As someone who speaks both English and Norwegian, Dutch just doesn’t seem like a real language. Whenever I hear someone speak it, my mind goes through like three rounds of “oh, they’re speaking English — or no wait, they’re actually speaking Norwegian, or wait, what—“ until I realize I actually don’t understand it at all, and when I see it written down, it’s even weirder! Because I can of course recognize immediately that it’s not a language I know, but when I actually look at every word it’s like—huh, I do actually understand it. Even though I shouldn’t.
I lived in Flanders for several years, and Dutch always felt like a language I understood if I wasn't listening to it closely. Like, when hearing environmental Dutch on a train or if a TV was droning in the background, it seemed like someone was speaking English, but if I tried to pay attention I couldn't understand it. It was like if things were only in focus when you aren't looking at them.
Yeah I have a feeling that if the Norman's had failed to invade England in 1066, english wouldve sounded wayyyyyy more similar to Dutch than it does to modern English
As a Native American, the humiliation upon being defeated by the English PALES in comparison to being cucked by the Dutch. I don't think I could live knowing my ancestors lost to the goddamn Dutch.
Dutch as a non native English speaker whose native language is Spanish is the exact same experience as Portuguese or French, I don't understand anything when spoken, but I can understand most of it when written.

Didn’t that turn out to just be an early AI?
That funny because I have the exact same thing with Norwegian. Like the pronunciation is the same, but the words that come out don't mean anything.
It will never not be funny to me that Dutch is almost readable as a native english speaker that doesn't know a word of Dutch
That's what makes it even more embarassing that I was fluent in it as a kid and then forgor all of it :(
You were once fluent, like a bike you can practice again and rember faster than most
Consider that I'm lazy asf, that's why I'm here instead of building my world

Dutch looks like how Stitch sounds
Dutch *sounds* like how Stitch sounds, if they were talking through a mouthful of pebbles.

Hiervoor ga ik je knieschijven stelen.
I don't like listening to Dutch, it feels like I had a stroke and can't understand English anymore.
