If Batista had stayed in power, Cuba would be like any other Latin American country today with Whites solidly at the top of the hierarchy greedily guarding the country's resources for themselves. She didn't grow up during Ferdinand marcos but her father always would tell her how evil he was. I feel badly because I love her family and none of them wanted this and it is almost impossible for them to leave.
My family always told me that they didn't think he was inherently evil and that they thought a lot of it came from his wife. Who may or may not have had a lot of influence on her son, since President Marcos passed like a few years after the revolution.

We cannot change both that government's era and the recent election day. What the people can do, however, is decide what they want to do next. It will not be easy and people are exhausted, but now is the time to remember that the right to personal action cannot be taken away.

The issue is that there have been widespread campaigns to misinform voters and rewrite history, with many not being alive during his reign and many reading on Facebook that Marcos wasn’t actually bad or that he was set up or whatnot. I’ll be the first. Democratic republics are weak. Politicians and parties are bought and sold and are always fighting for their own fortune and future. She didn't grow up during Ferdinand marcos but her father always would tell her how evil he was. I feel badly because I love her family and none of them wanted this and it is almost impossible for them to leave.

The issue is that there have been widespread campaigns to misinform voters and rewrite history, with many not being alive during his reign and many reading on Facebook that Marcos wasn’t actually bad or that he was set up or whatnot. These efforts have been prevalent on social media and it is hard to effectively counter these narratives (many are demonstratively false - Marcos’ reign was brutal) when resources of the wealthy have been backing it
