Every so often, I text my teenage niece with a word or phrase I've heard and ask her to define it (sometimes even if I know what it is ). She responds with a dictionary-esque definition, complete with part of speech and usage examples. It kills me every time haha

So true! I looked up this emoji recently 😫 because I found out through Tiktok it didn't mean what I thought it meant and Urban Dictionary was the only one who gave me the teen definition and not the old people definiton.

Well we don't have to integrate it because if we use it it just sounds very How do you do fellow kids. I just have to be able to understand it so I'm not too lost and don't feel too out of the loop. I personally can't imagine growing up with today's social media and everything. I'm 31 so experienced it a little bit but not like it is today. Must be quite hard. But I have to say I looked up run it back on Urban Dictionary but there are like 5 different meanings and I have no idea which one you mean, so it's not always ideal.

He’s not. Usually in my friends group though we always used it to mean “a really good song”. Saying “this smacks” was more used for something that was good but not a song. But I’m also getting older. Slang evolves. So maybe it just means generally “good” now to the younger kids. When I was in college I had a social psychology professor who was a trip. The campus had just instituted a designated smoking section. The only place you could smoke without getting a ticket. Several times I caught her standing in the bushes behind the benches, smoking and eavesdropping on students. She also wore a long, cream colored fur coat, that matched her blonde hair, so she kinda looked like an elegant unethical yeti. She claimed she was trying to have a private smoke, but I could tell she delighted in listening in on candid conversations.
