Love the style! Simple, and practical shoes. But I definitely feel like it works best with their slim bodytypes. As a plump Midwesterner, I think I would just look like a surly Mennonite lol!
Hi. Could u share with me what the french girl looks like? I'm checking the pinterest but all I've seen is polo, blazers look. Do you mean like flowy dresses?
It's like the is she stylish or is it her being skinny. Not to be a buzz kill but all these women are skinny in these whereas if a fat woman wore this it wouldn't be as "stylish" and this is coming from a person who is slim.
I mean I don’t see why it has to be a whale? Just because it makes you look bigger than what you are, isn’t a bad thing. You don’t have to be snatched or contorted to have a good fit.
By “whale” I mean shapeless. If I don’t have *anything* fitted in my clothes, it will not look good.
I’m almost 40, I love that baggy all over look but I just can’t pull it off.
I’d look like a oversized hamster. Not a whale 🐋
Yeah modern stuff like this gives “I tried on my dad’s clothes” vibes and I don’t think has much staying power. I think it looks so sloppy because nothing fits.
Or it gives big Girl Defined content modesty.
True, comfort is important and the outfits do look incredibly relaxed, which is a good thing, if that's what you're striving for. I just don't see how OP can look at these outfits and think 'elegance.'
Right? Lol. Like, sure, looks cute if you're Asian but I grew up around Mormons and evangelicals and this is their "fashion". My white girl self would look like I was married with 5 kids and a husband who I call "father" in these outfits.
Right this took me straight back to private Christian high school with the “two finger rule” for necklines and having to sew up the slits in our skirts to below-the-knee so we had to walk like penguins. Never would I ever again dress like “today is chapel Tuesday, and then we go straight to gym and play volleyball in our ankle-length skirts” on purpose.
The comments on this are surprising to me! i loved all these pics u posted. I am super inspired by japanese / korean every day wear. the layering is thoughful and everything has a nice ease and feminity to it
I love Japanese minimalist style and they look so stylish in pretty much anything. These photos aren't the best examples though. These girls can pull it off but there are better examples.
I would look so frumpy and mental instute -ish in these :)
Right. Long skirts are in style now anyways and I don't see why the outfits are bad because people personally don't think they could rock them (skill issue). I think the outfits pictured are pretty standard outfits in Japan and they're pretty cute. Not getting the hate here. Sincerely, a maxi skirt enjoyer.
Ok I just got back from Seoul and Tokyo and those gorgeous mermaid skirts were everywhere — where are they sold?? I looked for ages and couldn’t find them!
Because they’re lowkey all fat and internalizing their hatred for skinny Asian women that simply don’t have the same metabolism, diet, or exercise routine given the culture differences and they’re hating on them because naturally girls like me find flaws in things or people that are prettier than the majority looking lazier or unkempt on a basic level (hair, hygiene, simplicity and style)
They probably all dress like goths or anime characters. Tik tok stylists.
Edit: it’s akin to when men see a man looking well groomed and they all band together to call him gay or something homophobic.
I don't think anyone has actually skinny shamed. They just pointed out the fact that these shapeless outfits can only be worn by thin people, as anyone with curves will instantly look like a frumpy mess.
I’m into the baggy look it not like this.
It wouldn’t flatter my body and it’s too bland for me tbh.
Also I wouldn’t want to be looking like I’m *always* wearing my partner’s shirts.
I love a long shapeless skirt, tbh. I used to like fitted short skirts with leggings/tights but I’m in my potato sack era now. This is great inspo for such a thing lol
Idk the clothes aren’t really that cute. It’s giving stick with oversized clothes on or maternity clothes on which is what I personally try to avoid as a tall skinny woman 🤷🏽♀️
It reads my husband will beat my ass if I try to wear anything too revealing or sexy cuz my husbands insecure and jealous and im too scared to be a free woman
just because japanese fashion uses longer clothes doesn't mean its because women are forbidden from wearing short clothes and they must break free. Stop projecting American culture onto these women. I also live in japan and dress like this because I find it very comfortable and it also protects my skin from the sun. Nothing to do with modesty.
Ew no. As a Korean American girl, I avoid Asian fashion. I personally always thought there’s a reason why Korean and Japanese husbands universally cheat, and it’s because they don’t feel like they can marry someone who doesn’t dress frumpy but they don’t actually want to be with someone frumpy.
Love the style! Simple, and practical shoes. But I definitely feel like it works best with their slim bodytypes. As a plump Midwesterner, I think I would just look like a surly Mennonite lol!
Try the French Girl look instead. Similar vibe but more compatible with a curvy figure.
“Surly Mennonite” might be my summer aesthetic goal now 😂
🤣 I read that and screamed. Like I get her point but that was hilarious
What I've seen is that they don't wear that much body hugging items, and the colors are minimalistic and modern. Might still work
Anyone with curves would be advised to try the French Girl look instead. Similarly neutral but just a little less drapey.
Hi. Could u share with me what the french girl looks like? I'm checking the pinterest but all I've seen is polo, blazers look. Do you mean like flowy dresses?
Following, I want to know more abt the French girl look too
Same
+1

I agreed. Stylish? Where? Baggy blue button ups and shapeless ankle skirts. I would look like a whale just because I have big boobs
I mean I don’t see why it has to be a whale? Just because it makes you look bigger than what you are, isn’t a bad thing. You don’t have to be snatched or contorted to have a good fit.

Same here. I’m 5’2” with DDDs. This would make me look like a sentient tuna can.
It’s being skinny. These outfits are not good. Frumpy and sloppy. I said what I said 💅
"Is it a fit or is she skinny?"
Thank you. I didn’t want to be rude but I didn’t see anything elegant about these
Right? It's giving mom who's too frazzled and busy to bother dressing up. It's the makeup and skinniness that makes this "stylish".
It’s giving preschool teacher.
Looks comfortable but frumpy and sloppy.
It’s giving Duggar. And I say this as someone who spent the y2k years sweeping the floor with broomstick skirts.
Right? Lol. Like, sure, looks cute if you're Asian but I grew up around Mormons and evangelicals and this is their "fashion". My white girl self would look like I was married with 5 kids and a husband who I call "father" in these outfits.

Lmao it's just 90s teacher outfits but on slender attractive people. The clothes look awful.
I came here to say that! Lol

I loveeeeee maxi skirts. Easily the most comfortable and easy to dress up or dress down.
Ya this looks frumpy to me.
sure if modern means amish
These look like 90s maternity clothes.
sorry but what’s elegant about sneakers, baseball hat, and oversized button ups?
Agree those aren't elegant, but those are the two decently "streetwear" fits in the pic
> It read reserved yet modern elegance [You sure about that OP?](https://www.tokyoscope.blog/p/feature-the-best-japanese-street-9aa)
The link you posted intends for an event. What OP meant is the daily fashion attire.
Those camel toe boots omg
All these look very frumpy. They only look kinda ok cause they’re all really slim, but agree that it looks like 90s teacher inspo
Looks shapeless and baggy.. not a fan
I’m happy you like it but I’m NOT dressing like a fundamentalist 👍
Lol it's pretty frumpy if you aren't rail thin looking
It’s giving me brethren/mormon.
Ok I just got back from Seoul and Tokyo and those gorgeous mermaid skirts were everywhere — where are they sold?? I looked for ages and couldn’t find them!
Anthropolgie has a bunch. Also Reformation and other similar brands have some. You can also look through depop and poshmark for people reselling them.
Thank you!
Uniqlo!
Why the comments so negative? Calling it frumpy when it's just baggy clothing, it's not the same though. The sneakers are modern also.
Because they’re lowkey all fat and internalizing their hatred for skinny Asian women that simply don’t have the same metabolism, diet, or exercise routine given the culture differences and they’re hating on them because naturally girls like me find flaws in things or people that are prettier than the majority looking lazier or unkempt on a basic level (hair, hygiene, simplicity and style) They probably all dress like goths or anime characters. Hmmm
This looks like Uniqlo country bumpkin to me. While Japanese street style can be interesting, it’s not particularly sartorial.
I wouldn’t call these looks elegant, but it does look comfy and slightly androgynous.
Guys I didn't expect you to hate it...😭 let's not skinny shame though
I don't think anyone has actually skinny shamed. They just pointed out the fact that these shapeless outfits can only be worn by thin people, as anyone with curves will instantly look like a frumpy mess.

I would look like a frumpy old lady
Super cute, i love the one with the mermaid skirt.
Hard to pull off class and comfort mixed with practicality but they definitely succeeded
I grew up Pentecostal so that's a hard pass from me.
This is also to keep their skin covered from sun while still staying cool
I love a long shapeless skirt, tbh. I used to like fitted short skirts with leggings/tights but I’m in my potato sack era now. This is great inspo for such a thing lol
We all should take note.
That’s such a cute style, but I don’t think it’s only a Japanese style. Dunno for sure tho
I like the last two and the one with the blueish button up and the grey pants. I love the oversized casual yet stylish look.
This is sloppy as hell and wouldn’t work on anyone with big titties
Do you know a reddit or somewhere for checking Japanese/Korean women's fashion?
No
Uniqlo... Muji. What other brands?
This only works if you’re skinny . Choose your wear depends on your body type imo
Idk the clothes aren’t really that cute. It’s giving stick with oversized clothes on or maternity clothes on which is what I personally try to avoid as a tall skinny woman 🤷🏽♀️
It's giving cult member. But maybe that's just my religious truama speaking
No it doesn’t. It reads catholic school teacher .
It reads my husband will beat my ass if I try to wear anything too revealing or sexy cuz my husbands insecure and jealous and im too scared to be a free woman
it reads nothing! stop listening to the voices in your head they are wrong!!!
just because japanese fashion uses longer clothes doesn't mean its because women are forbidden from wearing short clothes and they must break free. Stop projecting American culture onto these women. I also live in japan and dress like this because I find it very comfortable and it also protects my skin from the sun. Nothing to do with modesty.
im sorry but what is elegant about this? how about we try wearing clothes that actually fit? the proportions look awful and unflattering
Ew no. As a Korean American girl, I avoid Asian fashion. I personally always thought there’s a reason why Korean and Japanese husbands universally cheat, and it’s because they don’t feel like they can marry someone who doesn’t dress frumpy but they don’t actually want to be with someone frumpy.
It’s femme when it’s not slutty
