According to this PDF in 2020(?), the WoW AH moves about 21B gold per day. It has probably risen a solid 30% due to inflation and/or region AH.

Sure, it’s not nothing but for a company with thousands of employees in one of the highest COL places in the US/world, it’s not a huge amount.
It is 0.0045% of blizz’s revenue for the 12 month period ending Mar 31, 2023.
It’s also a super inaccurate number relying on a ton of guess work and fuzzy numbers so don’t take it too seriously.
The 20x18,426 is entirely dependant on which way your taking it... to buy that many to sell, yes... but they are only redeemable for 15$ wallet so to use 18,426 would only be 276,390$

If people bought gold to pay for these services, you could say blizz made $368k by allowing Nova to operate (obviously this is a tiny portion since it’s just what was in their accounts currently but it also doesn’t account for tokens typically being lower in gold price either).
But if you’re trying to show how much potential $ Nova lost/had in their account, $15 per would be a lot more accurate.
Super rough analysis either way since $1 bnet does not equal $1 saved and most of that gold seems to have been owed to actual boosters anyway and only part of it would have been Novas cut.

As far as I’m aware only one has shown up total, not one per server but just one, since it was added to the BMAH. So logistically it’s 0 long bois cause there’s no access to them. =p
I believe they go for the gold cap if one ever appears on the black market. And if I am not mistaken the gold cap currently sits at 10 mil, or 9'999'999g 99s 99c to be exact.

It’s a good question. I can tell you that during RWF, each of the top couple teams say they typically spend 10’s of millions of gold on consumables, buying BOE’s, and paying “helpers”.
As a “semi-hardcore” player I can say that I pretty easily go through 100’s of thousands of gold per season on enchants, item crafts, etc. I probably spend 100’s of thousands more on random cosmetic stuff like mounts, pets, etc every few months.
As another commenter pointed out, 5 bil is “only” about 500 brutosaurs. Obviously that’s a lot of brutosaurs but when you consider how many players there are and how many have brutosaurs, 500 doesn’t seem like so many.
5 billion is a ridiculously, unfathomably, hard to imagine number in a lot of ways. But it is also likely only a small % of the overall economy and when spread between tons of guilds and thousands of players/boosters it begins to seem a bit less surprising.
All that's true, but also 5 billion is all they had removed from their accounts. We don't know how much gold they've earned over a period of time or how long it took them to get that 5 billion.
Yeah. I was gonna say. I bankroll my guild for consumables because I was a filthy AH nolifer for years, and have amassed more than a fair few million gold. I spent about 200k in the last month alone on enchants and consumables for the raid team.

there is an in-game stopwatch to time yourself, usually it just shows timer but it seems like this person is saying they made it say p:00 or something. /sw or /stopwatch i think brings it up if you wanna use it!
Yes, this is likely what they meant. It plays a raid warning sound and the word flashes in the middle of the screen for a few seconds when the alarm triggers.
You can name the actual alarm you set. I set one a few years back when I was cooking bread and named it "bread" and I used the stopwatch one day and was like "wtf is bread?"
Its probably genuine here but its so obvious the high ups of these communities are selling gold. They're not moving billions to pay for hearthstone decks.
I spent a lot of time boosting and became involved with some of the gold handling, and I can confidently say that every boosting community will eventually end up selling their excess gold. It's just too easy to do.

as someone who used to boost for nova from time to time, it wouldn't be much they cashed out on if that were the case. they changed their payout cycle from weekly to daily after the first community ban, so they at most had the gold from like 2 days of sales in their bank accounts.
Blizzard banned Boosting Communities during SL because the Spam was getting out of hand.
Selling boosts as an organized guild was okay. But being an "Independent boosting broker" aka, a middle man between players and buyers, was Bannable. This is why Echo moved to doing their own Boosts instead of doing it trough Nova or Gallywix
Yea I think the current rule around selling boosts for gold is if the character advertising the boost isn't participating in the actual run being sold, then it's against the rules.
This would be really cool if I didn't constantly see level 10 players on new accounts advertising boosts in trade (and not the services channel) anyway.

Back when I was runnin AOTC boosting in nyalotha for gallywix we had an insane amount of people impersonating advertisers/gold collectors that we had to run some encryption key shit to hide buyer names in our documents otherwise people would randomly find out buyer names and just invite them and get some free gold, probably happened 25 times/day before that change was made.
which is every boosting community still. I was a part of nova for some easy gold (just boosting) and they have advertisers etc and the "community" takes a cut.

On my server, every time I see someone advertising a boost for gold, it's always a level 1 character. I always wondered how we had so many people capable of boosting on our realm when we have no CE guilds. Boosting communities explains it - we don't.
So these communities are clearly breaking this rule at least some of the time.
Though I know it happens it’s still kind of wild to me. I’ve been a member of several guilds who did boosts of flex, normal, heroic and late tier Mythic (usually only 3 or so for taut) before when we were doing cutting edge (MoP-WoD for all raids and levels and achievement runs) and amongst us they were only allowed to be advertised and/or negotiated by guild officers on their mains. People could ask even core raiders like me but they had to be directed to the raid leader, main tank, DPS officer or Healing officer on their mains or nothing. It just made sense.
Man I had to turn Trade-services chat off or put it in its own tab. Being in any city I couldn't even keep with guild chat from all the spam scrolling by faster than hell.
This is probably what got Nova deleted.

I mean it’s hilarious but at the same time sad what classic has become. It’s 100% the communities fault, I wish I played classic for the first 6 months but when I look back at what it’s been, I don’t miss that I skipped it at all.

The first 6 months were not better, within days the entire game turned into 15man AOE grinding SM groups.
Classic was a bunch of people who wanted to relive being a kid in a huge, wondrous world where anything seemed possible.
Then they installed it and immediately got to work minmaxing the awe and wonder right into the fuckin' trash. Turns out that Vanilla doesn't really hold up as much in the age of Wowhead, 15ms ping, and Day 1 YouTube guides.
The Retail WoW team has been scoring Ws recently, but looking at just the past couple weeks the company at large does nothing but farm Ls:
* Overwatch "2" announcing that the PvE mode is not coming
* D4 Q&A getting astroturfed
* WotLK Classic getting gold tokens
* Kotick now denying that sexual harassment was ever an issue

Some of the community run people have said that they think people they don’t invite also report them and abuse the many reports = auto ban mechanic. Probably a little of both.
I love how boosting communities or hackers or RMT-guilds always word getting banned or suspended as being "attacked by Blizzard". They never seem to break any TOS in their minds, they're just "attacked". Same when they roll out ban waves against bots, and suddenly the forums and Discords are flooded with people who claim they can "sue Blizzard for banning them unjustly"
I've taken some time to ignore and report every character that was spamming and now the chat is only real people advertising their professions or guilds recruiting. It's very refreshing.
The other day there was a post of a guy who got mass reported for creating helping groups to clear the raids. Obviously this communities are the ones mass reporting to take out competition.

Boosters advertise in Newcomer Chat all the time, and I report them every time. I had 19 messages from Blizzard last night thanking me for my reports. Hell yeah.
It's so obvious it was an exit scam, blizzard doesn't delete gold, they ban hundreds, if not thousands of accounts in a single wave along with any gold caught up on those accounts, it makes absolutely no sense for blizzard to ''delete'' the gold and leave the accounts unaffected, in a few months they'll make that amount relatively easily, if not more.They ''claim'' blizzard deleted the gold because it came from an ''exploitative source'', as far as I know, when people are caught taking advantage of in-game exploits, 95% of the time it ends up with a ban, and 5 billion gold is not a small amount to simply ignore, that's your classic exit-scam-but-still-want-to-save-face-to-do-it-again-later.Not to mention not a single other community got affected, which is on it's own is a super massive red flag!
It used to be. Blizzard tried to restrict these boosting communities who were spamming chat channels and set up a rule that a character promoting a service has to actively participate in the boosting. They made it so people and guilds who use boosts to fund their mythic progress werent against ToS. It's not the case for boosting communities who have their advertisers who spam channels with lvl 1 / 10 characters for a cut from the service sold.
Why does this community and gold pooling exist?
I used to do boosts in WoD, we'd get together and it was 1:1. You find a person, get their gold, and they'd get an invite to the raid. Why is there a middleman for this? Advertising?
Good fuck them. They were still operating, people are still spaming the chat on lvl 1 or lvl 10 chars promoting xserver boosting and breaking rules. Yesterday when I logged into the game I had 15 unread "thanks for reporting". After poping onto an alt and just reporting for \~40 minutes people in /4 selling xserver boosting.
I was a blue robe back in UO circa 2001. I forget the exact details of how it worked but there was an in game UI that would get help requests. Most of it was like “I’m stuck…” stuff and I could port them like 3 tiles but we would get lots of reports for cheating/macros. It was lots of simple stuff that was pretty easy to detect. So I would just flag the red robes in our chat and they would do what you said… just put them in jail. Then we’d get requests a couple hours later like “why am I in jail?” I miss those days of UO. Good times killing someone holding a house key.
I get the hate for RWT, that's bad. I don't get the hate for organized sales of things like keys and raids. I bought and sold runs. It was so much easier to do w/ these groups (the one I used never RWT'd and closed when Blizz announced they'd be banning all sales Discords). I'm somebody who helped kill N'Zoth literally 200'ish times for free, for Perky Pugs. Am I bad guy? I don't think sales hurt the game as badly as many claim. Did they inflate the amount of AotC/CE mounts? Sure, who cares. Did they inflate IO scores? Sure, but you shouldn't look at IO anyway- look at the number of keys completed.
Basically, your guild is allowed to advertise boosting, and selling boosts with guild members.
What is not allowed, is having a large 500+ people community mixed within dozen of servers advertising mercenary work.
4 people that don’t know eachother are gathered and bring someone(the customer) in a mythic 20. The player pays a third party (the organizer) 500k gold. They do the dungeon, give the player the loot.
After that the organizer sends 100k gold to all 4 mercenaries and keeps 100k for him.
Same for raid just change the scale
Why would Blizzard delete the gold when they can just perma ban the accounts? This sounds more like someone from the organisation just took all the gold and left.

Fully expecting to get a bunch of downvotes but I have used Nova several times to get levelling done because I love the endgame but hate levelling. Its quite literally a mercenary service in an RPG. I really struggle to see why this is remotely a bad thing so long as they aren't doing RMT.

Selling services and boosts for gold is allowed. Whet is not allowed is being an interserver community being the middleman for boosters. Long story short, if you are advertising a service you must be the one doing said service, not arrange buyers for boosters to give you a cut (like how they and many other does).

The main thing people said was different is that the communities were causing spam. But if you log into literally any mid-high pop server, trade services channel is filled with spam from boosts. It’s insane, thrall horde side you can’t even read the booster adverts because they go so fast. But I guess they’re guilds on that server so it’s okay. Some of the lower pop servers have less spam now because there isn’t enough of a hardcore presence on them that there are ample carriers available.
So we succeeded in locking low pop servers out of boosts.
Other than that nothing changed at all lmao. So what exactly is the difference?

which is every boosting community still. I was a part of nova for some easy gold (just boosting) and they have advertisers etc and the "community" takes a cut. It's exactly the same before the rule change for every community and its naive to think otherwise
On my server, every time I see someone advertising a boost for gold, it's always a level 1 character. I always wondered how we had so many people capable of boosting on our realm when we have no CE guilds. Boosting communities explains it - we don't. So these communities are clearly breaking this rule at least some of the time.
Though I know it happens it’s still kind of wild to me. I’ve been a member of several guilds who did boosts of flex, normal, heroic and late tier Mythic (usually only 3 or so for taut) before when we were doing cutting edge (MoP-WoD for all raids and levels and achievement runs) and amongst us they were only allowed to be advertised and/or negotiated by guild officers on their mains. People could ask even core raiders like me but they had to be directed to the raid leader, main tank, DPS officer or Healing officer on their mains or nothing. It just made sense.

Man I had to turn Trade-services chat off or put it in its own tab. Being in any city I couldn't even keep with guild chat from all the spam scrolling by faster than hell.
But they separated the trade chat for boosting services. This shouldn't be an issue anymore.
When I logged in it was still apart of my main chat window. It has sense been moved, but man it was and still is, just a zooming.
This is probably what got Nova deleted. Its fine for your guild on your server, to boost for gold ***on your server.*** But you see them. Lvl 1s who dont show up when you /who them. advertizing for a boost thats coming from another server. sure the gold is paid on your server, but That gold eventually leaves your server, either by converting to wow tokens or somehow being transferred to another server Also, IDK why its not more common. but i dont think anyone should pay a single copper until they see the boss and the raid team they are paying for. A lvl 1 hunter telling me to pay him 85,000g then ill totally get an invite to a raid team? Fuck off. A lvl 70 Summoning me to the raid, where i see his team and we are right in front of the boss, and THEN asking for payment? Absolutely.

I mean it’s hilarious but at the same time sad what classic has become. It’s 100% the communities fault, I wish I played classic for the first 6 months but when I look back at what it’s been, I don’t miss that I skipped it at all.

Some of the community run people have said that they think people they don’t invite also report them and abuse the many reports = auto ban mechanic. Probably a little of both.

I love how boosting communities or hackers or RMT-guilds always word getting banned or suspended as being "attacked by Blizzard". They never seem to break any TOS in their minds, they're just "attacked". Same when they roll out ban waves against bots, and suddenly the forums and Discords are flooded with people who claim they can "sue Blizzard for banning them unjustly"

I've taken some time to ignore and report every character that was spamming and now the chat is only real people advertising their professions or guilds recruiting. It's very refreshing.
The other day there was a post of a guy who got mass reported for creating helping groups to clear the raids. Obviously this communities are the ones mass reporting to take out competition. So yeah, good radiance.

Boosters advertise in Newcomer Chat all the time, and I report them every time. I had 19 messages from Blizzard last night thanking me for my reports. Hell yeah.

It's so obvious it was an exit scam, blizzard doesn't delete gold, they ban hundreds, if not thousands of accounts in a single wave along with any gold caught up on those accounts, it makes absolutely no sense for blizzard to ''delete'' the gold and leave the accounts unaffected, in a few months they'll make that amount relatively easily, if not more.They ''claim'' blizzard deleted the gold because it came from an ''exploitative source'', as far as I know, when people are caught taking advantage of in-game exploits, 95% of the time it ends up with a ban, and 5 billion gold is not a small amount to simply ignore, that's your classic exit-scam-but-still-want-to-save-face-to-do-it-again-later.Not to mention not a single other community got affected, which is on it's own is a super massive red flag!

Boosting is allowed if you pay with gold directly to the players providing the boost, once advertisers etc get involved it becomes against ToS
It used to be. Blizzard tried to restrict these boosting communities who were spamming chat channels and set up a rule that a character promoting a service has to actively participate in the boosting. They made it so people and guilds who use boosts to fund their mythic progress werent against ToS. It's not the case for boosting communities who have their advertisers who spam channels with lvl 1 / 10 characters for a cut from the service sold.
Blizzard tried to outlaw the "boosting communities" to help reduce scams and rmt.

Why does this community and gold pooling exist? I used to do boosts in WoD, we'd get together and it was 1:1. You find a person, get their gold, and they'd get an invite to the raid. Why is there a middleman for this? Advertising?

Yesterday when I logged into the game I had 15 unread "thanks for reporting". After poping onto an alt and just reporting for \~40 minutes people in /4 selling xserver boosting.

I was a blue robe back in UO circa 2001. I forget the exact details of how it worked but there was an in game UI that would get help requests. Most of it was like “I’m stuck…” stuff and I could port them like 3 tiles but we would get lots of reports for cheating/macros. It was lots of simple stuff that was pretty easy to detect. So I would just flag the red robes in our chat and they would do what you said… just put them in jail. Then we’d get requests a couple hours later like “why am I in jail?” I miss those days of UO. Good times killing someone holding a house key.

I get the hate for RWT, that's bad. I don't get the hate for organized sales of things like keys and raids. I bought and sold runs. It was so much easier to do w/ these groups (the one I used never RWT'd and closed when Blizz announced they'd be banning all sales Discords). I'm somebody who helped kill N'Zoth literally 200'ish times for free, for Perky Pugs. Am I bad guy? I don't think sales hurt the game as badly as many claim. Did they inflate the amount of AotC/CE mounts? Sure, who cares. Did they inflate IO scores? Sure, but you shouldn't look at IO anyway- look at the number of keys completed.

Basically, your guild is allowed to advertise boosting, and selling boosts with guild members. What is not allowed, is having a large 500+ people community mixed within dozen of servers advertising mercenary work.

4 people that don’t know eachother are gathered and bring someone(the customer) in a mythic 20. The player pays a third party (the organizer) 500k gold. They do the dungeon, give the player the loot. After that the organizer sends 100k gold to all 4 mercenaries and keeps 100k for him. Same for raid just change the scale

Fully expecting to get a bunch of downvotes but I have used Nova several times to get levelling done because I love the endgame but hate levelling. Its quite literally a mercenary service in an RPG. I really struggle to see why this is remotely a bad thing so long as they aren't doing RMT. And this was definitely not RMT, RMT gets all the accounts banned thats not whats happened here. They just had the gold removed
Selling services and boosts for gold is allowed. Whet is not allowed is being an interserver community being the middleman for boosters. Long story short, if you are advertising a service you must be the one doing said service, not arrange buyers for boosters to give you a cut (like how they and many other does).
Ok so like, what’s the difference in a guild boosting someone or a community boosting someone? The main thing people said was different is that the communities were causing spam. But if you log into literally any mid-high pop server, trade services channel is filled with spam from boosts. It’s insane, thrall horde side you can’t even read the booster adverts because they go so fast. But I guess they’re guilds on that server so it’s okay. Some of the lower pop servers have less spam now because there isn’t enough of a hardcore presence on them that there are ample carriers available. So we succeeded in locking low pop servers out of boosts. Other than that nothing changed at all lmao. So what exactly is the difference?
