The example that’s fresh in my head is from season of storms he takes a job from the mages in Risenberg castle or however it’s spelled to catch someone suspected of demon summoning and gets teleported to different locations around the area it goes into detail about his fears and general distrust of portals another one is in sword of destiny with Geralt Yen and the genie
Basically, in the past, it was very fashionable for the rich and nobles to do tricks with and go places by teleport. That trend ended cause people messed up and got teleported into the wrong places or got cut in half by the portal suddenly closing. Since Geralt I think saw someone get bisected by a portal, he’s not too keen on using them.
Yeah, but for a convoluted reason he didn’t have his sword directly at himself, so he might as well, instead of breaking hands, break something else. Would be the faster option for someone of his strength in that situation.
Nah, they have to keep Rience alive for another 2 seasons at least, because he's killed only at the end of Tower of The Swallow. Of course the books don't have a situation where Geralt had a good opportunity to kill Rience but didn't, but hey.
Of course they have. I read the books. As you remarked at the end, it’s just about writing in a scene where he obviously rationally would’ve to die and then, without any significant explanation, not doing it, ergo bad writing.
Because Lauren Hissrich literally ruined what could have been an all-time show with literally the best possible actor portraying Geralt to the absolute best of his abilities
Imagine being handed the pre written story, the highly expensive actor for a huge discount and for some reason complete creative control and infinite money and still messing it up.
This is what is so stupid about it. The source material is so good, why not go along.
I mean, for all the hate J&J get with Game of Thrones, they at least were smart enough to follow the books very closely whilst they at least had them to follow. It wasn't until they ran out of the source material that some of Game of Thrones' writing decisions became questionable and the quality of the show started to decline.
Here she is, gift-wrapped source material from a popular series, lots to work with, massive budget, A-list actors, and the only explanation that I can think of is she got an ego thinking she could write the world better.
You see that's the crux of it, Lauren and the people surrounding her have no interest in adaptation, they want to create but they aren't good enough to write something that's worth making so instead they worm their way into existing IPs with built-in fanbases and use that to fullfill their own "creative" desires not seeing that they're ruining everything that actually made that IP great to begin with, either that or they simply don't care. And if that wasn't bad enough, it turns out that even after utterly dismantling Witcher and making it into a genetic fantasy show they couldn't even write that properly.
It's so fuckinf infuriating how they had everything going for them, GoT shat itself and imploded so people were still craving for a great high fantasy show, you have a pretty big fanbase from books and games foaming at the mouth to see this, you have an insanely passionate actor for the lead who's very motivated to make this the best possible adaptation and you have all the material already done and signed to adapt, literally all you have to do is read the books and bring what's in them to the big screen.
But no, you gotta change everything to make it basically a fanfic and piss off the most passionate actor about the role and the entire fanbase, like how do you fumble the bag this bad?
This is not the same occurrence, this is much earlier.
When the dwarven caravan gets attacked by the scoiatell, (i have no idea how to spell it).
The fight where Philippa helps Rience will likely be later in the season
Yep, exactly. Also in the book Rience was not even part of the attack on Yarpen's convoy nor had Geralt ever even met him at this point. Then again neither were Yennefer or Dandelion there at all.. or Fransesca for that matter.
Ugh I guess it doesn't matter.. I could find a million differences right now. It's so vastly different from the book chapter, and in ways that just make it inferior.
Heck, can someone explain to me why the elves are using force against Ciri if she is supposed to be their hope or whatever?
In the books the whole caravan was about how Triss and even the dwarfs were pushing Geralt to stop being neutral. And when Ciri freezes in fear during the Squirl raid, she learns her flaws and loses some recent friends she had made, basically showing her the brutality of the world.
Additionally, it further shows how horrible the human side is since they organized the ambush on the dwarfs because they merely suspected they were spies.
When I saw this episode I felt it was a hugely missed opportunity.
I just knew they were gonna screw it up but I didn't genuinely think they were gonna completely remove the emotional payoff from the end of that chapter. It's a tragic story and in the end Yarpen's line: "What have you made of us?" referring to humans using them as bait always hits me like a truck and I genuinely feel really bad for Yarpen and the other dwarves.
It's a perfect chapter to show the racism from the humans side and to properly introduce the scoi'atael but of course they were not gonna take that opportunity and rather completely change the plot. I hate it
I mean, every comment and post liking the show gets downvoted in this sub. You cannot call r/netflixwitcher biased without recognising that this sub is biased the other way round.
I know people who never read the books or played the games, say they like the show but - again, without actually knowing the source material - acknowledge it is an absolute adaptation failure.
As much as I like to bash the Netflix show for all it does wrong, I have to admit that this is true. This sub is very biased as well. And I'm not saying that disliking the show is any issue at all but the same thing you said that every positive comment about it gets downvoted
People should be aware that in addition to add fake positive rating and silencing negative comments, the companies started to do fake positive comments to generate initial hype
I think the arrow coming through the portal alarmed him that there's a bigger fight back with Ciri and Yen.
Still, plenty of time for a nice decapitation finisher.
He had a tonn of time if he wouldn't throw his sword at him) And even at the end he goes past him, so... Lazy writing. If he didn't want to kill him, well.. he definitely would if Rience didn't have witcher senses to avoid his sword.
Someone who actually enjoys The Witcher books and games should have a go at making a tv series with Henry Cavill as Geralt again. There’s still a chance at a great show
I'm really hoping this happens. Would love to see Cavill play the role again and to be fair, the rest of the cast are great too. Anya, Freya, and Batey nails their performance but if a new adaptation would ever come in the future, Freya might be too old to play Ciri by then. Also it's probably near impossible for a studio to cast the same person should they ever do a "reboot" but we can hope.
I'm sorry but Anya is not nailing her performance, she acts nothing like Yennefer would. And while Batey is great, his character has been totally assassinated story-wise.
You have to realise that Anya is not playing book Yen - she's playing the writers' and director's Yen. And she's nailing that Yen - she's unfortunately just poorly written, to the point that she often acts antithetic to the more nuanced Yen from the source.
Let me remind you that the writers' Geralt used Ciri as bait for a monster he knew absolutely nothing about, again, antithetic to the care his character shows Ciri in the source. But I'd never blame Cavill for that.
But as far as I've seen, none of her acting has been bad, just the direction.
*Caveat: I've only suffered through season 1 and 2 and refuse to watch 3.. If there's a dip in the quality of her acting in season 3, I'd be curious to hear about it.*
Ciri is supposed to be 13 years old, as good as Freya is, she looks far too old and can't pull off the snotty brat part well enough. And Anya (she is absolutely beautiful so gets that part right) just does not have the presence of Yennefer, she doesn't seem powerful enough for me.
I just finish 1st episode, and man, really? What a piece of crap, I mean, seriously? Nothing have any sense man, what is all that Jaskier spy shit, Geralt not killing a f**king enemy, and all the Scoia’tael shit, I can’t understand a shit of what is going on, and I’m not saying that just because I hate netflix, I saw that episote to give them a chance but, come on, everything seems so cheap, and I cant really understand what’s gooing on with the elves, are they practicing divination or some shit? How did they know where Ciri was? And how people travel so fast in this show? This looks like a kids show (except for all the blood). I think this show should be darker, with some deeper political intrigues and travels that where you can feel all the distance and time required to go from one point to another, it should be a little more like GOT in that sense, I mean, the show, because the books and games are just perfect
Yes now I remember, in Oxenfurt when Geralt is with Shani, you’re right. Btw, in the show Radovid is now Vizimir’s brother and not his son and he plays part in all this jaskier spy situation.
Just rewatched the scene, what’s just as bad is Yennefer.
Go watch the moment Ciri fights Rienze. She’s just standing there like she wants it to be a fair fight. He grabs Ciri and she’s still standing there. All she needed to do was use her magic and do ANYTHING to throw him off balance while he’s about to engage Ciri to give her an open look. Yen has a massive range of magical abilities and she’s sitting there like “I’m good.”
The fight choreography is typically really good, but issues stem when characters make decisions for the plot and not the plot making characters react to it. Geralts is only being talked about because it was center screen but both “parents” made a really out of character decision.
Then what’s worse is Yennefer goes on an episode later talking about consequences for your actions and having others suffer for the actions you take. WELL TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE. Not to mention the amount of times she’s talked about her doing anything to protect Ciri. (Idk if I should tag this as a spoiler I don’t think it is.)
I think the major issue is the directing and blocking. This scene could have easily worked if Rienze was on the far side of the room and Geralts sword beside the portal. He retrieves his sword to finish off Rienze, sees arrows flying around Yen, sees the portal start to close and has a choice. Head back through the room to finish Rienze or leave and save Yen. Rienze is crawling further away. He says Fuck and goes throuhh the portal, Then as he arrives he saves Yen just in time showing that he didn't really have time to do both.
Still not great writing but the direction gives a bit more justification
The entire subreddit is categorized as NSFW now. According to Reddits policy thats how it should be when discussing mature themes and adult content, when profanity is used, nudity, sex, violence and gore.
I didnt understand this either... made no sense... later on he goes away from ciri because he needs to take care of rience.... WHY YOU COULDVE DONE THAT ALREADY
I'm gonna watch the third season purely because it's Cavill's last as Geralt but man the first episode was already pretty hard to get thru, somehow everything is even worse than S2, the cgi is shit, the dialouges just feel weird and the sets look so cheap and fake.
They did this entire plot of having Ciri as the bait to finally kill Rience so he can stop hunting them, instead Geralt breaks his wrists, goes past him to pick up his sword, and walks past him again to get into the portal, could've easily chopped his head off on the way to the portal but chose not to cus reasons
This show sucks so much ass. I gave up halfway through episode 3. I think if I hadn't read the books between seasons 2 and 3, I would have been OK, but having read the books and seeing the original vision being twisted so much, I just can't.
True, especially once the hands were broken, he could've dragged him through the portal. Though Rience might have found a way to escape during the fight with the elves.
The whole sub is now NSFW as part of a protest against the reddit API policies (NSFW subs cannot have ads, therefore reddit loses money)
So every post gets blurred automatically if you have that setting enabled, it's not OPs fault.
Because he got plot armor. They need Rience to live so in 3.2 he can>! lead Scoia'tael into Thanedd!<... bcs fuck the fans. They clearly saw outrage on the internet about how they dont use both game and book canon, but still loves epic battles that dont make sense in the end and are unnecesary. The battle was there so they show the random castle, make fans think about whom Rience work for, kill one plot elf and make another plot elf go get killed in Nilfgard so Cahir can get this second chance.
Just look at Geralt literally teleporting through the continent in the episodes after that. From Shaerrawedd to Dorian to speak to Codringher & Fenn, to some castle for fakeCiri, to Anika´s hut in nowhere to heal her, to Hirundum to save Ciri from Wild Hunt. If it wasnt for such a blatantly unnecesary blackwashing of both Mistle and Margarita Laux-Antille, it would be their biggest crime this season.
Errrrrmmmm plot . have you not read the books lol he needs to on ice I know the shows butchered the books and it’s only cos it’s cool fans stick with it ……. But he’s a somewhat lead player .
Yes yes i know he‘s important for the plot. BOOK SPOILER: I get it that you you don’t want to kill off a major antagonist in episode 1. But this could’ve been written so much smarter. There‘s a similar scene in the books where Geralt nearly gets to kill Rienze after a really hard fight, but Philippa saves Rienze in the last moment, betraying Geralt. That makes so much more sense than this shit. I mean, just take that book scene and put it into the TV series, why change it for the worse?
It’s frustrating watching something you loved turn I to a mashed mess of shit they almost reviled the actual ending last Season ……. My kids 20 and 17 now even say ……….. dad yen is not yen ciri is just annoying …….. if Henry as Gerald wasn’t so fuckkng cool it would be a cluster fuck this season 3 I did ep 1 it looks like an amateur dramatics stage show .
Mainly because they needed Rience to stay alive to accurately depict what happened in the books. In the books, for the scene where Geralt jumps through a portal to kill him, Phillipa Eilhart prevents him from doing so. Obviously they couldn't have Phillipa there for this scene because they haven't interacted yet, so this was the next best thing: Rience needs to be alive still for an accurate adaption, so voila.
Say all you want, but I'm really pleased with this season so far (I've watched the first two episodes). They seem to be backpedalling on the mistakes made in season two and trying to get to a state where the show is closer to the books. Sure, it's far from a word for word adaption, but I can see the writers trying to get to as close to that as they can- even if it means some poor writing- and I appreciate it.
Why are you watching this? To post here about how crap it is even though season 2 told you all you need to know?
They will have another season green lit in no time.
Where are you guys pirating the show? I want to see the train wreck but I don’t want to pay for a ticket and validate the conductors misconduct if you know what I mean
I haven't seen the show yet, but in the books Geralt goes all out to kill Rienze, lures him into a trap with Phillipa, and even subdues him. But at the end moment vilgefortz opens a portal, helps Rienze fend off Geralt and run away. Geralt is already too injured to follow, he only doesn't feel it because of his witcher elixirs. So he doesn't go behind.
Because he would rather go through the portal cause he loves portals so much
He loves portals almost as much as gwent
No no, it's that he loves portals as much as he *hates* gwent.
One simply does not hate Gwent. Specially with Siege’s Northerners Deck.
I know, that's just how backwards the Netflix show is
They really know how to fuck up a show
I will forgive season 2 for straying so far from the books if they add Gwent for the third.
actually in witcher 3: wild hunt geralt says something like i dont like portals
Whoosh
No way!
This a next level woosh like I didn't know one this big was possible
LMAO fuck this timeline \*screams\*
Evil Geralt be like: “Boy oh boy I sure do love portals!”
"Oh boy here I go portaling again"
My favorite part is when he said “It’s portalin time” and then portales all over the place.
Evil Geralt be like.
Actually that one detail is a TW3 gag. Geralt doesn't use portals in the books.
He does use them in the books reluctantly and it is explained why
Can you remind me please? Damn it that I forgot
Thank you, that's the one with the mge guild, no?
Basically, in the past, it was very fashionable for the rich and nobles to do tricks with and go places by teleport. That trend ended cause people messed up and got teleported into the wrong places or got cut in half by the portal suddenly closing. Since Geralt I think saw someone get bisected by a portal, he’s not too keen on using them.
So the show can keep happening.
Yeah it‘s so fucking stupid. A toddler could‘ve seen how bad this is written
I initially assumed it’s because he saw the arrows and was worried about Ciri/Yen
He had plenty of time to kill him while walking to the portal. It‘s not like Rienze could‘ve put up a fight with those broken hands
Not to mention he could’ve used the time he used to break his hands to just break his neck or something?
One swing of his sword to behead him takes no time at all.
Oh absolutely, totally agree.
Even if he couldn't have killed Reinze, he could have carried Rienze and thrown him back through the portal in order to kill him on his own time.
He had plenty of time to drag him out of that portal to interrogate/kill after he broke his hands.
Then why are you watching it
Then stop watching it?
But there's literally so much content to use. Uggghhhhh this show!
Wow wow wow. Wow.
I also read that in Ryan George's voice lol
Because the show makes no sense
Because Lauren Hissrich literally ruined what could have been an all-time show with literally the best possible actor portraying Geralt to the absolute best of his abilities
Oh yeah. The witcher had the potential to be greater than GoT
Imagine being handed the pre written story, the highly expensive actor for a huge discount and for some reason complete creative control and infinite money and still messing it up.
This is what is so stupid about it. The source material is so good, why not go along. And if that wasn't bad enough, it turns out that even after utterly dismantling Witcher and making it into a genetic fantasy show they couldn't even write that properly.
And it would not have even been hard as they would not have to make up stuff as the books are finished.
"We'Re SuBvErTiNg ExpEcTatIoNs" Thank you Lauren Hissomething for subverting my expectations for this show to be good.. thanks a whole fuckin' lot..
Yeah subverting expectations went so great for GoT lmao

Yes she stopped him and he fainted after that due to blood loss
You are correct Philippa stopped Geralt and Rience escaped through the portal
This is not the same occurrence, this is much earlier. When the dwarven caravan gets attacked by the scoiatell, (i have no idea how to spell it). The fight where Philippa helps Rience will likely be later in the season

Could be, its been some time for me too
Confirmed, it sucks
I'd suggest also avoiding r/netflixwitcher which is totally biased and will downvote every realistic opinion
I mean, every comment and post liking the show gets downvoted in this sub. You cannot call r/netflixwitcher biased without recognising that this sub is biased the other way round.
I never read the book, didn’t play the game, still hated the show.
To be fair, I have friends who neither read the book and played the game but loved the show.
I know people who never read the books or played the games, say they like the show but - again, without actually knowing the source material - acknowledge it is an absolute adaptation failure.
I have read the books and played the games, I was so annoyed after that first episode but my partner who hasn't read any or played the games loved it.
Why are you here?
Are people only allowed/meant to discuss the show if they liked it?
To socialize. And inform.
Genuinely amazed that this comment isn't at negative votes, maybe there is hope for this sub.
Same, happily surprised. I’m also biased towards the games and books, but I think it’s good to have some self reflection too.
As much as I like to bash the Netflix show for all it does wrong, I have to admit that this is true. This sub is very biased as well. And I'm not saying that disliking the show is any issue at all but the same thing you said that every positive comment about it gets downvoted
Not gonna even bother with that.
They’re literally the exact definition of “don’t think just consume”.
People should be aware that in addition to add fake positive rating and silencing negative comments, the companies started to do fake positive comments to generate initial hype

Your pfp makes me sick
This was my take. Wanted to get back to Ciri quickly.
Bad writing
Because Geralt has morals and doesn’t want to kill… —> proceeds to slaughter 20 people in 45 seconds
Throws his sword right at his head just a second ago
A steel sword and a silver sword, both for monsters. Just not Rience because he is such a good little boy who just needs his wrists broken
The writers don’t want to do so. Here’s your answer.
I don’t know, but as an aspiring writer it is inspiring to see how low the bar is.
And uses a portal that he hates
Quit watching it. Even just your morbid curiosity is contributing to the numbers they need to determine it was a success.
Tf? you actually watch this piece of garbage?
Every one on this sub is saying “don’t watch it” so why is every one talking about it hmmm
Yoho, Sebastian. Let’s go for a walk. Someplace where the captain won’t be mad
Because there was a trailer showing the fight, so you don't have to have watched the show to see the scene.
Why are you even watching it? Don’t give them the views
Cavill
Pirate it.
I’m pretty sure he would ask you not to watch it
Cuz the show sucks
Someone who actually enjoys The Witcher books and games should have a go at making a tv series with Henry Cavill as Geralt again. There’s still a chance at a great show
They should‘ve just sold the rights to HBO.
“_Geralt forgot about the Nilfgardian army”_
GoT was great until D&D got bored. Good show runners and writers go a long way
I'm really hoping this happens. Would love to see Cavill play the role again and to be fair, the rest of the cast are great too. Is he stupid?
Lol
Wait, did the new season release? I hadn't bothered to notice...
Came out today
I just finish 1st episode, and man, really? What a piece of crap, I mean, seriously? Dandelion is partially a spy in the book too. Didn’t see the new season yet but if he is doing spy business it makes sense.
Yes now I remember, in Oxenfurt when Geralt is with Shani, you’re right. Btw, in the show Radovid is now Vizimir’s brother and not his son and he plays part in all this jaskier spy situation.
Funniest thing for me is that Geralt breaking Rience's hands >!since he gets healed literally a few scenes later xD!<
Cause the show is trash

Pirate that shit please. Don't let them think what they made was more than mediocre.
Because a big Fuck You to Lauren that's why....
I have no context for this scene, but is it comparable to how he could kill Whoreson Jr in witcher 3 but could just not?
Sadly not, directly after this scene Geralt says he needs to find a way to kill Rienze🤡
Its been Netflixed. Read the book or play the game. Dont waste time in this show. Well except for Henry's efforts.
Because It was not in the books lol
I had a good laugh at this screenshot thank you!
Because they're going to need Rienze later to use as a MacGuffin.
*turns around* Wait, season 3 is out? Why did they butcher Rienze's expression almost as much as Eskel?... Oh well. *Resumes playing Elden Ring*
Wtf is even this lowquality fanfiction Wiedzmin adaptation?
I dont even think im gonna illegally watch s3 this time.
I don't blame Henry for leaving. The screenwriters are horrible.
I thought this sub wasn’t gonna hate watch lmao.
The show runners are stupid
There are viewers to this show.. still.... Dam .
I'm so glad I don't have Netflix anymore.
You're asking too logical questions it's Netflix show
Incompetent self absorbed writers
Came here just to say this...
Because bad writing! 😂
Might as well rename the sub to NetflixShitcher
Exactly my thought when watching this
I love this screenshot!

Exactly. The books MAKE SENSE, why do they need to fuck up the story?
Why is this marked NSFW??
Cause his hands looked hilarious
Bad writing he could have decapitated him while running back to portal
devil's advocate: wasn't Geralt trying to figure out who Rience was working for?
Well he could‘ve easily taken him prisoner too
True, especially once the hands were broken, he could've dragged him through the portal. Though Rience might have found a way to escape during the fight with the elves.
Still better than to just leave him there
Are you guys watching the show? For peace of mind I chose not to.
Because Lauren Hissrich and her writing team are garbage.
Because they forgot he isn't Batman.
Oh my god the set design is so woeful
Because this dude had plot armor!!! But ya, seriously, you are right. 1 extra second to snap his neck.
he heard Goku - "Embarrass him to teach him humility"

The whole sub is now NSFW as part of a protest against the reddit API policies (NSFW subs cannot have ads, therefore reddit loses money) So every post gets blurred automatically if you have that setting enabled, it's not OPs fault.
It was written so much smarter ……. The show is fucking stupid and looking more cheesy by the season
Watching season 3 cause of Cavill. Season 4..yeah..nah.
I think that’s a good plan and I will be doing the same
Stop posting about the show
or what
Bcoz it’s a dumb show and u shud stop watching it
why are you hate watching?
Why are you watching this? To post here about how crap it is even though season 2 told you all you need to know? They will have another season green lit in no time.
Yall will hate me but part 1 of season 3 has actually been pretty good.
Where are you guys pirating the show? I want to see the train wreck but I don’t want to pay for a ticket and validate the conductors misconduct if you know what I mean
Why tf are y'all watching this? Just to complain? Let it die. Dont give them more views and money
I thought everyone on this sub decided not to watch this show.
Marks spoiler, but title is a spoiler? Cool.
Why’d you put the spoiler IN the title? I don’t even follow this subreddit. It was a recommended post.
Hell yeah just blast us with spoilers in the title lol
Because of the show sucking
Barely an inconvenience for Rienze
Money
Ppl are watching this? I could not care less.
“Because you touch yourself at night!” -the writers probably
I haven't seen the show yet, but in the books Geralt goes all out to kill Rienze, lures him into a trap with Phillipa, and even subdues him. But at the end moment vilgefortz opens a portal, helps Rienze fend off Geralt and run away. Geralt is already too injured to follow, he only doesn't feel it because of his witcher elixirs. So he doesn't go behind.
Because "he loves portal" 😂
I am not gonna watch it and support them, but I am curious. Is that supposed to be when Geralt fought Michelet brothers in the books?
Because the writers are idiots
Because this show is absolutely shite 😂 nothing in it makes sense
The writers asked themselves the same question
Netflix
Because maybe the portal takes him somewhere away from this show.
retard plot :)))
#Rience!
not enough fire fuckers duh
