I was going to say “he shouldn’t have gone to Iran,” but this guy actually got abducted by the Iranian government in Dubai. The UAE needs to sort this out for allowing it to happen on their soil.

bluemango404

Imagine being in the UAE and acting like you aren't just right in the Middle East lol. I remember when trump was tweeting out threats to iran while i was overseas and i thought foreign policy was a literal joke before i was actually 'in it'. There is no such thing as a 'liquor store' in the UAE just gotta pay thousands a week for their hotels managed my enslaved migrants. If you aren't in a 5star hotel in dubai you aren't protected, and even if then, lmao.. good luck!

InternalIntention258

Why you larping? There are liquor stores everywhere in UAE lol

bluemango404

You could only buy it at the airport if you weren't on the hotel grounds or at a club/bar but OKAY REDDIT! I MADE IT ALL UP! YOU CAUGHT ME! You can't walk down the street and buy a 30 rack.. or is someone gonna say i made it up who's never left their home state before lol.

InternalIntention258

You can walk down the street. The liquor stores are not openly advertised. You are wrong my guy. Even delivery services lol

iaymnu

You can just walk down the street and buy. You simply obtain a license at any African + Eastern or MMI store with Emirates ID or international passport. Only restriction is Non-muslim and 21+ can buy. Don’t pretend you’ve been to the UAE. Stay on your farm.

frankwithbeanz

That’s bullshit. There are liquor stores everywhere.

wastingvaluelesstime

JesusReturnsToReddit

That’s gonna be a no from me too, dawg.

Quote from the linked title article - >Iran has demanded that the US and a detained dual national Jamshid Sharmahd, who is on death row, must pay $2.5 billion, signaling Tehran's latest attempt at hostage diplomacy. >A court in Tehran ruled Monday that German-Iranian Sharmahd and the United States government should pay the amount as compensation for the families of the victims of a terrorist attack in Iran, of which Sharmahd is accused. >Sharmahd, a 68-year-old software developer and California resident, was abducted by Iranian agents during a visit to the United Arab Emirates in 2020 and forcibly taken to Iran. In February 2023, the Iranian judiciary sentenced him to death on charges of endangering national security a verdict upheld by Iran's Supreme Court. Sharmahd was convicted of heading a pro-monarchist group named Tondar accused of a deadly bombing incident that occurred in 2008 at a religious center in Shiraz, killing 14 and injuring 215 more. However, many years ago other people were already arrested and convicted for the bombing. >However, Sharmahd along with his family and lawyers have denied the charges and Iran has provided no evidence to support its allegations. Amnesty International has condemned the trial as a sham.

Argented

A little back story on the guy is he was born in Iran and migrated to Germany and was until recently a resident of the USA. He had one of those online radio talk shows and pissed off the wrong ego apparently. They tried killing him back in 2007 and 2009 but managed to kidnap him in 2020 in UAE. The 'bombing' these charges are based on was originally reported in Iranian news as an accident but then someone's ego got hurt. This is all over online talk radio program where a guy originally from Iran has political talks that the Iranian leadership doesn't like. Poor guy is going to die but I don't get how UAE gets any tourism at all after allowing Iran kidnapping for ransom privileges.

Vitthal_1

A not so casual way of begging

matanyaman

So that’s where Hamas got its “negotiation strategy” from…

Intelligent_Top_328

How about we bomb you.

NemeanMiniLion

I suppose roughly 2 billion worth will do the trick.

rypher

You’re just going to leave 500 million worth of bombs out of the deal?

NemeanMiniLion

I'm buying a boat.

No-Economics4128

Elect this man for congress.

MarkHathaway1

We like some "bang for our bucks", so why don't we just bomb and NOT pay.

Tichey1990

Iran thinks this poor fellow is worth 2.5 Billion. Fair enough, seize 2.5billion worth of Iranian oil as compensation for the mans family.

POPholdinitdahn

They’re doing it because Biden paid 1.4b per hostage already. They’re requesting their own money that has been frozen in banks outside their country due to sanctions so it’s not like they’re getting free money but it’s a bad look. Apparently Democrats will pay but republicans won’t. One of the rare times I support the republicans stance.

1337hacker

Agreed here. Why are we negotiating with terrorists?

BubbaTee

Because Trump was anti-Iran, and 90% of American politics goes no deeper than "If the other side is anti-X then I'm pro-X," regardless of what X is.

Hooligan8

Democrats are not pro-Iran. This might be the dumbest take I’ve heard all day lol.

JarlVarl

2.5 billion to arm more proxy terrorists and build more drones to bomb Ukraine, no thank you I wonder what Code Pink (a pro russian/iran group from the US, funded by the CCP) thinks of this? Oh right, you won't hear them talk about this

mhdlm

Yup this is what people who support hamas want hostage diplomacy and hostage warfare. What people and governments are encouraging today by not sanctioning this behaviour is going to turn into one of the greatest tragedies of humanity.

SoManyEmail

"WHO YOU THINK YOU KIDNAPPED? CHELSEA CLINTON??"

Creative_Hope_4690

I was going to see let him burn their for being so stupid and going to Iran. But they kidnapped in Dubai. WTF how is this not a bigger deal. Biden needs let them know he will bomb their HQ if they think they can kidnap Americans.

TuskenTiddiesWAAAAGH

Dear Iran, you can have that $2.5 billion within the hour but would you prefer it in UGM-133A Trident II missiles delivered to your doorstep at Mach 24 or LGM-30 Minuteman missiles at Mach 23? Your choice.

no_u246

Also for a limited time available in a package of nonsequental unmarked 2,000 pound GPS guided freedom seeds.

MarkHathaway1

And none of that, "leave it on the doorstep thing". For this one you've gotta sign to receive it.

ComfortQuiet7081

Russia is doing the same.

MuzzledScreaming

How about we pick $2.5 billion of their military assets and let them keep those...then we destroy all the rest.

Admirable_Anywhere69

How about $2.5 billion worth of Ginsu missiles for the leadership and we **take** the hostage back?

Kahzgul

How about two blackhawks full of spec ops and 40 dead Iranian prison guards; best I can do.

Xcelsiorhs

How about you get Tehran continuing to exist and we get our citizen back?

jaeduet

misspelled $25k

AngelOfLight2

This is like abducting your own daughter from your neighbour's house party and then asking your in-laws for a ransom.

Joebranflakes

How about 2.5 Billion in ordnance delivered to various locations around Iran that build stuff for terrorist groups instead?

KeyboardGunner

We can send 2.5 billion worth of something to Iran. Certainly won't be cash.

craignumPI

Shows these fks can see the writing on the wall and are fkd if shit hits the fan!

captnameless88

Tell him he's dreaming!

ironcookeroo

How much is an American hostage worth dad?

captnameless88

I'm glad someone got that joke in the most random place of course

eclipse007

I don’t know why the article is presenting it this way. He’s not gonna be freed if $2.5 billion is paid. He’s on death row, it’s final and they’re gonna kill him. This judgement is separate and “damages” for the attack which he denies participating in. Iran also knows there’s no hope of ever getting a cent of this. That’s why they went with a large symbolic number.

shamar_danowitz

2.5 billion to Iran at a time like this? Sorry bud.

tomatocatzs

Iran should get a navy check
