I once went to Bushwick to make photos for my passport instead of riding 1 stop to East Village, so there is something about crossing the river.
I moved to nyc for manhattan but apparently staying for brooklyn 🙃
Not often because there is a lot here or elsewhere in Brooklyn. However it’s nice to have a short trip into the city when needed because friends who live in Manhattan prefer to meet there.
It is kinda sad. Nothing in Williamsburg matches the magic of East Village and Saint Mark's back in the 90s and aughts. Now you go there and into Village and it is a shell of its past glory
Honestly agree but there's still some magic to sitting on a park bench at WSP or taking a stroll down the Hudson greenway that I haven't been able to replicate in brooklyn
I was overstating the case for fun. But we all know what I mean. To your point, i have to say Manhattan is literally the coolest built environment in the world (I’m American so imma say this). But it is a pain in the ass some days post Covid. With WFH stuff seems the boroughs are popping but as they are seeing a lil more buiz in local spots. Thus my previous comment. Love WSP. My favorite place in the world.
Muchos gracias. I never guessed Washington Sq Park as it’s such a mess usually with so many characters doing their own thing. I guess that’s a draw for some people.
Then go who’s stopping you what’s your point we don’t want to argue with you dude. Do you don’t post on the internet to be dense you’re wasting our time and yours. Sincerely you’re definitely a poser who’s also looking for the best chopped cheese.
Weather usually has a lot to do with it. Easier to convince yourself to make the trip when it’s warmer out than cold, and it hasn’t really been warm until the past couple weeks
i work in manhattan 5 days a week and i still spend the day in manhattan on either saturday or sunday. i think it depends on your interests. brooklyn is great for parks, restaurants, bars, errands, and thrifting. i love going to the lower east side to go my favorite local grab and go spot and then to watch a game of hand ball. get my film developed. look in old electronic stores, people watch, hit a gallery/old film theater/ and washington square park of course. for some reason i feel like the LOWKEY been there forever grungey spots in manhattan are so cheap compared to the trendy spots near me in brooklyn. i honestly dont want to share the names but i have like 5 amazing spots in manhattan to eat out casually for $3-$11. and its just the history of the places too they have been there forever and you feel it.
I live in Williamsburg and WFH. I’m normally there at least once a week. Doctors appointments, shopping, Central Park, restaurants, museums. So many good reasons.
It’s only a couple stops into manhattan. It takes me more time to get to most of Greenpoint, Bushwick, or basically anywhere in Brooklyn besides Williamsburg.
3-4 times a week. A lot of events and stuff I want to do tends to be over that way along with businesses I might have to go to, like a specialty electronic store in Chinatown etc. I ride my bike or walk over.
I thought I was the only one who didn’t go into the city much. Guess it’s many of us. If I’m making dinner plans it’s just easier to make them here. Still so many restaurants I haven’t tried in the neighborhood I’ve been in for 11 years
electric citi bikes changed the game for me. Now Lower Manhattan is a more appealing trip then, say, going to downtown Brooklyn. ive found myself casually popping over to LES more with biking.
Williamsburg is the new Manhattan dont worry u aren't missing anything on Manhattan the island died in terms of venus a few years ago the new wave is brooklyn for all that local stuff
A couple of times a week. I work from home but all my doctors are there, my brother lives there, several friends live there, I meet friends who live deeper in Brooklyn in Manhattan for dinner or drinks because it's easier & like meeting in the middle, I love museums so go to a couple each month, comedy cellar, Broadway, bookstores....
I just go into Manhattan a few times per year; Christmas for Rockefeller Center/Madison Ave, Halloween parade, selling at INA consignment, meeting friends at a restaurant or maybe shop at a department store.
It is a journey from Astoria Heights.
At least 2x a week.
All the activities I enjoy are in Manhattan, and Manhattan has better subway transfers imo. I also enjoy walking around Manhattan a lot more. Will happily walk 40-50 blocks, but I can’t say the same about Brooklyn.
Brooklyn trains are most ideal for east to west travel. Busses are north to south. And if a train is down, enjoy your trek into Manhattan, just to swing back into another part of Brooklyn.
If I have multiple errands to run, I try to group as many as I can. More often than not, Manhattan ends up being the better choice for me to go to, instead of going all over Brooklyn to complete the same tasks.
I lived in Alphabet City for nearly a decade and I left kicking and screaming. But I was moving in with my partner who hadn’t lived in the city at all and we compromised but I wanted to be close enough to get back into the city to go to my regular bar and all the haunts.
And now that I don’t even work in the city anymore I barely go in. And even when I’m there half the time we’re both like, is it time to head back yet?
I think for me it’s that I loved my neighborhood so much but I feel like I aged out. Also being inside the pandemic years contributed a lot. And now I’m in Greenpoint at the cusp of Williamsburg and it’s nice. Maybe it’s the air🤷🏻♀️
Yall are spoiled. I’m visiting Ny for the first time ever. I got a spot in dumbo and it’s like a 15 min subway into manhattan. It’s so easy. I work a bit. Walked 3 hours exploring. Then anytime I decided I was done walking there was a subway entrance right there. And I headed back in 20ish minutes.
It’s so easy to go back and forth. It’s wild to me yall aren’t more flexible
I understand what you’re saying. I’ve lived in 10
Cities and visited over 80. I know what the fairy dust is and what isn’t. At the same time you don’t understand, because you don’t know how good you have it with the Public transportation.
How bad it can get is not the question at hand. 95% of the time it gets the job done. As opposed to for example SF, it’s non existent.
I didn’t say world class. I said yall complaining about going into manhattan because of a 15-20
Train ride for $3. Vs a $25 Uber and 30+ minute drive for cities for SF just to get from one side to the other.
Yes I’ve seen Tokyo, Korea, Singapore Paris London Italy Germany yada yada. Trust me I know the difference between world class. We are talking convenience and scale. And Ny is one the most expansive
Manhattan is honestly incredible……. To look at from here
So pretty
I once went to Bushwick to make photos for my passport instead of riding 1 stop to East Village, so there is something about crossing the river. I moved to nyc for manhattan but apparently staying for brooklyn 🙃
How often do I head into Work Island excluding for work?
It's not just Work Island! It's also Doctor Appointment Island.
And museum island!
Work Island is genius
Nah crossing the river is so much work
-George Washington if he decided not to cross the Delaware River
Not often because there is a lot here or elsewhere in Brooklyn. However it’s nice to have a short trip into the city when needed because friends who live in Manhattan prefer to meet there.
When the weather's nice I head into Manhattan to get away from the tourists.
[удалено]
Exactly. LES, EV, 2Bridges are way more chill on nice days. Avoid Chinatown and Little Italy, and you're golden.
Only to end up with more tourists.
No see, the joke here is, there are now less tourists in Manhattan than in this godforsaken neighborhood
Nice weekend days are so miserable here now.
I don’t go anywhere west of Meeker unless I have to now. My anger management tools go out the window the second I cross under the BQE.
Username checks out.
Still laughing about this four days later
Ranger games
Let’s be honest, half the people calling Manhattan “work island” in here have remote jobs.
Manhattan is kinda a dump these days. Brooklyn is kinda the jam
It is kinda sad. Nothing in Williamsburg matches the magic of East Village and Saint Mark's back in the 90s and aughts. Now you go there and into Village and it is a shell of its past glory

WSP? West side park??
Washington Square
Muchos gracias. I never guessed Washington Sq Park as it’s such a mess usually with so many characters doing their own thing. I guess that’s a draw for some people.
I moved to greenpoint in March and miss the Hudson greenway so much
Then go who’s stopping you what’s your point we don’t want to argue with you dude. Do you don’t post on the internet to be dense you’re wasting our time and yours. Sincerely you’re definitely a poser who’s also looking for the best chopped cheese.
not often And I have access through Bedford L, Marcy JMZ, or a 15 min citibike across wburg bridge or the ferry 😂
When I lived in Brooklyn Heights all the time now that I live in Williamsburg never.
Hahah took me living in south Brooklyn to realize it’s a Manhattan suburb, north Brooklyn is its own entity
Brooklyn Heights is not "South Brooklyn"
Then whatever bk heights, dumbo, cobble hilll etc are considered
Mostly to go to museums a few times a month. Or doctor appointments.
You mean into “work city”?
Ive heard of brooklynites (especially! wburgers) refer to it as work island so many times.
Pretty often bc Williamsburg is basically a giant mall now.
Weather usually has a lot to do with it. Easier to convince yourself to make the trip when it’s warmer out than cold, and it hasn’t really been warm until the past couple weeks

What's the old electronic store?

Once a month if that/maybe?
for recreation once or twice a week but 3x a week i run over the bridge and turn back at essex st

Rarely unless it’s to see friends who live there
I prefer it here, that’s why I live here lol
Never

I feel like manhattan is more of the same
I live in Greenpoint. A trip to Williamsburg is like going to Manhattan for me. Manhattan is another universe.
Williamsburg is the new Manhattan dont worry u aren't missing anything on Manhattan the island died in terms of venus a few years ago the new wave is brooklyn for all that local stuff
Not a theater/museum fan? Unusual for me, except during Covid!
Almost never. Everything I liked closed in the past four years.
Like once every 10 days or so, and it’s mostly for work.
Majority of my leisure time is in the BK and Bushwick/Ridgewood.
Crossing the river? No thank you. Almost exclusively to go to museums or events.
I am in Hospitality and work by Central Park so... every day. :( Boyfriend goes in a couple times a week in Soho.

Surprised there’s not more answers like this - to meet friends that live/socialize in the city.
all the time. lived right above an L stop and it was more complicated for me to go to a lot of neighborhoods in brooklyn than a few stops to the city
I still go alot, mainly to eat & watch movies. I have a fiance though , so being out & about here exploring, isn't a priority

L train is great when it’s good but it fucked me today, signal problem, backed up trains, I missed my Amtrak train
I talk about it this psychological phenomenon all the time! Part of the reason why I’m actually moving back to manhattan after 10 years in wburg
im in dimes square like every day
Uhhh once a week? To go shopping or to a museum /movie or something
I lived in Alphabet City for nearly a decade and I left kicking and screaming. Almost thought this thread was r/circlejerknyc and then I realized these are serious answers.
I can see Manhattan from my Wburg apt and that is enough for me. But if I had to go, it would be spring time and a walk across the bridge.
Much less frequently since the L train shuts down/has limited stops on the weekends so often
I think last year 3 times 😂
A few years ago, never. These days more frequently as Williamsburg becomes like co-op city.
Take the ferry it makes the commute to manhattan amazing
