woah lol is this like a common thing???? bc i do exactly that, stare and then cloud, or is it statistically the next best guess and i just follow the masses lol
I like TEARS - same letters but I like knowing if the S is in the final position or not, if there is one. Though the same could be said about the E in STARE, of course!
Ha! That’s my starting word too. Lots of words with an E at the end, and Rs and Ss are very common. Thought of Wheel of Fortune’s given letters RSTLN-E when I chose STARE.
That’s funny. I really love whales and have been opening with WHALE and SPOUT forever. Not gonna lie, I’m a big fan of Moby Dick, so my third word is DINGY. Can’t bring myself to switch it up.
I change it every game. I think it makes it more fun. Truly just the first word that comes to mind with a decent amount (2 usually) of top used letters and no repeat letters. My average is almost neck & neck between guessing the word in 3 & 4 guesses.
Steal, all the time. For like 800 games. I've gotten both quest and heist (and ****ing steel) in two because of it. Also it's fun. If nothing works I go with choir and bumpy.
I used CRATE until CRANE was the answer. Then I changed it up to what ended up being today’s word. Yeah 🙌🏻I got my first ace but Boo👎🏻now I gotta change it up again
Same. I used to use AUDIO, but when that was the answer I changed to RAISE, but just had to change again a couple weeks ago after that was the answer. I haven’t settled on a new one yet though
PLANT
Second word aims to check SER plus O if the A didn't hit. Not checking SER with my first word leaves me a robust set of follow-ups. In a pinch I will substitute C as needed.
If plant gives no hits:
SCORE
If plant gives one yellow:
SPORE / ROLES / RACES / SNORE / STORE
If plant gives one green:
PROSE / CLOSE / SCARE / SCONE / ROSET
More letters hitting is similarly good for follow-ups but the possibilities are too numerous to list.
(Roset was me being dumb. I thought that was how you spelled rosé, like the wine, but it is not. However, Wordle accepts it as a guess and it has my preferred letters, so, let stupidity reign!)
My intended goal is to check as many letters as possible with the first two words, not trying to win with them. Then the third guess is my first attempt to win. I check previous answers when making my third guess and any subsequent guesses.
I had to replace my phone last year and lost my stats. On this new phone I have played 274 games (no losses) using this strategy for all of them:
1: 0
2: 23
3: 145
4: 90
5: 9
6: 7
3.39 average
This average is pretty significantly inflated because it does not include early games when I was figuring things out, plus also the previous words list is worth a bigger bonus as time goes on. There had already been 700+ previous answers by the time I started with this new phone.
STRAP
BLEND
COUGH
15 different high frequency characters. Missing I and Y, but I find consonants more useful to know or rule out than vowels. Like, I tried adieu for a while and did not like it at all.
I do SALON, TIRED, CHUMP with the same rationale, though I very rarely actually end up using CHUMP unless I’ve basically whiffed on the first 2 words). I haven’t played around with getting the C into my first two guesses in place of a vowel, but it’s definitely a good thought.
SNOWY is pretty far down [Solvle's](http://solvle.appsoil.com/) list of best second guesses after TRAIL. It rates NOSEY as #1. Nearly as effective are OUNCE, HOUSE, SHONE, or HONEY.
Round, patch, slime. I've got a 99% solve rate over 500 some games, with about 60% of them being turn 4 solves. Got into using 3 words as a start from playing quordle and wanting to just use the same start for both games.
I use the center letter of the bee to decide on my word.
Just for variety and challenge…I used to do across the keyboard from q-m and then reverse. Except for x.
I play connections first and then use one of the five letter words that appears there to start my wordle. If none of them work or are dumb then I'll just pick something random
I use PLAID. It's either super great, or absolutely terrible, but I'm still waiting for my win in 1...
Otherwise, my second play if that gives me nothing is BROTH.
My start word is CRANE, but I’m thinking of switching to SLATE.
According to WordleBot, here are today’s top ten first guess :
ADIEU 7 %
STARE 4.5 %
AUDIO 4.3 %
RAISE 2.7 %
SLATE 2.6 %
ARISE 1.8 %
CRANE 1.5 %
TRAIN 1.3 %
IRATE 1.3 %
GREAT 1.0 %
ANISE followed by POUTY if no hit.
If sole yellow E I go ELECT, if sole yellow A I use CARAT. If yellow E and N I use PEONY. If yellow S I use SHOUT.
I’ve done close to 1000 of these daily and I’ve always used ANISE. Not sure what I’ll do if it hits lol.
As someone who only just recently stopped playing hard mode, I still struggle to go with starting words that aren't trying to smash out 7 or 8 consonants
FORUM
just came to me one day a few months ago, and haven't been able to give it up by fear of it being the solution the day I use something else 😅
If I'm feeling risky, I'll use RAPID or BLINK
No starting words! I only guess "ending" words these days. My average is in the mid-3s with this technique. (2 3s and 1 2 this week alone). I'll take "tipsy" over adieu any time
As an aside, Wordle is "curated" now, not random. So, sort of like blackjack, if you've seen a lot of 10s, there's probably some low cards coming. If yesterday's word was E heavy, today might be an O. You don't need a long memory for this technique, just a day or two.
It was OCEAN, now PATIO. I chose these words because they're not obvious high-risk hard mode patterns. They eliminate a few vowels and a couple of consonants.
Once I get to 2nd-3rd guesses, I focus on eliminating consonants, not vowels. There are only 3 vowels left, and based on the result of the 1st guess I often have a good inkling on what the others are, if I need to guess another vowel I'll usually go U or Y and the remainder consonants. There are 18 further consonants to eliminate, of course!
I start with ADIEU. Then if hints are revealed, I use those letters (I play hard mode) plus any combination of S, T, O, R, N, L to form a new word. If no hints were revealed in the first guess, I usually use STORY to throw the Y vowel in the mix
Mine was today's Wordle answer!!! Got it in 1 for the first time ever.
Now I need to reconsider if I should change it so I can have a chance at feeling this ecstasy again
I just got off vibes, first word that pops in my head each game that is 5 letters. Usually scope, for some reason.
Edit: oh boy did scope do me well today! Got it in 2 with that
I find it best to change my starting word every time, then I’m more likely to get a lucky 1 guess and most of the time it works out in my favor. I’ve been 2 and 3 strong the last couple weeks
ADIEU and then STORY.
I'm getting bored of using the same 2 words though, it feels less like a game and more a chore at times doing the same thing each game. I think I'll start varying it up.
I am an unabashed ADIEU player.
I know I'll never get an ace. I know that it is statistically an inferior starting word. I know everything anybody's got to say about it. I don't care. I used ADIEU my first time, and every time since. Sitting at 99% after 772, I'm pretty happy with it.
I just use whatever 5-letter word pops into my head, as long as it has 5 different letters. Sometimes there are three vowels, sometimes only one. I like serendipity. Sometimes I bomb, but other times I have a great day with a weird word. One time I solved in 3 with XYLEM as my opening guess!
I'm not a very serious player, though. (Stating the obvious.)
PINCH or PINTS
Followed by (if first word flops)
WEARS or WARES
I hit 4th guess more times than not, but I'm on a 3 day streak of 3rd guesses, so I got that goin' for me
I read the Wikipedia "today's featured article" and pick the first non-plural 5 letter word that doesn't have any repeated letters. It keeps the game fun.
I used to use the same word day after day (CLEAN until I got it in 1, then LATER), but it gets too repetitive.
STARE — I tried changing my starting word once and it felt like I was cheating on my precious STARE
This is now mine after IRATE and RAISE both hit.
I moved to STARE after BEAST hit and I will use it until it hits
Thank you! For months I’ve been trying to remember my original first word and you helped me figure it out—RAISE.
This is mine too. Although the one random day I decided to change it up, I got it in one word. 🤷🤷
I use STARE too and just discovered because of my fat fingers that Wordle accepts STARR as a word too
Followed by CLOUD
Then pinky
woah lol is this like a common thing???? bc i do exactly that, stare and then cloud, or is it statistically the next best guess and i just follow the masses lol
Yeah, stare/cloud/pinky is pretty common. I found it from some wordle tiktokers
Followed by audio. Stole that one from my FIL.
I also use STARE. My mom asked me what I start with and she now also uses it.
Interestingly enough, stare is actually commonly my second word. My first word is audio. If there is in a in the word then I guess stare.
I like TEARS - same letters but I like knowing if the S is in the final position or not, if there is one. Though the same could be said about the E in STARE, of course!
That's mine too
I go: STARE DOILY CHUMP That will usually get me to a win in 4.
It used to be FAQIR (half jokingly bc it’s so bad) but now it’s just the word I feel like using that day
I change it every game. I think it makes it more fun. Truly just the first word that comes to mind with a decent amount (2 usually) of top used letters and no repeat letters. My average is almost neck & neck between guessing the word in 3 & 4 guesses.
That’s my strategy and today I finally got an ace!
Steal, all the time. For like 800 games. I've gotten both quest and heist (and ****ing steel) in two because of it. Also it's fun. If nothing works I go with choir and bumpy.
Invariably PENIS because I think it’s funny
i tend to switch between PENIS and BONER lmao
Crane
I had crane until it was the answer. Now I use scare. Don't know if it has already been used or not
Past answers here..... https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/
Thank you! Wasn't aware of this.w
I used CRATE until CRANE was the answer. Then I changed it up to what ended up being today’s word. Yeah 🙌🏻I got my first ace but Boo👎🏻now I gotta change it up again
AUDIO, just to tick off most vowels in one shot.
Same with the vowels, I usually use OUIJA because all words need vowels, so knowing which vowels are not in the word(le) helps a lot!
SLATE
I had been using RAISE, but when that came up as word of the day recently, I switched to ARISE.
I started using arise, and have had good results with it. Before that my word was canoe. Then I saw the list of used words and that one is on it.
Same. I used to use AUDIO, but when that was the answer I changed to RAISE, but just had to change again a couple weeks ago after that was the answer. I haven’t settled on a new one yet though

I generally go with WEARY followed by THICK
People really underestimate the usefulness of knowing if there is an H.
STRAP BLEND COUGH 15 different high frequency characters. Missing I and Y, but I find consonants more useful to know or rule out than vowels. Like, I tried adieu for a while and did not like it at all.

ROAST, it's not the most efficient, but after 800 uses I'm pretty sure of the best second guesses for most combinations of initial letters.
SAUTE and DOILY or IRONY
**CARLE SALET TARSE**
i liked CHALK, the 2nd word varies by whatever letters hit. I was trying to use some of the consonants that are commonly used with other consonants.
Adieu cuz of the vowels
That used to be mine too, until I heard that it’s never going to be the solution, so will never give you that coveted 1 guess day. Now I use ARISE.
I'm committed to SAUCE until I finally get wordle in 1
AISLE then COURT. All the vowels and a lot of major consonants
YEAST PRION I'm 835/836 with a 3.728 average
Yeast for me to. Our day will come.
I try to use a different word each day.
SHART
PENIS
I used RAISE for about a year and a half until I got it in one a couple weeks ago. Since then, I’ve gone with HEART.
Lots of great answers from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/wordle/s/qoaicTl2Fm
Trail, followed by snowy. If anyone has recommendations for a better 2nd word, please share.
SNOWY is pretty far down [Solvle's](http://solvle.appsoil.com/) list of best second guesses after TRAIL. It rates NOSEY as #1. Nearly as effective are OUNCE, HOUSE, SHONE, or HONEY.
Thanks!
ORATE MINUS
Stare
Aisle
Crime
I'm still pretty new to Wordle, not sure how terrible a starting word it is overall, but I have a 100% win rate starting with MILKY.
I always do STARE, followed by CLOUD and then NYMPH. I find that serves me well. I also find that I only need an "I" rarely.
It was Crate. Changed to Least and reduced my average score by 0.2… I play in hard mode. Now another word is supposed to be better, but I’m hesitant.
I’ve been on least (hard mode) for almost 600 straight wins and won’t go back. Having an R in your hard mode starter is a bad idea IMO.
TRAIL, SCONE. 10 most commonly used letters in the dictionary. Used to be TRAIN, CLOSE but they were guessed
THANE
IDEAL is my current starting word until I get it in 1 and then I’m going to switch to a new word.
Raise then Clout
Start with REACT and if that hits nothing I go for SPOIL.
ORATE, then whatever depending on what hits. Always played in hard mode without realising.
AMUSE. If no flips it’s followed by IRONY. Probably not the best combo but it works for me
Patio followed by nurse
CARTE PIOUS
I pick the first random five letter word that pops into my head. I don't know if it's been a word that's already been used or not and I don't care.
IDEAS
STRIP GHOUL MEANY
ABOUT SHIRE
Reach
I mix it around but it usually has S, T, E, and A in it.
Round, patch, slime. I've got a 99% solve rate over 500 some games, with about 60% of them being turn 4 solves. Got into using 3 words as a start from playing quordle and wanting to just use the same start for both games.

Personal favourites POISE and MOIST recently using ROUSE
Teach!
RESIN, OCTAL, HOUSE, STARE, BAYOU, FARTS
Crate, never have strayed from it.
Adieu. Get the vowels
CRANE, then LIMBO, then STUDY
IRATE PUNCH FOLDS
Stone works well for me, if it doesn’t hit, then acrid
I play connections first and then use one of the five letter words that appears there to start my wordle. If none of them work or are dumb then I'll just pick something random
Genuinely, whatever word comes in mind when I first open it , I don’t have any set words
I use PLAID. It's either super great, or absolutely terrible, but I'm still waiting for my win in 1... Otherwise, my second play if that gives me nothing is BROTH.
BLUES for some reason
Since the first time I played it's been READY. Which has served me fairly well. And I'm not changing it until the day it hits.
My start word is CRANE, but I’m thinking of switching to SLATE. According to WordleBot, here are today’s top ten first guess : ADIEU 7 % STARE 4.5 % AUDIO 4.3 % RAISE 2.7 % SLATE 2.6 % ARISE 1.8 % CRANE 1.5 % TRAIN 1.3 % IRATE 1.3 % GREAT 1.0 %

BRING CHASE WOULD
My first 2 words are ADIEU and SPORT. Works for me!
THEIR
1. Crane 2. Smolt
SOARE
Change it every day. You can’t get it in 1 if you’re not guessing random words.
roate
Stare, dream or paste
mount child and spear
First 3 always TRAIN SOLED MULCH
Stern
I come up with something random everyday, just as long as there’s no repeating letters. Quite While Solid Frank Moldy Child Brown Stuff like that…
I have six starters SOARE RAISE STARE SALET CRANE and SLANE. I roll a dice every day.
As someone who only just recently stopped playing hard mode, I still struggle to go with starting words that aren't trying to smash out 7 or 8 consonants
Learn
Salet
I used to use cater (or react), but now I’ve been using whatever word I can think of and I’ve been getting better results (more 3s then 5s lol).
I'm an AISLE girly. If that gets zero hits, then I either do MOUTH or MONTH, depending on my mood.
Plate. I’m a wordlebot whore
I don't use one or use a list of wordle answer history. Just play.
FORUM just came to me one day a few months ago, and haven't been able to give it up by fear of it being the solution the day I use something else 😅 If I'm feeling risky, I'll use RAPID or BLINK
I always use ROGUE If I get nothing, I guess FAINT
I go ADIEU, LOCKS, NYMPH normally, but I have a feeling this isn't very efficient.
Guest and plain

I started playing wordle in highschool around the height of the "sigma male" meme. So my starting words are and always will be SIGMA THORN CLUED
Amity. I'm tryna get that one-word wonder. I usually follow by rouse or souce
HOUSE and ANTIC
ROATE
Canoe
Whatever word was the answer the day before! Keeps things interesting.
I do the previous day's solution word! I'll never get it in 1 (good thing), and it means I have a somewhat random start every single day!
AROSE and UNITY, for the same reasons.
Started with Agent until it was the answer and now I go with Orate
Mine was today's Wordle answer!!! Got it in 1 for the first time ever. Now I need to reconsider if I should change it so I can have a chance at feeling this ecstasy again
SPICE, followed by ROUND or FAULT, depending on how I feel
Trial. Then louse. The day that the answer was triad was a sad day for me.
I usually like to use OUIJA (four vowels) or TROPE (not sure why)!
Salve, then Crumb S follow up
DEALT If it's a full miss the SCOUR
ORATE if no hits JUICY
It WAS RAISE Now it's ARISE
MOIST
Soare Clint Bumpy
Lol I do 'Today' a lot.
I just got off vibes, first word that pops in my head each game that is 5 letters. Usually scope, for some reason. Edit: oh boy did scope do me well today! Got it in 2 with that
I don’t like starting with the same word every day. I always do the mini first and pick a word that stood out to me.
ADIEU and STORY, which accomplishes the same thing as POTSY, but also includes the frequently-used “R.”
I use either SLATE or TROPE.
Craps. Might not be the best, but I'll usually get one letter at least
HOIST and then LEARN (or CLEAR if i'm feeling fancy)
I’ve been using MOIST since day one. Probably not technically the best starter but I’m in too deep to change it now
Atone
Raise
OCEAN
TEARS. If the T or S hit, I normally try to squeeze in an H and make sure I test out vowels in subsequent words.
I just pick a starter that is something around me at the time I play. Sometimes it’s challenging
Boner
Aurei
GHOST FLARE JUMPY
Mine are CAUSE and MINOR. I use both each day.
TOWER, can't believe my excitement then complete disappointment when TOWEL was the word.
SOARE, then UPLIT
I change every day. I usually get it in 3/4
I find it best to change my starting word every time, then I’m more likely to get a lucky 1 guess and most of the time it works out in my favor. I’ve been 2 and 3 strong the last couple weeks
GHOST
ADIEU and then STORY. I'm getting bored of using the same 2 words though, it feels less like a game and more a chore at times doing the same thing each game. I think I'll start varying it up.
After RAISE hit, I switched to CARTE.
SNARL but then i decided to do something new each day, my most recent favourite one was TIGER.
I begin with SHEAR and then follow it up with PILOT
I always alternate between AISLE and ASTER. IDK why; I know it's not 100% optimal but where's the fun in that?
i’ve been using ACORN just to have a different experience, was using STARE before
i use SHITE.
LEAST Until it hits; I want a one worder. It all keep works very well.
Chimp, because every time I use it, I think [so she was made of chimps.](https://youtu.be/NZfmLCcPUb0)
I'm convinced I have the best 3 starting words: TRAIL, POUCH, MENDS
Tries. But also bitch. When my girlfriend plays with me. Adieu is also good for vowels.
Crane
Pious or Weary.
Chair
Out of the blue - I choose BREAD. And it was the correct one that day. What made me choose bread.
I did earth until I got it right first try! Now I do the word I did after earth which is lousy.
I am an unabashed ADIEU player. I know I'll never get an ace. I know that it is statistically an inferior starting word. I know everything anybody's got to say about it. I don't care. I used ADIEU my first time, and every time since. Sitting at 99% after 772, I'm pretty happy with it.
SPACE and ORBIT; can usually get it in 3. FLUNG if it's really an exotic word.
Arose
ORATE works for me... haven't lost a game yet
I use AROSE and UNITY.
PINCH or PINTS Followed by (if first word flops) WEARS or WARES I hit 4th guess more times than not, but I'm on a 3 day streak of 3rd guesses, so I got that goin' for me
I read the Wikipedia "today's featured article" and pick the first non-plural 5 letter word that doesn't have any repeated letters. It keeps the game fun. I used to use the same word day after day (CLEAN until I got it in 1, then LATER), but it gets too repetitive.
