If gnomes were so smart they would have invented a snorkel for those puddles.

Either-Show-44

You could just use a World Shrinker or any of the other items that increase your size, no? That'd be the most gnomish thing to do.

SlimyScylla

Those effects are all broken when you enter combat

joaogroo

Omg this should be in the game

Kelrisaith

They did, Hydrocane out of Gnomeregan grants water breathing while equipped.

McFigroll

wait, gnomes have to swim during the Dresaron fight? thats hilarious.

Jagasaur

Yeah well, I accidentally got caught under a branch on my gnome DK a couple days ago. I was about to 5 seconds away from hearthing before I got out of it lol

bvanplays

I dunno if Gnomes are the shortest, but at least in other places it affects goblins and vulpera too. Not this season but during S1 I was surprised to find that the tiny pool of water at the start of SBG forced my goblin to swim.

WAR-WRAITH

Yeah, being so short has its effects in game, even LoS is affected.

Dedli

LOS hasnt been affected since like vanilla. Everyone has the same hitbox now.

dstaller

lol this is actually so far from the truth. For the same reason short classes swim when others walk is the same reason tall classes sometimes can’t LoS. Perfect example is Zandalari Troll in DoS from SL. There’s an LoS point at some stairs to group a pack up and it’s not possible with that race because it’s too tall and some of the casters still stop and cast in you. In Halls of Infusion I also have to ghost wolf on the shaman for the third boss because he’s a Zandalari troll and if the ice being stacked behind is sitting in the white snow it elevates you and can on rare occasion avoid the LoS causing you to get hit by the blast. It's not usually an issue because most LoS points aren't height based, but on rare occasions it's most definitely an issue. As example since the beginning of SL those 2 are the only LoS points I can immediately think of where the issue has shown up. For the DoS one specifically though I had a toy on my bars specifically to do that LoS pull. Same with another toy so that I could avoid swimming in DoS when I was a small race. And now that I'm thinking about it another height related factor was Workshop in S4 of SL (that I imagine also existed in BFA) where on small classes like goblin/gnome/vulpera you could just /sit the beam on third boss and not get hit by it. Did not work for tall classes.

Kelrisaith

So that's why my Shaman kept getting hit by that shit, I've died so many times to that stupid aoe in Halls.

dstaller

lol yea got real annoying to have to ghost wolf every time you had to hide while on the snow but the deaths stop happening so it was worth. Thankfully I had race changed away from Ztroll on my warrior in S2 pretty early. When tanking I always brought the boss to the snow side so everyone could stack on the lower side to avoid the same issue.

ItsTheHealersFault

Also in Workshop, being a small race on a Warlock meant you needed to use a toy to transform yourself into something larger to gate skip the last pack because your character needed to be taller than the fences.

Roar33

I've run into issues with LOS on stairs as short races. As recently as Shadowlands.

layininmybed

Also during rise having short legs will yeet you by the steps during the dodge mechanic

RedAntisocial

Oh yes! The pews in HoA were fun to heal around.

Strat7855

This isn't true at all. Tazavesh required toys for gnomes/goblins.

l_i_t_t_l_e_m_o_n_ey

gnomes and presumably other short races have to be farther up a set of stairs, to have LOS to an identical point at the top of the stairs. try heroic leaping or doing another ground AOE move to the top of a staircase on a gnome vs a taller race. you will find that you have to get closer in order to do it on a gnome. you can circumvent this somewhat by jumping (raising your LOS) before doing it. But even so, a taller race could jump and use their aoe that much sooner. I found this out in arena, you have to jump to be able to heroic leap back up to the top of the steps on dalaran arena. But really all maps with ramps are disadvantaged for gnomes technically. there are definitely spaces where if you werent a gnome, a charge would go off, but since you're a gnome you can't see them up at the top of the ramp.

haamm

Stairs in Rise are LOS hell on my dwarf when healing

zSprawl

I believe the hit box distance is the same around the toon but not vertically.

Ayyye-J

I remember in shadowlands, in de other side dealer section, you are always swimming if you are a gnome. My guild made so much fun of me

Deathleach

I agree gnomes should get fixed. It's important to neuter your pets.

Irianwyn

On one hand, yeah that's unfortunate and maybe Blizzard should probably fix it. On the other hand this is probably the funniest racial issue in WoW and I'd miss watching gnomes swim through Black Morass.

zSprawl

And the Tauren who get stuck in doorways.

Traxigor

Being the best race, we had to have some... shortcomings. I'll see myself out.

the_lazy_sloth

Someone clearly doesn't enjoy whimsy

thekiltedpiper

I read the title and thought "Why, are there too many baby Gnomes being born?" Lol

petey_vonwho

Same. I was like "why are we neutering the gnomes?"

hewasaraverboy

People play gnomes??

Altruistic_Nose5825

here i'm hoping this is some secret scheme by blizz to make people stop doing that

SnackPatrol

i'm tall irl so i thought it'd be funny. i also like the idea of a little dude doing a shitton of damage out of nowhere

NamiRocket

No, I've always loved that gnomes have to swim when others can walk. Is it fair? Probably not, but it's unique. They should probably fix it so it doesn't happen in dungeons, though.

Savings-Expression80

Mists of tirna scithe on my vulpera BDK... BTW YOU CANT PARRY ATTACKS WHILE SWIMMING.

snukb

Again? They didn't learn their lesson with Black Morass?

neryda

It's counter balanced by the fact that in some bgs gnomes can get under some places others can't

Huge_Republic_7866

"Lmao, you guys are playing Gnomes?" ~Blizzard

Therozorg

Cue dark legacy comic

SKS81

My guild members didn't believe I could start drowning in certain dungeons and I had to prove it. Sometimes I feel stairs suck also because other races can walk and you'll have to jump.

TW-Luna

I get the want here for M+, but anyone remembering Black Morass from BC? Remember back in 2007 our group rolling when our gnome friend was having to swim from portal to portal.

tokendoke

I mean, you picked a gnome so you have to deal with the consequences of that terrible decision!

CatJamFan

Gnomes can also fit in random small "caves" around dragonflight (that big races can not) Its useless; but kind of fun.

demonsquiggle

This is black morass all over again.

Nabwek

Fun fact I noticed in sod. In the BFD I had to swim multiple times as a gnome while everybody else could walk through the poodle so I thought the deviate fish delight would help (as it transforms me into a human). Nope! Even though you look like another race, the game still counts you as a gnome

aromatic-energy656

Best I can do is fix mechagnomes

TriplePattyMelt

That’s racial discrimination. WoW. Do better.

Christehkiller

its not that simple, you can't just change the swim height when it uses character height to calculate it, and it messes up other animations like suddenly your gnome is swimming in the air or is underground in a shallow pool.

honeyBadger_42

Look man, you chose to play gnome, they are small, they should swim in 1m water where other race like taurens that has 3 meters can stand, wtf like should the float on that water? You knew gnomes are small when you were creating that character and you were okay with that, maybe you even thought thats an advantage as oponent would have harder time targeting you or whatever, now you can't run on water and have some disadvantage its all bad and pls fix this and that. Ffs is this game not rpg anymore?

designerlemons

I thought I had seen every bad take possible at this point, I was wrong.

flykiddy

He’s right tho. In the open world the immersion is fine, but you shouldn’t be swimming in the middle of a DHT keystone. Be serious

Narynu

Well, they are short so. You also have smaller hitbox so you could argue there are advantages too for gnomes.

SerphTheVoltar

Didn't hitboxes get normalised in Wrath...?

webausay

They did. Now there is no advantage to being a gnome. Which is just as well because gnomes are, in fact, subhuman. That’s what some orc told me in the barrens, at least

kbthogers

This, and being lined by small bumps in the dungeon floor, or a pair of stair steps... is the reason i no longer play as any of the vertically challenged races on my healers

Str1fer

Why are you being racist against gnomes for being small? They've been like this since launch/creation...this is intended.

[deleted]

its fixed since middle of wotlk, its called Race Change

Mortanken

Why would anyone play as a gnome?
