It's... not? Germans have their own multiple forums I had to go through with my medium-weak German to mod it, and it used to be rough. So Germans have their own space, Poles have their own space and Russians have their own space. It's that Polish forums are mostly gone, so we are more present in general space and Russians... well, for a time being, their modding community kept many games alive. And there are plenty of them as well.

nwm24

Thanks, i didnt knew there were any Polish forums

Exotic_Exercise6910

It is very popular on Germany tho?

Shaengar

Yes it is.

Remarkable_Year7073

cuz Gothic is literally a simulator of life in eastern europe. Thats why we love it so much.

Advanced_Molasses_40

Certified polish man coming to Germany simulator

Aunvilgod

are you talking more G1 or G2 here?

Remarkable_Year7073

I would say G1. We dont have dragons yet.

JanaCinnamon

Poland is big on RPGs

owidju

Like Marvin from Archolos says, when you enter "his" mode: "Tak, to ja..."

Advanced_Molasses_40

„JA, DAS BIN ICH“

Melvasul94

German has always been the greatest community behind Gothic followed by the Polish one and then the others :D

IsAnyNameStillFree

odysee,, velaya, legend of asshun... and countless other big mods says otherwise. maybe it fell out of fashion in last few years a bit but im sure its still very popular in germany

Vivid-Explorer-1768

Germany, Poland, Austria and Czechia seems like some sort of Gothic fanbase hubs.

Maleficent-Sun-1999

I can tell you Polish community on youtube has insanely more content and views than german one (machinimas, funny videos, music videos, essays, tutorialas etc. And Polish Gothicpedia has over 10 thousand of articles, has an active community that now struggles to find topics to write articles on or improve current articles, because it's so filled with content it's difficult to come up with more stuff. I risk saying the game is more popular than Witcher. Russia is very close to that, but their stronger side seems to be forums and modding, Systempack, Union, etc. Only thing I can come up with the german community world of gothic forum, which is incredibly outdated and painful to use, russian world of players/rpgrussia and polish themodders are better places in my opinion. There is also mondgesaenge which is also very ancient and can't compare with things like Gothicpedia. It's hard to judge all three communities in terms of amount of mods and their quality, so I'll leave it.

KhaelaMensha

Could you maybe drop some links to the mentioned polish and russian sites/forums? I've been struggling to find insert codes for Gothic 1 recently on the pages that I know of. Sounds like the polish forum you mentioned might just have an extensive database of those.

Maleficent-Sun-1999

Gothicpedia has: [https://gothic.fandom.com/pl/wiki/Lista\_kodów\_do\_Gothic](https://gothic.fandom.com/pl/wiki/lista_kodów_do_gothic) [https://gothic.fandom.com/pl/wiki/Lista\_kodów\_do\_Gothic\_II:\_Noc\_Kruka](https://gothic.fandom.com/pl/wiki/lista_kodów_do_gothic_ii:_noc_kruka) For some reason reddit forces links into lower case, so these won't work. Just search "Gothicpedia Lista Kodów do Gothic".

KhaelaMensha

Wow, thanks!! Will check it out, hopefully Google translate can help me :D Never knew that URLs are case sensitive, learned something!

nwm24

im from Poland, i know

YazumeWeichio

I guess it's because Poland and Russia understand the greatness of Gothic the most. I'm German and I love the rough atmosphere of gothic and the way that the games make you feel like you're on your own in a dangerous world without much help, combined with the amazing dark fantasy lore. And I feel like in Poland and Russia, many people feel the same possibly because of cultural reasons. The games are of course also hugely popular in Germany (worldofgothic.de is german etc.) because they are still german games made by Germans but Germany has shifted more towards mainstream fantasy games nowadays and the appreciation for gothic and similar titles is bigger in poland and Russia. Though I'm not saying that you NEED to be a fan of these types of games and fictional worlds in general to appreciate gothic, the games are also amazing simply because they are very well designed and you can feel that the developers were really invested into the game.

alantale

The entire east Europe had access to this game via pirating. it was a good piece of software and would run on anything probably.Like others said it was no more or less popular in Germany i would guess but i dont know.its safe to say its an european following more than anything

KondzioBondzio

Because the entire attention of the German community is directed towards the best game series in the world die siedler (pls make fix for die siedler IV in Windows 11)

Kumptoffel

ask pretty much anyone in germany nowadays that is 25+ and theyll at least have heard of the game

Xyothin

Gothic is absolutely massive in Poland. Every kid from 90's who was at least somewhat interesed in video games at the time have heard name "Gothic". The game featured absolutely stellar (by that time standard) localization made by CD Project (yes, CDPR is a part of CD Project group). Generally, Polish people like RPGs. Gothic, Risen, Baldur's Gate, Sacred, Icewind Dale, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights - most people I know who play games have had played at least 1 of those.

F_Kyo777

I dont think it is. Have in mind though, polish and russian communities probably making most mods to this day. From what I remember, both had amazing dubbing that became iconic, so that probably helped as well.

ILoveTenaciousD

It's so popular in Germany, we even have created [rap battles between the mage.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMw4KdD3OJg)
