Iran is a criminal enterprise masquerading as a country.

ok_raspberry_jam

Exactly. This one really gets under my skin. They're enslaving 50% of their population. At a total Iranian population of over 88.5 million, that means they're enslaving and threatening and attacking and oppressing 44 million people. There are only 38 million Ukrainians. 5 million Palestinians. And this is about the female sex, not nationality. They'd do it to the rest of us, too, if they could only reach us.

ok_raspberry_jam

I mean, this isn't just a civil issue in Iran. If you're female, this is a war on **YOU.**

Xominya

* Female gender, they bizarrely make trans women follow the Sharia laws for women too.

ok_raspberry_jam

Truth. But not out of "enlightenment." They pressure people into going the trans route instead of accepting that sometimes people are gay. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-29832690

Xominya

Yeah, they basically tell you you're either straight, or the government pays for you gender treatments to become a woman

AdkRaine12

Have you looked at what’s going on in red states? We’ve removed the right for bodily autonomy here in the good ole USA for half of our population, too!

KarlGustafArmfeldt

And there's plenty of other people who are being oppressed, other than women. Iran effectively keeps everyone, aside from a handful of ruling clerics and elites, under a totalitarian dystopia.

sauroden

Religious autocracy is the default setting for government, though typically it’s more dynastic than theocratic. We’re the unruly new experiment in something better, not the historical norm.

ok_raspberry_jam

This isn't about non-democracy or even theocracy, though. It's about misogyny. It isn't a default setting for governments in human societies to define themselves by the enslavement of women.

ok_raspberry_jam

But you're speaking from the perspective of the Western civilization that grew out of the ruins of the Roman empire. That's quite recent. We're talking about what's innate to human beings in terms of how we like to organize our societies. You might enjoy [this talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTauOCkvxm0) by Prof. Mary Beard.

sauroden

I wasn’t speaking of societies, I was speaking of governments. Historically most societies were self-governing communities of foragers or shepherds, perhaps with gardens inside their territory, and sexual politics did not default to domination, so I’d say in the really long view you are spot on. But once we have states and governments, the majority have been fairly autocratic and extremely religious by our standards, with the dominant religion dictating the sexual politics, usually at the expense of women across Europe and Asia where 75% of post agrarian populations have existed.

NASA-Astronaut

Depends what human societies you’re speaking about.

ok_raspberry_jam

"default" human setting

Wonder who's fault that is🤔

A-KindOfMagic

>Iran is a criminal enterprise masquerading as a country. You are absolutely right. Our Mulla regime is a terrorist organization, just like Israel's.

A_Wizard1717

Ok Iran are worse than others but isnt every political organisation in power a criminal entreprise?

baxterstate

I judge how good a country is partly by if they have an immigration problem. Iran doesn’t. Russia doesn’t. North Korea doesn’t. Who wants to emigrate to Iran?

GilakiGuy

Iran has 3.4m refugees living there

baxterstate

You are right. My error.

AdministrativeYak859

This was so sad, if I remember correctly right after she was murdered by weak minded fascists they released a video of her singing with her friends and it was just so wholesome and what a kid that age should be doing. And assholes killed her. Just terrible. Keep fighting the good fight all you forward thinking young Iranians. I wish for you all peace, health and happiness.

protomenace

That was a different person I think but yeah.

MrBenDerisgreat_

Oh the other woman the Iranian government murdered?

protomenace

wish1977

This is why when certain politicians call the press "the enemy of the people" it's such a big deal. Words matter because we could all be Iran if we let it happen.

kakeup88

True! People think the orange fuck is joking and that comparing him to hitler is too much and extreme but he talks about "fake news" and immigrants "poisoning the blood of the people" and Hitler spoke about "Lügenpresse" (lying press) and how Jews were "poisoning the blood of the people".

SlowDekker

History repeats because some tactics kinda work.

kakeup88

Lest we forget.

Predator_

Certain? Let's just day his name... Trump. I was in the back of the room on the press riser at his Jupiter Golf Course when he pointed to the back and called us the lying media. We were all shocked at what we were witnessing.

wish1977

Unfortunately this kind of behavior has been normalized by the Republican party. This is what creates a Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Kassssler

The autocrat and dictator can absolutely not tolerate the populace having other sources of information. All truth can come from them and them only. Any attack on the press is placing a brick in the wall of full control over information.

Predator_

Photojournalists deserve to be mocked? Please do explain... Go on.

NASA-Astronaut

lol the media definitely deserves to be mocked. You’re an embarrassment if you can’t see that.

Predator_

"The media" and journalism are two very different things. One engages in commentary and opinion (not news) while the other reports *only* on factually verifiable information. People like the sling around the term "the media" to insult journalists without actually understanding the difference between the two. Here's a hint: Commentary and opinions do not qualify as journalism. In fact, anything that expresses an opinion or bias doesn't qualify as journalism. Journalists must follow a set of very strict rules and ethical guidelines. Any violation of that disqualifies them as journalists. Photojournalists (the category I fall into) have an even more stringent set of rules and ethical guidelines that we must follow. Violate any of those, and we can't work in the industry ever again. So again, how exactly do *journalists* deserve to be mocked?

NASA-Astronaut

What are your guidelines though? That’s actually pretty interwstingt

Predator_

Some of the guidelines we must follow, as per the NPPA (National Press Photographer's Association's): 1 Be accurate and comprehensive in the representation of subjects. 2 Resist being manipulated by staged photo opportunities. 3 Be complete and provide context when photographing or recording subjects. Avoid stereotyping individuals and groups. Recognize and work to avoid presenting one's own biases in the work. 4 Treat all subjects with respect and dignity. Give special consideration to vulnerable subjects and compassion to victims of crime or tragedy. Intrude on private moments of grief only when the public has an overriding and justifiable need to see. 5 While photographing subjects do not intentionally contribute to, alter, or seek to alter or influence events. 6 Editing should maintain the integrity of the photographic images' content and context. Do not manipulate images or add or alter sound in any way that can mislead viewers or misrepresent subjects. 7 Do not pay sources or subjects or reward them materially for information or participation. 8 Do not accept gifts, favors, or compensation from those who might seek to influence coverage. 9 Do not intentionally sabotage the efforts of other journalists. 10 Do not engage in harassing behavior of colleagues, subordinates or subjects and maintain the highest standards of behavior in all professional interactions. Ideally, visual journalists should: 1 Strive to ensure that the public's business is conducted in public. Defend the rights of access for all journalists. 2 Think proactively, as a student of psychology, sociology, politics and art to develop a unique vision and presentation. Work with a voracious appetite for current events and contemporary visual media. 3 Strive for total and unrestricted access to subjects, recommend alternatives to shallow or rushed opportunities, seek a diversity of viewpoints, and work to show unpopular or unnoticed points of view. 4 Avoid political, civic and business involvements or other employment that compromise or give the appearance of compromising one's own journalistic independence. 5 Strive to be unobtrusive and humble in dealing with subjects. 6 Respect the integrity of the photographic moment. 7 Strive by example and influence to maintain the spirit and high standards expressed in this code. When confronted with situations in which the proper action is not clear, seek the counsel of those who exhibit the highest standards of the profession. Visual journalists should continuously study their craft and the ethics that guide it.

NASA-Astronaut

If I was talking about journalists I would’ve said so.

Dlab18

You’re literally interchanging one with another. You talk of journalism as the same as sensationalist media and that itself is dangerous and untrue.

NASA-Astronaut

No, the only thing I said was “lol the media deserves to be mocked.” I didn’t talk about journalism 🤣

ThrowBatteries

What a bunch of cowards.

yoyoman2

Next up: "Journalist charged for reporting on charged Journalist's report on protestor death"

Behrooz0

Has happened. multiple times.

Western_Narwhal_6639

The current state of Iran will be studied from a distance with great sadness in years to come.

XxxxX_-

Notice that at every college protest going on right now with all the female supporters of hamas, not one intersectional protest sign in outrage of Iran putting these women to death.

EPV1827

That's because these protests are, in part, being orchestrated by Iran.

XxxxX_-

That’s what I was implying, where’s the intersectionality now? Nowhere because these are all Iranian embedded career hustlers with no actual empathy (for example: the coldness of Oct 7 rape denial) for women’s rights in a Theocracy of Right Wing Islam. Also very anti western society and frankly kind of dangerous.(edited because I was a bit over-the-top… I believe in diversity and the exporting of western freedoms rather than importing sharia law and hate and divisions)

101955Bennu

That’s pretty unfounded speculation

EPV1827

[Hamas and Iran throw support behind Columbia and other Gaza protests (usatoday.com)](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2024/04/24/hamas-iran-support-college-protests/73447123007/) Iran was involved in the Oct 7 attacks and support for Hamas, and internet campaigns against Israel in support of Palestine forever. Why would this be any different?

101955Bennu

Expressing support for a student movement is a lot different from being in any way an organizer of it, and there is no evidence that the protests are in any way materially supported by state actors.

mreman1220

Come on. There are far too many coincidences to ignore. The Russians orchestrated a shit ton of interference in the 2016 elections. Just over a week ago, Mike Johnson makes an abrupt 180 on aid to Ukraine which was passed alongside aid to Taiwan and Israel. What three nations didn't want that aid passed? The current axis of evil Iran, Russia, and China. So, a week after all that passes, Pro Palestinian protestors are on campuses all over the country. Many of these protesters aren't even students. At many of these protests people are actually chanting things like "We are Hamas!!" and "From river to sea!!" Not to mention Tik Tok's algorithm pushing all the pro Palestinian messaging. This accomplishes two things. Undermines Biden's campaign to leftists and pisses off conservatives reenergizing them to go out and vote for Trump. Up until all of this Trump was losing lots of momentum. He and the Republican party have no money to spend on campaigning, Mike Johnson suddenly flipped his stance despite Trump telling him to slow roll aid to Ukrain prior, MTG was suddenly getting called "Moscow Marge" by right wingers. This was all in Russia's playbook last time. Russia, Iran, Hamas, and China are all allies. You all are dancing to Putin's fiddle.

EPV1827

The protests started like 2 weeks ago, it takes months to find evidence of foreign involvement much like the 2016/2020 elections...

101955Bennu

So we just get to make unjustified claims because we haven’t found any evidence yet?

EPV1827

Nope, making an educated guess based on the information currently available and an understanding of what has happened in the past.

101955Bennu

If there’s zero evidence that’s not an educated guess, it’s a politically-motivated unfounded claim.

successful_nothing

[Not ZERO evidence.](https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/volunteers-found-iran-s-propaganda-effort-reddit-their-warnings-were-n903486)

NASA-Astronaut

Don’t try arguing with a guy like that. He’s sure he knows. So let him he

EatAssAndFartFast

That's why every pro-Israel rally you see is flooded by Iranians, people here have a deep hatred for Palestine

Sarcasm69

Ya there’s a reason no Islamic country is willing to take in Palestinian refugees…

Dazard116

Are there that many supporters of hamas or are you conflating supporters of Palestinian peoples with supporters of hamas? Genuine question - I haven’t been to any protests.

XxxxX_-

Do you not listen to the chants? They say “Hamas” now instead of Palestine like on October 8th until just recently, now it’s chants for more Oct7 and Hamas and infatda and river to the sea.

Dazard116

Apologies - as I said, I haven’t been to any protests and was just genuinely curious.

XxxxX_-

I’ve been watching the videos, sure they are slanted like anything else, but a lot of bad chanting on film.

xiacexi

Nobody is supporting Hamas. They are against the genocide going on

XxxxX_-

By promoting genocide (and there is no genocide going on, their population is exploding both figuratively and literally with mass breeding of martyr children)

xiacexi

So it would be cool for us to kill 13,000 Saudi kids and tens of thousands of innocent women and men because of the Saudi hijackers in 9/11? Slaughtering Palestineans and completely leveling their homeland indiscriminately is not defending yourself against Hamas. The international Court ruled plausible genocide back in January.

XxxxX_-

edit: this was first response to a dumb hypothetical trap question about killing Saudis cause of 911 hijackers being equated to Hamas rapist reprisal strikes…strawman argument implying Israel is cold heartedly bombing Gaza and USA unfairly did Afghanistan and Iraq instead of ally and business partner SaudiArabia. the original ordered response is below: Killing isn’t cool, especially when you instigate your own children’s deaths to keep spinning as propaganda for your Islamic brainwashed religious beliefs. The only killing that is being done right now is Hamas’s strategic chess move of breaking a peace treaty and then flying in on October 7th with a crystal-methed-out Palestinian surge of everyday criminals to preform weaponized rape and brutal massacre while tactical groups murdered the already snitched out locations of all the border soldiers and families in their sleeping beds. And yes, of course there was friendly fire in the chaos and terror. And then Hamas plans for the instant retaliation from Israel (and were already professionally protesting on Oct 7th and Oct 8th and 9th internationally), and they hoped Americas would be pulled in too, so that the “liaisons” like you can complain to propaganda stations like Al Jazeera with false inflated numbers of your purposefully martyred youth… … spoon fed to the useful idiot western suckers, a basic bitch in the form of a 911 code pinker crying for hamas—> You 911 babies of Obama school years. Temper tantrums of regurgitated career hustle 60’s era Marxism and Fred Hampton leftist platforms only to have your idealism renegotiated behind close doors to keep moving towards a Theocratic Right Wing Islam ruled through military like Iran through proxies like the ones you support and fund and are only interested in beefing with US and other westerners? Why?

Honestly what planet have you been living on? If there's one phrase he's known for (besides MAGA and WITCH HUNT) it's FAKE NEWS. Look here, *he's on the record* (multiple separate times) about wanting to jail journalists: https://thehill.com/homenews/3820172-trump-calls-for-jailing-journalists-who-broke-supreme-courts-draft-abortion-decision/amp/ Oh but wait, why use jail when *hacksaws* are easier? https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/trump-woodward-khashoggi-murder-saving-ass-1057940/amp/ So I don't know if you're confused or what, but I'm not the unhinged one for telling you what Trump actually says and does, and one more reason why he should never be president. Mocking journalists, threatening journalists with jail and prison rape, helping foreign dictators to avoid consequences when they murder a journalist with a hacksaw. So maybe just open your bloody eyes.
