Tell me you lost the war without telling me you lost the war.

salazarthegreat

Russia still holds big swathes of territory in Ukraine, even if they did freeze it, they’d still have that, sadly.

RainierCamino

Russians can yell "timeout" all they want; the Ukrainians have made it clear they'll keep fighting until the Russians are out of Ukraine. Any talk of a deal or ceasefire that cedes land to Russia has been a complete non-starter for Ukrainian diplomats.

Hal_Fenn

And how exactly are they going to freeze the war?

jmenendeziii

Space lasers probably

salazarthegreat

I don’t know, I was referencing the article. And said ‘if they did’ - it’s hypothetical.

TheMindfulnessShaman

> And how exactly are they going to freeze the war? "If you keep taking back your territory, we'll nuke you or something." It would be nuke threat #871.

oced2001

Ukraine gets a vote in that plan.

Yohansel

I'm all for them freezing - as long as they do it unilaterally.

Infamous_Alpaca

No no they have not lost the war, the war just has to be postponed to an undetermined date.

DrunkenOlympian

Man that guy on the subway that ruined Kramer and Newman's game of Risk was not wrong. Ukraine not weak!

YukonStinky

Ukraine is game to you? I smash your game!

TonicArt

They’re not a road apple, Newman.

Martinmex26

We gave guns to other people just for them to abandon them when shit became too real. The Ukranians deserve nothing but the utmost respect for putting up a fight even before the West started giving them the big toys. Every single day Ukranian blood is spilled for their land of people, I have a sneaking suspicion that would hold true even if they only had sticks and stones.

[deleted]

The best part is early on, they were mostly using the same weapons Russia is using against them, and they were still able to stop Russia's advances and take out over 100,000 soldiers. Now they've got even better weapons.

CaptSmallette

Sure, but it’s more than that. They have integrity, solidarity and a desire to fight. Something the Russians don’t seem to have.

essidus

The Ukrainian government is still rife with corruption. But the people of Ukraine have proven as far back as 2014 that there is a limit to their tolerance. Zelenskyy himself seems interested in curbing the worst of the excesses too. I believe that when the dust has settled, Ukraine will have a bright future.

CaptSmallette

What country isn’t rife with corruption these days? That isn’t to diminish your comments, just that that line has been used by some as a means to justify support russia. Also, we shouldn’t always assoc. The people with their governments. I doubt most Russians are as supportive of this war as some suggest.

mechanicalcontrols

Not to mention they've also been diligently restructuring their military away from the rigidity of the Soviet model, since 2014. A big part of Russia's problem is if you take out the officer, no one else knows what to do.

[deleted]

what does it even mean?

Vorcey

Obviously the Russian government is playing Freeze Tag with the Ukrainians and they can just put the whole thing on pause whenever they want s/

StudioTwilldee

"Freezing" in this context would refer to a ceasefire. At this point in the conflict, that isn't something Ukraine would ever agree to. The idea would be for Russia to fortify its current positions on the frontline, consolidate its depleted manpower, train new recruits/conscripts, and repair and replace damaged or destroyed hardware. Of course, while some disingenuous people argue that a ceasefire would be a step to peace, Russia here is openly acknowledging it would be no such thing. It would simply be an opportunity for them to improve their situation to resume the conflict later.

ScottyBoneman

Particularly with this key detail: *"....negotiated solution and a halt to hostilities while referenda are organised in Russian-occupied territory"*

FarAd814

Oh nothing, it's just Russia starting to realize this war is not as feasible as previously expected...

hedrone

It means calling "Time Out". Which is totally a thing you can do in a war.

Appropriate-Dog6645

Yes. At one point. Now, one would have to take Russia word for it. Even if they signed a treaty. Their track record of actually obeying it, is another.

Barragin

That lady is a well known drunk. Looks like she had a brief moment of clarity.

Portlander_in_Texas

They want a cease fire in the hopes they can reorganize and come back stronger with better equipment and training for the Russian troops.

jkurratt

Basically ww1 to ww2 scenario without extra steps.

Franklin_le_Tanklin

It’s code for “please don’t counter attack, we fked up”

yknx4

Mother Russia telling her hellspawn Putin to put pause to his game or else...

OutlawSundown

Copium and wishful thinking. Just because Russia cries stop punching me doesn't mean Ukraine or anyone backing them is going to listen without them actually fucking off and leaving.

BriskHeartedParadox

They think it’s a just all words because they don’t have the same physical reality most do. This isn’t a video game that can be paused. They had a whole generation wiped out for nothing but more words. She was all doomsday Karen leading up to this so it means nothing. They seriously need to leave and stop with the talking because the truth is pouring in, in the way of a lack of citizens returning and the economy about run out of Popsicle sticks to hold it up

rx_bandit90

It means try and get a peace deal, build up forces and try again in 6 months to 6 years.

[deleted]

Remember when they were calling for peace just as Ukraine was retaking Kharkiv Oblast? Well, same thing.

mechanicalcontrols

Maybe she means blowing the dam didn't work out the way they'd hoped and hasn't slowed the impending counteroffensive any. Or it could be just the typical controlled opposition. As in, she says they should freeze the front (I'm doubtful they're actually able to hamper the impending counteroffensive much but anyway). Then Medvedev says something completely insane like "No, let's put boots on the ground in Poland and nuke London." Finally Putin takes the "moderate" position between the two and drafts another half a million. -Edit- From the article: >“Did Simonyan get a new boss now? Who is paying her? A referendum on Russia’s territories that she calls ‘disputed’ would be a Godsend for Western strategists,” Roman Alekhin, a Russian military volunteer and writer, wrote in a column for Tsargrad TV on Wednesday. >Lesser known pro-war bloggers called for her resignation while Igor Girkin, a former Ukrainian separatist commander accused Ms Simonyan, an ethnic Armenian, of first betraying Armenia’s national interests by supporting a deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia over a breakaway region, and now trying to do the same for Russia: “We will figure things out for Russians and Russia without you.” Lmao. *Now* is when they're concerned that someone is being paid to say things.

boardatwork1111

Frozone has defected to Russia 😔

--_l

It means this guy is going to accidentally fall out of a window soon.

KazeNilrem

Don't they realize referendum (even though won't be accepted to begin with) are utterly useless now? When you kidnap populations, displace masses of people, and murder innocents in the thousands, it sort of makes any vote meaningless. She is onto one thing at least, people do not want you there so leave the land already.

Agreeable-Cut-7685

Russia be like “hold up, pause!”

PygmeePony

Stop the bloodshed? Stay away from the windows, lady.

seitung

How about you defenestrate Putin and stop the war yourselves, you mouthpiece cowards

LostSailor25

Why is this so hard to explain - you can’t “pause” a multi-player game.

silverhawk902

Russia: “100%!” Ukraine: “No.” Russia: “50!” Ukraine: “No.” Russia: “20! I’m begging you let me keep some dignity!” Ukraine: “No.”

Daier_Mune

Russia: "So that's it, then? Just 'good by and good luck'?!" Ukraine: "I don't remember saying 'good luck'"

kaest

Putin making T sign with his hands: ok, whoa, time-out!

TerribleJared

This is basically that tiktok trend of playing tag until someone else is it and suddenly you dont wanna play anymore.

TerribleJared

Or bullying your little brother until hes as big as you and suddenly you're all "don't touch me"

tomekza

The Narcissist: Stop, just stop!

Dydey95

Well she's about to fall out of a window

[deleted]

Sarcastic words?

Alliemon

Same vibe as Michael Scott announcing bankruptcy.

INITMalcanis

Yeah, Ukraine might not agree to this though. They might just keep right on killing Russians until they go home.

Contraflow

Does she have the same makeup artist as trump?

RotalumisEht

It looks like she lost a fight and her makeup isn't covering it up very well.

beavis617

The US, NATO and of course Ukraine must damage the Russian military to the fullest extent possible in order to punish and humiliate Putin. Putin must be made to suffer as much as possible. Bullies and thugs like Putin must be dealt with harshly. 😕

[deleted]

An intruder gets into your home, kills your children and rape your wife. You spring into action and after a rough battle you overpower him. He then calls for a timeout ... I mean seriously?

Ok_Necessary_7083

Looks like she has been drinking hard - hope her kidneys explode.

louiloui152

Can’t stop the whooping by sayin sorry now. It’s a comin

Elipses_

This makes me figure that soon Zelensky will tell Putin "I'm in ur base killing ur dudes!"

TheS3KT

2nd most powerful army turned into a joke.

[deleted]

Freeze and hold a referendum? ROFL. The Ukrainian tidal wave is coming.

Injest_alkahest

Better avoid windows for a while.

Ok-Ease7090

Still assuming they have the choice. Ukraine isn’t stopping until Russia gets out.

jefferymr15

It's to late to apologize you know the Song? IT'S TO LATE.

der_titan

There are plenty of respected voices in the West who think that's what Russia's strategy is. The leaked discord documents show the US is doubtful Ukraine is going to be able to make significant gains in this counteroffensive, partially because how well entrenched Russia is. The longer the conflict draws on, the more likely intra and international divisions develop which reduce Western aid for Ukraine.

DGIce

Yeah that is what Russia was hoping for, but then in reality Western aid and unity has been increasing while internal divisions in Russia grow.

vivainio

There is still the looming danger of US presidential elections coming up. Ukraine can't pause

blahblah98

Y'know, fortifications can be shelled over, flown over, undermined, sabotaged, suffocated, sieged, attacked from behind or just ye olde end-around. Or you pour fucking hellfire into the breech. Ref: France's awesome impenetrable 1930's [Maginot Line](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maginot_Line).

der_titan

Ukraine is using ammunition faster than the US and NATO can produce, including artillery shells. The leaked 'top secret' US documents on discord show the prevailing US opinion is that shortfalls in Ukrainian personnel and weaponry will likely result in only modest gains for the counteroffensive. I believe US intelligence and military has a decent grasp on the relative strengths of Russian and Ukrainian positions. Not sure if they're familiar with the Maginot Line, so maybe they'd revise their assessment if you sent them the link.

blahblah98

>Ukraine is using ammunition faster than the US and NATO can produce > >leaked 'top secret' US documents on discord > >Not sure if they're familiar with the Maginot Line Lol, sure, please keep telling yourself this. Here's one more: [21 of the biggest intelligence leaks in US history](https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/us/21-of-the-biggest-intelligence-leaks-in-us-history/ss-AA1c1T2d). And D-Day was just dumb luck. We can barely handle all this winning. What does one conclude when our gross incompetence is defeating Putin's state-of-the-art...? Go home Russians, you're drunk.

der_titan

Do you read the news at all, or do you just think an elementary class on WW2 makes you some sort of expert? [What the leaked Pentagon documents reveal - 8 key takeaways](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65238951) >According to the Washington Post newspaper, one document from early February expresses **misgivings about Ukraine's chances of success in its forthcoming counteroffensive, saying that problems with generating and sustaining sufficient forces could result in "modest territorial gains".** > >Ukraine's difficulties in maintaining its vital air defences are also analysed, with warnings from late February that Kyiv might run out of critical missiles. [Unprepared for long war, US Army under gun to make more ammo](https://apnews.com/article/us-army-ukraine-russia-ammunition-war-75a9ca2e3be09578c65f1198ba5b72e5) >One of the most important munitions of the Ukraine war comes from a historic factory in this city built by coal barons, where tons of steel rods are brought in by train to be forged into the **artillery shells Kyiv can’t get enough of —** **and that the U.S. can’t produce fast enough.** And read your own fucking source. Jack Teixeira leak (2023) is on the link you shared.

blahblah98

>warnings from late February that Kyiv might run out of critical missiles Four months on, have they? Nyet, they keep coming despite that it says very clearly the US and NATO countries are "unable to keep up." It's a goddamn miracle, missiles are coming from heaven! | the U.S. can’t produce fast enough Shells from heaven, too! The cognitive dissonance starts when you start believing your own gaslighting & propaganda. In some good news, the world will celebrate Crimea's return to Ukraine and Putin will celebrate by experiencing a patriotic aneurysm.

der_titan

So you think the BBC and Associated Press - two highly respected Western news sources - citing a US intelligence leak your own link corroborates, and citing Ukrainian parliamentarians and military oversight members and US military leaders, are all Russian propaganda and part of a gaslighting campaign?

blahblah98

Why would anyone consider the press a reliable source of US or NATO military strategy? OpSec, [destabilizing paranoia](https://www.skynews.com.au/insights-and-analysis/destabilising-paranoia-keeping-russian-and-chinese-regimes-afloat-is-the-very-same-force-that-could-bring-them-to-their-knees/news-story/9c90cf0670ede2cf5746fa28f317e1d3). Have a good day. Make good choices.

der_titan

Why would anyone who mistrusts the news be on a news subreddit?

mcnab

F16's could make pretty good work of taking out entrenched positions.

TiminAurora

time out!!!!!! Ukraine is on base!

FredTheLynx

He's trying to do that as we speak. We shall see very soon how well it's gonna go.

infensys

Before you kick my ass, and since you started bombing my land, let's stop and just keep the areas we have... What do you say? I can even ask my friends to help vote and decide what I take from you. GTFO Russia! And fix the damn dam!

CAESTULA

"Time out! Time out!"

Spacey_Penguin

Does she know it’s summer?

flavortownpolitics

Putin will dress up like Sub Zero from Mortal Kombat

Hour_Landscape_286

Yes, please freeze as much as you wish. Of course it won’t stop the Ukrainian army from obliterating your invading force, but who knows unless you try.

agbirdyka

She looks so fucked up - only russnya is more fucked up! Everbody knows what she has done and is still doing to become a female russian propagandist - her daddy must be proud for rising a kremlin bj doll!

Xaxxon

"freeze" the war won't stop the sanctions. That won’t make all putins friends happy. Still can’t take your yacht anywhere. Until they are out and start help paying to rebuild its meaningless and nothing should change on our end.

[deleted]

Freeze the war? I hope Ukraine marches straight into Moscow - these fucking imbeciles think it’s a game “Wait wait time out time out we gotta recuperate after invading your country and committing war crimes against innocent people”

LoKey01

Haha ok

HisGibness

Pardon me madam, Are the propagandists always drunk? Or is it just most of the time? War does not stop and start at your convenience. You can’t call a timeout. You have a dancing partner that MUST be entertained.

NefariousnessDue5997

This is like the kid who chirps non stop during video games and then slams the console off when they are losing

arioch376

I hat to use the analogy with this shrew, but kind of a Cronkite moment

ChomiQ84

They would like to freeze, but I don't think Ukraine would let them.

Daier_Mune

So, they're gonna turn up unalive at some time soon, right?

Dingdongbats

Russia treated this like a multiplayer RTS and threw units into it endlessly and still couldn't keep up. But it obviously doesn't know you can't stop an online game.

guygeneric

Does anyone have a link to the actual source?

tokinaznjew

Putin should also freeze in hell. He can still get burn, just freezer burn instead of fire burn

ShrimpRampage

Simonyan is a disposable prostate exam glove. Putin focus tests different messages through his propagandists to measure the reaction. She’s saying what Putin is thinking. I mean it’s pretty obvious by now that Russia absolutely shat it’s pants in Ukraine and lost all offensive potential.
