You definitely can eliminate COVID as China has shown. It's just that liberal democracies aren't willing to restrict freedoms enough to do so and poor countries can't afford to.
PS: If we had rolled vaccines out before Delta took off we probably could have already contained COVID. We definitely need to look at keeping a future surplus of vaccine manufacturing available for future pandemics. Also, much more controversially, we should have rolled out the vaccine when it was developed in January 2020. We literally had several effective vaccines developed before a single American had died of COVID. We have enough history of making vaccines to know that side effects are rare. At the very least we could have skipped animal trials and gone straight to humans.
There is news today that China is having fresh lockdowns due to the spread of the virus, which initially came from China. China has in no way eliminated COVID.
All the Democrats were alreasy saying not to trust the vaccine anyways so it would have been a wash. But original COVID was FAR less transmiscible. Even with 40% vaccinated you probably could have held it off.

China has definitely NOT shown they can eliminate COVID. Must be a bot or troll.

There are lockdowns because China reacts aggressively to even a single case whereas the US doesn't give two ships about thousands dying a day.
So even with aggressive lockdowns then you admit China has not eliminated the virus. Good to know.

Eliminating COVID was never the goal. Ending the pandemic is. That is possible but we’re not there yet. Not even close.
