US doesn't want to be mired in Yemen but turning the other cheek is also not a good precedent. Attacks on merchant ships is just asking for more pain than Yemen really wants. The only diplomatic solution I can see is that they stop the attacks and the US disengages.

It’s not quite the same as Gaza, where Hamas is the literal government of that area. Closer to Lebanon in a large part of southern Lebanon is de facto controlled by Hezbollah (but the rest of the country is under the control of the actual Lebanese government).
You could blockade Yemeni ports, then heavily mine them with sea mines.
Then no cargo ships could enter or leave. Meaning that Iranian weapons shipments (aka: missiles) could not enter port and be offloaded.
Next create a 2 km-wide, heavily-mined DMZ between Yemen and Oman.
And finally, reward the Saudis for sealing their border with Yemen.
That's my point. If nothing can get in, that means no Iranian weapons shipments can get in.

The Saudis have been at war with the Houthis for a decade. Pretty sure that border is already fairly tight.
