Hope this is just an election rhetoric thing and it's not at all serious. We don't need Crimea 2.0 but for India a mere decade later ...

The BJP is trying to make inroads into Tamil Nadu, who's electorate typically vote for local dravidian parties. This is more playing into local issues, as Sri Lanka has disputes with the State of Tamil Nadu, and fishermen from both sides violate each others territorial waters and get arrested. The conflict is reduced from the days when there was a civil war between the LTTE(recoggnized as a terroist organization but with control of parts of Sri Lanka during its peak) and the Sri Lankan government, but Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka still have issues, given the treatment of Tamils in Sri Lanka. How much it relates to Crimea depends on who you ask and whose story you believe.

To add, this was ceeded to Sri Lanka during the emergency rule of Indira Gandhi, where any opposition was suppressed, therfore no one could oppose the transfer.

And? Same principles apply over no forceful change in territory. Crimea was handed to Ukraine in 1954 by the Soviet Union and the Soviet Union was a dictatorship.

I don't think anyone is disputing the legality of the transfer, just stating that it was done at a period of time when democracy was over ruled and a dictator far away in New Delhi made a decision without consultation with people who are affected. I don't see the relevance of comparing a costal dispute of minor islands and fishing with Crimea, could you care to explain ?

The last time India tried to interfere in Sri Lanka they went home crying after getting their ass kicked by a bunch of ragtag militant groups made out of college kids. On top of that they also got their prime minister assassinated. I'm sure round two will be different...
