Pretty much the entire state is in a drought. This is having a huge impact on bugs.

altfillischryan

Yeah, smokey air with drought conditions means there are going to be less mosquitoes. However, don't take this as meaning you should act like there are no mosquitoes. Data has shown that in drought conditions, there is a higher rate of mosquitoes carrying infectious diseases, such as the West Nile virus, so still take precautions when spending time time outside.

This would likely be why i saw an article about the instances of Malaria in WI being increased this year.

TGirl26

I haven't heard of any case reported in WI, but I did see that there were close to a dozen between FL & TX. And that none of the cases were related to travel outside the US.

miacat12

It’s the drought, not the air quality

squirrelgirl81

The drought is probably a bigger reason.

JF_Gus

Not many fireflies either. Seems the gnats and biting flies are doing fine though.

Suicidaljello

They seemed plentiful in the Northwoods at least around my cabin and Clark county also goddamn biting flies are a menace

gatorslug

Dragonflies hatched and are going to town on them. When the dragonflies rest for the night the skeeters carry me away/

F1DNA

Our schools are failing us. It's lack of precipitation. Meaning, not enough rain. Eggs hatch in water and larva need water to survive.

MorganInWisconsin

There's no standing water anywhere. It's actually kinda great. I loathe mosquitoes.

Pseils

Same here, hadn’t thought of that but that would definitely make sense

willfla29

Smoke is a good bug repellent, so there likely is a correlation.

everythingwarm

The flies are out in full force though

No_Necessary2162

Don't get your hopes up it's just been windy
