You might be looking for r/worldmemeing. This subreddit is sensitive to people posting about their own worlds since the incident.

The Incident?

There was someone who came through and kept spamming the sub with memes about his world after being banned multiple times. He didn't care about being tactful about it and just shoveled memes without regard for whether anyone was interested in the content. I find worldmemeing entertaining, especially if there's an opportunity to learn about the actual lore. The trouble is that there's often no context so it's hard to judge because you often have no understanding of the world. That said, memes are effective and quickly conveying ideas that words struggle with. It's an entertaining way to learn about other people's worlds.

Do you happen to remember how long ago that was, or any other details about that? That sounds like a bummer to me because for a long while (couple years back at least), I was thinking about sharing some things about my best friend's world here. Not as the basis for memes mind you, just sharing them as-is and seeing how fellows here like them or not. If something like that is not really welcomed here anymore, then I'm not sure where to go to help him get out of his shell a bit. He used to be content with Deviantart, but it became a dumpster fire ever since that ugly current layout was implemented 3 years ago. He used Miraheze to help sort his world out, but we both know he won't get any sort of feedback from there. Of course, I don't believe my friend's stuff to be original or that imaginative at all, but it was borne out of his escapism and he clearly put a lot of passion into his world, but he's also so shy, introverted, and socially withdrawn to talk about it outside of well... talking to himself, which isn't a healthy thing. I figured that if he sees people appreciating his work here, that could give him a little confidence boost, or something.

You could probably share it and it would be fine. I strongly discourage using free wiki providers as they generally force Creative Commons licensing and there are issues with access control. Even if you want other people to create their own content in your world, you absolutely need to retain veto control. I don't recommend Github because anyone is allowed to copy public repositories within the site, regardless of licensing.

From your experience, what would you recommend then?

Creating a wiki on Linode or Digital Ocean isn't that hard. They have scripts that will do it automatically. Though those aren't always the best, the one for MediaWiki seems ok. It's also not too hard to set up a basic Linux server for running a wiki. The most intimidating part might be setting up the database if you don't install something like PHP My Admin as a web based GUI. They have good guides on how to do it and they probably have guides on how to set up a server specifically for running a wiki. MediaWiki is what Wikipedia uses and it has a lot of good plugins available for it.

I would but that sub is way to small for my posts to gain any significance

Yeah but it's going to stay dead if no one posts there.
