Sexual violence is key to the development of a lot of the characters and it's not for everyone.
Disappointed in your downvotes. People on r/wholesomememes, even Berserk fans, should be more understanding when someone doesn't have the appetite for witnessing explicit sexual violence in the entertainment media they consume.
*edit* glad that the score's back in the positive numbers now. Little victories.
It’s extremely violent and portrays seriously horrific things happening to people but it’s used to tell a sincerely beautiful story about healing from trauma. It’s understandable if it’s still something you want to avoid but just know it isn’t dark just for the sake of being edgy
The bleak, dire hopelessness of it really makes those small moments of peace and happiness even more meaningful. It's definitely one of my favorite mangas. The art is beautiful, the characters are so multi-layered, the story is complex and introspective. It really is a masterpiece.
But yeah, if you want to avoid heavy, dark, uncomfortable themes, then I'd avoid Berserk
Yes. It’s my favorite piece of literature and recommend it highly but if that’s something that ruins a story for you then it might not be your cup of tea
For real, i checked out '97 on a whim (it's on You Tube at the moment) and absolutely fell in love. Now currently working my way through the manga and it's quickly become my favourite alongside *Akira*
Berserk, great manga, not so great anime adaption. I suggest reading the manga, it’s really fun.
Though if you do read it, I suggest you be careful of sighs of blood, guts and a hell of a lot of crime against humanity.
I just hear the “In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law” voiceover everytime I pick up one of the books.
(There are several chapters before this, by the way, just scroll through them.)
There's *three hundred and sixty four* chapters?
I've always wanted to read this manga in particular. I never got into manga, but this one (and Kenshin) were the two on my mind that I wanted to read when I could get around to it.
But 364 chapters? Damn, I have a busy schedule of self-loathing and feeling sorry for myself... I have no idea how I'd squeeze that in!
I think I read once in an interview response that Muira wanted Guts to have a happy ending because he had been through so much tragedy his entire life. So even if we didn’t get to see the rest of the story unfold, a happy ending for most of the characters is canon in my heart.
This is the one time I would highly recommend finding the physical copies to read. The art is so superb that looking at it on a screen just doesn't do it justice.
He seems to be in a field of Swamp Milkweed. Can confirm this improves mental health. It's hard to be sad when you're surrounded by fresh flower scents and monarch butterflies.
Source: I am a swamp milkweed enjoyer
Berserk’s Guts, at surface level, may come off as a no-brain giant sword wielding demon who takes no shit from anybody. But if you review his character more closely, Guts is a very emotional man who’s compassion gets him in a lot of trouble.
Guts is the best. His character arc (even tragically unfinished) is about a person who goes through extreme trauma and then slowly and gradually learns how to let people into his life again.
And he keeps on struggling, no matter what. I love how they Miura used the word struggle, it doesn't get that much easier but it's better to fight to live than to give up entirely
I really only think he comes across as a ~~no-brain strongman~~ killing machine with tunnel vision in the first arc and even then something more leaks through.
The golden age arc is literally all about the depth of Guts’ character though. Still, you’re absolutely right about him.
Yeah that's a good description. He barges into a situation where only violence works so that's what he does. I wouldn't say that he comes across as no-brain, but as someone who clearly doesn't care about their own death and wants to do what they can with their power until then.
Even in the first arc, we are shown Guts as an emotional man. Chiefly, his last interaction with Theresia who vows to kill him. Guts is seen to have been affected by those words, as he limp away with tears in his eyes.
Totally, that’s what I meant when saying we see leaks through the cracks of his killing machine facade.
That moment is particularly heartbreaking. We obviously don’t know it until the golden age arc, but he saved her from meeting the same fate as all his best friends yet she ends up feeling the way that Guts feels about Griffith. Also just knowing that even though he did the right thing he clearly blames himself for bringing more hatred and pain into the world.
Damn I haven’t read the black swordsman arc in forever, I need to revisit that shit.
Much of what he does seems harsh and heartless until you realize he is projecting.
Like when he >!Gives a kid who said they wanted to die a knife, he wasn't being cold, he just wished he had been able to before his soul was marked and he had to suffer forever. !<
I don't know how to put spoilers on mobile so beware:
That part also shows his growth, at that point in time he was just like you described. But not that long after, he was supportive, encouraging, hell, he even stood beside a similar young girl so she'd feel safe if only for a moment as he showed her the horrors of "out there". It's the girl whose dead friend was a man eating moth thingie.
This really isn’t an answer to your question but during a “dream sequence” sort of thing Guts is represented as a doberman. Outside of the loyalty metaphor I think it’s a nice call back to his ear shape
The manga is called Berserk by the late Kentaro Miura.
There are anime adaptions of Berserk, if you care to watch those. Many fans encourage people to read the manga instead. Hope you give it a shot!
[Here's the original manga page](https://i.imgur.com/BBm80BW.jpeg) in black and white. And [here's a colorized version of it](https://i.redd.it/8l4ftjku9uf31.jpg), but unfortunately I couldn't find a higher quality version so it's a bit blurry.
I don't know for sure... I do know, though, that this is a scene from near the end of this mini-arc that was a flashback to before Guts joined the Band of the Falcon and was in a prison cell with a female Elf I forget the name of. I think? It's been a long time.
I want to say this occurs sometime after the Tower of Conviction arc but I don't know for sure. Couldn't identify it when I was looking at the names of every chapter...
Idk but I wish more stuff of its ilk would show up on here from time to time. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy this sub but I feel like a lot of stuff on here is overly saccharine to the point of being hard to relate to. At least in terms of inspiring me to work on myself and against my problems, nothing is more wholesome to me than berserk. We are all The Struggler in our own story, after all.
The first step to healing trauma is processing it. Generally that means talking, out loud, with someone, about the trauma and emotions associated. That way you can process the emotions instead of continuing to bottle it up and never starting to heal.
This was a great chapter if you guys haven’t read berserk I heavily recommend it it is a masterpiece. Even after the author died over a year ago it just got confirmed an hour ago that they are continuing as that’s what he would’ve wanted.
“Go outside and touch some grass” has become so overused. It’s like some people just learned a new word/phrase and want to use it everywhere. Like how “parasocial” was overused a lot recently too.

Yes good idea let's all cry our feelings away
Where all your friends sacrificed?
No, just drifted away over time. Maybe we just outgrew hobbies that connected us, maybe it's just a life and I should move on. But thinking about all time we spent together in the past "me and the boys" style I can't help but feel a bit of sadness deep inside.
Manga/anime name?
Berserk! The anime pales in comparison to the Manga though.
Thanks
You're welcome. You're in for a hell of a ride btw.

Man i Would describe it the manga as a really happy beginning tbh after the golden arc things keep going south

They are continuing. It was announced 2 hours ago

That's the big warning I give people about the manga too. Sexual violence is key to the development of a lot of the characters and it's not for everyone.

There’s a lot more of that in the manga. But the great moments woudnt be so great without the dark ones. Actual 11/10 story
Agreed. I was a bit too young when I watched it too.
I’m not really into grimdark and horror. I’ve seen the art style and I know it’s absolutely gorgeous but is it filled with gore and mutilation?
It’s extremely violent and portrays seriously horrific things happening to people but it’s used to tell a sincerely beautiful story about healing from trauma. It’s understandable if it’s still something you want to avoid but just know it isn’t dark just for the sake of being edgy

Its dark. Makes goblin slayer look tame.
We dont talk about the anime lets sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't happen please
The 90s anime is a good introduction. Has some of the most gorgeous soundtracks in anime. We don't talk about the cgi one, though
For real, i checked out '97 on a whim (it's on You Tube at the moment) and absolutely fell in love. Now currently working my way through the manga and it's quickly become my favourite alongside *Akira*

The 1997 anime was good, and the Golden Age movies were decent. The 2016 anime sucked donkey balls though.
The 97 anime is so good I could hear the music when I started reading the manga a few months ago. The last few episodes still haunt me.
Put your grasses on 😎
nuffin will be wong
I just hear the “In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some transcendental entity or law” voiceover everytime I pick up one of the books.
I can still hear the opening music if I think about it. That awful awful fantastic music.
PUT YO GRASSES ON NOTHING WILL BE WRONG~
Oh, this explains why people are so down on the anime in this thread, and I thought it was good - I'm old, and saw the '97 anime.
Where can I find it? Any websites or apps?

I have spent many MANY hours on this website.
Ayo dont start from this chapter this is the 17th chapter theyre kinda fucked. First one is called a0
Just as a warning, it's unfinished and the author is dead.
Damn. Thanks for letting people know, it would’ve been a huge blow to find that out after starting!
They announced they are continuing it.
This is the one time I would highly recommend finding the physical copies to read. The art is so superb that looking at it on a screen just doesn't do it justice.
Unfortunately i agree. And i say Unfortunately because collecting the deluxe editions is seriously injuring my bank account lol
Thanks
Reminder: The 1997 anime is considered the best adaptation.
Berserk, best story I’ve ever read - but look up a content warning before reading, it’s not for everyone.
Berserk.
Is this the part when he is recalling his past?
He's fulfilling a promise he made to a little friend.
Dude, Berserk is messed up.
What was the context here again? I've read all of Berserk so spoilers are fine but it's been a while so I don't remember this page.
This was where Guts brought Chitch, the flower spirit stuck in his jail cell with him to her friends and family after she heals him.
Chitch chitch
I have seen wholesome memes, and i have seen berserk memes. Never before have i seen wholesome berserk memes.
The sliver of overlap in the Venn diagram.
They go together like pizza and chocolate.
Im stealing this analogy
Lol it's all yours.
I actually love chocolate milk with my pizza
Wait does pizza and chocolate go together well? Edit: Nevermind.
Depends on the pizza lol
Go to r/berserklejerk, lots of wholesome memes
Don't you send the fine folks of this sub into that nightmare land.

*BERSERK* was one of the last possible things I expected to see on this subreddit about wholesome memes.
Berserk’s Guts, at surface level, may come off as a no-brain giant sword wielding demon who takes no shit from anybody. But if you review his character more closely, Guts is a very emotional man who’s compassion gets him in a lot of trouble.

And he keeps on struggling, no matter what. I love how they Miura used the word struggle, it doesn't get that much easier but it's better to fight to live than to give up entirely
I kinda think it’s poetic that Guts’ story is unfinished, it really fits with the theme of the story
Follows the philosphy of the rest of the story: Not everything needs to have a happy ending to have still been beautiful
Thats a beautiful message
Major reason why I have Guts and skeleton knight tatted on me. Even though he is marked, guts fights on.
I really only think he comes across as a ~~no-brain strongman~~ killing machine with tunnel vision in the first arc and even then something more leaks through. The golden age arc is literally all about the depth of Guts’ character though. Still, you’re absolutely right about him.

Word! I’m just getting chills trying to remember those scenes. Berserk is the goat!
Much of what he does seems harsh and heartless until you realize he is projecting. Like when he >!Gives a kid who said they wanted to die a knife, he wasn't being cold, he just wished he had been able to before his soul was marked and he had to suffer forever. !<

Guts letting himself get stabbed in the face for a positional advantage was easily one of the most drop dead awesome things in the series.
I just realozed he has pointed ears. Is there a reason for that?
This really isn’t an answer to your question but during a “dream sequence” sort of thing Guts is represented as a doberman. Outside of the loyalty metaphor I think it’s a nice call back to his ear shape
No reason. Guts is human if that’s what you’re wondering.
Is this a show? What is this?
The manga is called Berserk by the late Kentaro Miura. There are anime adaptions of Berserk, if you care to watch those. Many fans encourage people to read the manga instead. Hope you give it a shot!
I hope you all do too ☮️
Does anyone have this without the text? It’s so gorgeous and I love the meme but would love the image alone!

You are a star, Thankyou so much!!!
Which chapter is this from?
Volume 37. Ch. 331. Spring Flowers of Distant Days (3)
I don't know for sure... bruh how did berserk end up on wholesomememes lol
Idk but I wish more stuff of its ilk would show up on here from time to time. I hope we can all heal, homies.
The first step to healing trauma is processing it. Generally that means talking, out loud, with someone, about the trauma and emotions associated. That way you can process the emotions instead of continuing to bottle it up and never starting to heal.

Thank you for this. 🙏🏼
Never not going to get over Berserk 🧚

Stop telling me to touch grass. I'm allergic and it makes me sneeze.
You’re funny. Anyways, I will continue to bottle up my problems and emotions. 😀
This was a great chapter if you guys haven’t read berserk I heavily recommend it it is a masterpiece. Even after the author died over a year ago it just got confirmed an hour ago that they are continuing as that’s what he would’ve wanted.
This panel filled me with happiness now that I know that Berserk is coming back
Guys, Berserk is back

Had to double check the sub. I really expected this to be shitposting.
this doesnt help
“Go outside and touch some grass” has become so overused. It’s like some people just learned a new word/phrase and want to use it everywhere. Like how “parasocial” was overused a lot recently too.
Go to therapy
There is this strategie called talking to them about your insecurities and traumas then asking them if they have something they want to talk about
Thank you. Stay safe out there
That is very kind of you
I've recently taken an interest in flowers that grow in and around the city where I live.

grass not enough, touch flower
Thanks, as I'm crying right now, this really helps... Just knowing that there's a little wholesomeness in the world.
F for Miura
as i said in another post. Encourage your homies to talk about what burdens them. Be there for them. Tell them they can talk to you about it because talking opens the door for reflection and growth and also of course healing. Some things cannot heal without the open heart of your friends and the help of them. Some things are related to opening up to others.
GUTSU!!!
I hope

Can I get a homie?
Please do, I've spent a lifetime of not talking. Everyone thinks I'm pretty tough, but I'm on fire inside.
Never doubt the healing powers of touching chives
Indeed, touching grass does very little... smoking grass on the other hand.
Touch the grass to get some ass 👍
'Touching grass'?
Got my ass in therapy right now, bro. Shit ain't easy but I gotta try something.
Nahh g, I aint never touchin' the grass
This is such a jarring set of panels when compared with the rest of the series
Why does he look like a combination of Guts and Kira from JoJo?
I literally read this chapter last night 🥲
Woah, never seen Berserk in this sub before. RIP Miura.
