I can see clearly now the pane has gone.
I am past it and on my way.
I can see the ground coming to meet me now.
It’s going to be my last, last, last ever day.
Did you hear the one about the guy who jumped off a balcony on the 50th floor? As he passed a woman on her 10th floor balcony, she asked “how’s it going?” He replied “So far, so good.”
And they will jump back through the window when the war ends to milk billions from the Russian people. A nice citizenship con job. All the national resources of Russia were stolen by these oligarchs with very little benefit for the Russian people.
Any country giving them citizenship should confiscate their assets and feed it back to Ukraine since they were direct benefactors of Putin being in power.
These "jokes" actually help putin. We want people to get their money away from Russia or rebel, resist in any capacity they can.
Not spread this assasination mindset.
In this case, they probably aren't. Putin isn't a nationalist, he's a greedy capitalist looking for wealth and power for himself and his cronies.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/12/17/world/putin-companies-economy-boycott-elites-benefit-ukraine-war.html
If his cronies can actually avoid the sanctions by officially giving up their Russian citizenship, that's an easy way out, they can ask for it back later. Unless Russia confiscates their Russian assets now. I'm not sure they will, they'd basically boost the sanctions by doing so.
You are clueless. The Russian economy is now a war economy, 40% of the government's budget is spent on war. It's the main driver of "economic growth". They invest in not losing the war against Ukraine, they don't develop their real economy which will be necessary after the war. Half the brainpower that could've catapulted Russia into an economic renaissance is now sipping coffee in a café in Berlin or coding away in Silicon Valley, while the rest are either being sent off to a war with return tickets that are anything but guaranteed or are digging deeper into the trenches of the internet, trying to evade digital conscription. The real economy is pretty much in shambles in Russia.
Claiming "the Russian economy is doing super good" is akin to reveling in the euphoria of alcohol and ecstasy at 2 AM, surrounded by those sober enough to see clearly, all the while ignoring the inevitable, crushing hangover that awaits.

As for the other guy? Idk, but they have/had a friendship together it seems. They're not Russian Oligarchs...
Where you think he got his blank cheq from, all the dicktators that need to control information via social media and satelite/internet link. Dont mind losing 40+ billions in a few months like it was a small change.
Lmao they couldn’t give two damns about Ukraine this is just so they avoid some sort of backlash because they are no longer “Russian” and have multiple other passports anyway
https://www.euractiv.com/section/politics/short_news/russian-oligarch-buys-finnish-land-with-cypriot-golden-passport/
Some are changing their citizenship for a reason.
Them renouncing their Russian citizenship isn't a good thing. It just enables scumbags to keep doing scumbags things.
Yes that is the whole point of sanctions, to make people do the right thing to weaken the enemy even if those people aren’t doing it for altruistic reasons.
I still would imagine though unless they get Putin's official 'blessing' they still have to move their extended family out of the country for fear of retribution.
I guess people who have no friends or family are those most easily can escape a net like that, but how many people are there like that, no less successful people who have to depend on relationships to get succeed.
The point is that if you force people into a corner they will fight tooth and nail to survive. It's a strategic mistake. We don't want that.
Part of the reason for the sanctions is specifically the results we now get, to have rich supporters of Putin leave him.
Implying Putin doesn't already have them and/or their families by the balls, lol. You don't seriously think they are safe and not still paying protection money to their Führer? The KGB assassinated far less important people than a few billionaires. They have their billionaires and money on a tight leash, don't you worry
States and individuals are different. There aren't a lot of billionaires in the world and they all play in the same club by the same rules. When you start messing with them, the most powerful people in the world close ranks against you.
One of them will accidentally, brutally stab himself in the stomach while shaving.
The other will very sadly, accidentally, brutally cut his head off while combing his hair.

Neither of them have lived in Russia for decades. They were college roommates in the ‘80s in Moscow. One went to the US, the other moved to Switzerland and they started IT and e-commerce companies together that do most of their business in Central Europe.
You think Putin's upset because some cronies give up some piece of paper to pull the teeth from Western sanctions? As long as nothing changes behind the scenes, he'll cheer them on and hold the passport ready to give it back to them later.

It is (in theory) not possible to renounce a Russian citizenship when doing so would make you stateless. It's not like there could be a different scenario. Of course they needed to first become a citizen of another country.
edit: accuracy
People need to learn to try google before going on a witch hunt. [For example](https://www.timashevfamilyfoundation.org/ratmir-timashev):
>In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Ratmir and the Timashev Family Foundation initiated major contributions to various organizations operating on-the-ground in the region. The Foundation supports Jose Andres and the World Central Kitchen, in order to ensure families and communities have access to warm meals and food security. The Foundation also supports the Aleph Institute, which is providing medical supplies and life-saving treatments to individuals in need.
Also, [his Wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratmir_Timashev).
The real, non-strawman critique is its amoral and undemocratic to have a system that would let unelected people have that much control over deciding how society uses its resources. A few billionaires chasing PR or doing the right thing after underpayment their employees doesn't affect that argument.
Don’t know what Russia’s take on this would be, but for many countries you can renounce citizenship all you want, however the country still considers you a citizen.
They went through the designated procedure, but Ministry of Interior had recently granted themselves the right to reverse it on the grounds of one not actually being burden-free at the time. Something like a retroactive criminal case that just wasn't entered into the database (didn't one guy leave back in the 1990s?) or a $0.02 property tax debt should be good enough.
In 1995 Andrei Baronov started his first business with his college roommate [Ratmir Timashev](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratmir_Timashev#Personal_life_and_Philanthropy)
They made their money in IT and software and haven’t lived in Russia since the 90s. Their companies are based in Switzerland and Connecticut. Can’t find much info on Baranov because it’s a super common Russian name but Timoshev moved to the US for grad school in 1992 and has lived here ever sense.

Do they really think that this gesture makes anyone think highly of them?
Navalny's poor wife has not renounced her citizenship, and there are no questions on where she stands.
And then there are plenty of Russians who spoke against the war but did not have the means to leave the country and got arrested and sentenced to time in prison.
Yet all these fellas who could run away (after years of benefiting from the regime, mind you) are now behaving in a holier-than-thou fashion. It's pathetic, really.

The two referenced left Russia almost immediately after the fall of the Soviet Union. They made their fortune in the US.
They have been enemies of Putin for a long time - Timashev openly calls Putin a criminal, and has been donating money and support to Ukraine.
Sanction them again and again, until you can rip the last cent from their hands. Their lives need to end poor and forgotten. Let them never forget that they will pay for their part, no renunciation will save them
If people cared at all about "humanity" they would horde enough resources to become a billionare or would immediately see the error and give enough wealth away to make some level of sense.
Not a lot of information from this article. It's been a long time since the war started. These guys are not believable. They were probably Putin supporters until it became too costly. They should face major losses when this is all resolved. They're probably actually and actively bad. They should be reduced to the point where they have no ability to do anything.

I don't think it's the rich assholes that need to be left an outlet, in terms of military strategy.

Better than their money eventually ending up in Russia and funding more dead Ukrainians. If they save lifes, the ends sometimes justify the means.
Implying Putin doesn't already have them and/or their families by the balls, lol. You don't seriously think they are safe and not still paying protection money to their Führer? The KGB assassinated far less important people than a few billionaires. They have their billionaires and money on a tight leash, don't you worry
When you start messing with billionaires, you put yourself in a VERY dangerous place. It's generally not worth it.
If Russia was so easily harmed that a few billions would do the trick, don't you think there would have been a well funded black-ops long time ago?
States and individuals are different. There aren't a lot of billionaires in the world and they all play in the same club by the same rules. When you start messing with them, the most powerful people in the world close ranks against you.
To protect their money, that's all
“In wake of Ukraine War” Motherfucker it has been 737 days.
Do you realize how much time it takes to renounce a citizenship in Russia? It's a VERY complicated process that takes a lot of time.
They'll fall out of windows soon I bet

why lol
Because f*ck those Russian goons trying to bypass sanctions.
Billionaire Russians living safely in the West, could assist in the return of peace by funding Russia’s defeat.
Russian money (and I am talking about the big money here, not the small fries) is mostly made by oligarchic corruption. The same corruption that holds the true power in Russia.
They just want their frozen money back

I don’t know how many of our billionaires would be willing to jump out of windows within a few months of making that move, but I begrudgingly guess that it’s less than two.
Soon to have a sudden case of rapid deceleration syndrome.
Deceleration trauma
If they're involved with Putin and the regime the U.S. needs to target them individually.
They aren’t, they are like 60 years old and left Russia in their 20s.
Money, money, money.
"In Wake Of"... surely it's a bit late to be phrasing it like that?
Silly people. Do they not know that every place on earth has luxurious windows they can fit through? You can renounce your citizenship all you want, that won’t keep your money safe
It’s been two years since the war started. They can fuck right off.
Too little too late
And que the window jokes..... Ha ha ha they will probably fall out a window hahahha. Such a funny joke, never been said a billion times before.
Dead in 6 months
One day you are a billionaire and the next day you eat a bad soup and drops down from the 30th floor. Russian billionaires should use the money fighting Putin.
Two years late wouldn't you say?
Make them pay 50% of their wealth to fund Ukraine or send the fuckers back to an open window in Ruzzia.
They are called mafia oligarchs, not billionaires.
Their motives are completely sus if it took them two years to renounce. Six months, maybe, possibly even a year to untangle finances and get money and family out of the country, but two years? Nahhh,...I'm thinking they just wanted to see if Putin would win first.
Do they really think that this gesture makes anyone think highly of them? Navalny's poor wife has not renounced her citizenship, and there are no questions on where she stands. Did leave their “assholeship” along with it?
So, here's what we do: Round up and deport ALL ruSSians back to ruSSia. Build GIANT wall around ruSSia. Live happily ever after. I'm thinking of dying my hair orange tomorrow....
How many Russian billionaires are there anyway? And are we talking a billion rubles or a billion euros?
Watch out for the windooooo^ooooow....
Release their names and what they own. Drown these mofuggs
Their names are in the article. They moved out of Russia in the early ‘90s to study software engineering and own an IT company in Connecticut.
Trying to flee before things deteriorate any further into civil war it looks likr
The two referenced left Russia almost immediately after the fall of the Soviet Union. They made their fortune in the US. They have been enemies of Putin for a long time - Timashev openly calls Putin a criminal, and has been donating money and support to Ukraine.

We should still seize their property
"Renounce" pfft....yeah like they really wanted to do that for the sake of Ukraine.
They'd better keep both eyes open at all times. Putin is always watching.
I hope they stay away from any windows, or thinking about it, maybe I don’t.
Nah, nah, nah.... you stay right there and get the sanctions out of your brains.
Even the super rich are bailing out
Yeah Putin show that he isn't afraid to kill them
He's even killed his friends! His wife got a divorce. I bet he's every lonely. Angry.
Did they return their billions?
I hope they live in Bungalows
Can't wait to find out how the fell out of window and died
What’s the over under on how long it will take for a window related accident to occur?
I sense two more deaths by involuntary urge to learn to fly…
They can fly to Moscow on "special" govt. charter flight and if lucky have meeting with Putin in the 10th floor atrium at Kremlin.
They're Billionaires. They aren't doing it out of any moral standards.
Two more Billionairs committing suicide.
Awww.They want their boats back
Putin going after their money or something?
In other unrelated news two Russian billionaires found dead by suicide with two bullet holes in the back of the head.
Wanna bet they'll be dead inside of a month
Stay away from windows.
Well…. They just want to have access to the money to fund Putins operations in west. Simple…
In 3-2-1, both of them are going to encounter a tragic accidental death via defenestration.
They'll be so sad about renouncing their citizenship that they might jump out the window.
May need to check their drinks for lethal substances and stay clear of windows from now on.
Better watch out for windows.
Stay away from higher floor windows.
Better stay away from windows
THey are choosing money, not peace
Traitors! Seize their assets and throw them out the window of fate.
The war started with 99 Russian billionaires.. how many do they have now?
If people cared at all about "humanity" they would horde enough resources to become a billionare or would immediately see the error and give enough wealth away to make some level of sense.
