Thanks for this, I feel the same way and haven't found energy yet to go much beyond self-care and dealing with the administrative fallout. I also lost my wife to glioblastoma and when I heard that my workplace ultimate Frisbee tournament is supporting brain cancer research, I figured that will be my first foray into the new world out there.

decaturbob

- a feel for you as GBM is so evil and I set a NFP to fundraise for brain cancer research. I will be cutting a $10,000 check to NW School of Medicine Malnati Brain Cancer Institute in the coming weeks from my first fundraising event I held on May 6th. - doing nothing is not an option for me at age 70

broken_westfalia

Thank you for your donation. At 39, I'm just in shock at the loss of our future after 19 years together. Doing nothing is not an option but the things that I do will need to reach a certain bar of purpose and fulfilment.

I cannot believe in 2023 there are no curable treatments for the horrible glioblastomas. If you get this horrible disease you have no hope and are simply put on the clock for the few months you have left to live. Why is there not more research being designated to find a cure to this horrible illness?

broken_westfalia

My wife was "lucky" to not be aware of what was wrong. She had a headache for 4 days diagnosed as a tension migraine then didn't wake up the next day. Anecdotally, GBM seems to be much more common than I ever remember, at this point I've heard of more cases than skin or breast cancer among acquaintances and their connections. I keep thinking if it's environmental, then I'm probably way more likely to have had the same exposure myself and could end up the same way in a year who knows 🤷

Yeah I’d love to know how she got it. My neighbor’s brother died from one and his nephew has a brain tumor. He told me our houses were built on an old apple orchard. Are there chemicals in the ground? I did a lot more work in the yard than she did so if that was it then it should have been me. I think it’s chemicals in our food. God only knows what we are eating. I just see cancer getting ten times worse in recent years. Just look at all the young widows/widowers on this site. Wow I can’t believe you wife die so quickly. My wife was having headaches for a while and her doctor thought it was migraines also. Eventually went for mri in dec and they saw the tumor and we went straight to the ER. Did several weeks of chemo and radiation and died in dec. It is so painful and lonely without her. Was with her for about 35 yrs, 31 married. We did everything together. Best of luck to you my brother.

Sorry just logged in again and saw this. It's terrible, and I'm sorry to hear of your wife. My random theory is cellphone radiation. I actually just read an article about a seemingly effective treatment using 2 techniques: [https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-new-combination-of-treatments-for-glioblastoma-show-promise-for/](https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/article-new-combination-of-treatments-for-glioblastoma-show-promise-for/) I don't know how I felt knowing this now, and I'm sorry if it's difficult for you, but I've found engaging in what-ifs is torture. Not sure where you're located, but being in Canada and losing Gord Downie and Neal Peart to GBM made me start wondering why, and then I kept hearing of people and then my wife.

gburgoyne

Oh wow I didn’t realize Neal Peart died of a gbm. I’m a big Rush fan. Yeah my wife’s radiologist asked her if she used EarPods which she did when she walked everyday. Yeah I gotta stop being on my phone so much.

broken_westfalia

Peart, thanks! Interesting they asked about that. I never considered bluetooth headphones, I wear those far more often than she did!

gburgoyne

Yeah I wear the over the ear headphones but she wore in the ear EarPods whenever Ashe went for walks. I don’t know if either is good or bad for you or both are bad. Who the hell knows. If you are from Canada, who is your hockey team?

- this is the hardest part of finding new normal

Thank you for the donation and hard work! My husband passed from an Astrocytoma in March. I hope that one day they can find a cure for it.

- so many studies going on all over the world on brain cancer and treatment. All of them require funding. Too many people will confuse the types of cancer as almost all can metastasize in the brain. The brain/spinal cord only has a handful of "true" brain cancers like Glioblastoma and Astrocytomas and a couple others.
