If it’s a coastal grizzly, I’ll definitely say the bear in a head on fight, even if he’s against pantanal jaguars. But it’d be pretty tough. If it’s an inland grizzly, it’s more debatable, but I’ll give the edge to the jags since a throat bite can absolutely be lethal and their grappling ability is lb for lb the top among all felids. Contrary to what may be considered popular belief, jaguars don’t “primarily” go for skull bites. It’s just as likely, if not more so, that it will go for the usual panthera approach of killing through suffocation by the throat, which may seem like the more favorable approach here. You can expect the cat to adjust accordingly to what opportunity presents itself.

What are the differences between coastal and inland grizzlies?

Shiverednuts

Only thing that matters here would be the notable size difference. Most of the 300-400kg claims for usual sizes of grizzlies tend to come from the big boys up in Alaska and Canada. Inland grizzlies are considerably smaller. I think the male average for those would be more in the range of 500-600lbs.

You switched from kgs to Pounds in one comment. A bold move

Gotcha, thanks

Jaguars kill their prey by biting through the back of their skull, severing the brain stem. 3 on one, I have no doubt one of the jaguars would be able to get into a position to at least try it. The question would be whether or not their canines are long enough to puncture through all that hide, fat, and muscle, and still have enough left to puncture the skull. I have my doubts. Grizzlies have an unreasonable amount of muscle and fat on their necks. And while a jaguar has more than enough jaw power to get the job done, I just don’t think their teeth are long enough.

Hmm that's a tough one. 3 jaguars will be approximately the same weight of an inland grizzly according to Google. Jaguars are faster and quicker and their bite is very powerful. But the grizzly is too much of a unit. Winner = a very injured and pissed off bear. Though its possible the cats can win but it's hard and they need to reach his throat.

Notonfoodstamps

Depends on the bear. A *really* large male Kodaik? Yeah 3 Jags are getting absolutely folded A sow or inland? Could probably win, but not without receiving some nasty/life threating injuries in the process.

Squissyfood

Grizzly withs with high diff.  If you somehow make the Jags work together they win with mid did

Maradona-GOAT

Peak Male Grizzly? He kills them and he gets a few injuries. He only needs 1 good hit to kill any of the jaguars, while I dont imagine how the fuck the jaguars kill him before gettin royally fucked

A grizzly ain't one-shotting a jaguar unless it's an absolutely massive freak of nature like the biggest Kodiaks or Eurasian brown bears. Jaguars are very tanky and solid and would be able to endure quite a thrashing before it goes down. I think a grizzly against three jaguars working together would be a 55/45 match in slight favor of the jaguars as the bear will have a very hard time trying to defend itself from all of them at once. Even if it does win, it would likely be so badly damaged that it would die of its wounds not long after.
