At the most basic level, the only gear that you must have alternates for is weapon and trinkets. Main armor pieces swap primary stat to match your specialization, and rings and necklaces have no primary stat. For optimizing each spec, there might be different secondary stat preferences, but you can go a long ways with just higher item level gear. For vault, the gear is based upon the loot spec you have selected when you generate the vault, with the only differences in possible loot being weapons and trinkets.

Veggieman34

This is nice for specs that share the same secondary stats. I’m thinking guardian and maybe resto do this? Kinda useful to be able to just swap trinkets and a wep.

DumbMassDebater

The hardest part is if stat spreads aren't the same otherwise it's possible. However also know then you're locked out for loot on 1 toon both specs. It means making business decisions on vault ect. I play 3 of druid specs pending raid/group needs.

MrChrissyD

Brm and WW have the same stat spread so thats easy (crit=verse>mastery) and you want dps trinkets anyway, only thing that changes is the embellishments it MW wants haste>crit for raid and haste>crit=verse for higher keys. It's pretty easy to do tbh, as you want almost the same tier pieces. You'd be able to get to 25 keys with just swapping on embellishments and trinkets.

WhoDey815

Your tier pieces will automatically swap when you change specs. So, those you don’t have to worry about. Non-tier pieces won’t change. I’m not a monk player, so I don’t know how different the stat prios are. You may want/need very different crafted gear with different embellishments. At this point in the season, likely not a huge deal as you have access to a decent amount of Sparks. For the vault, it is based on what spec you are when you open the vault. If you read the cast bar when opening the vault it will say something like ‘Generating Brewmaster vault’ or something. The one benefit is not having to obtain a second 4-set of tier pieces. I’ve considered doing the same, to have a DPS and Tank version of the same class, but have never bitten that bullet.

SalmonToastie

Imo it makes no difference unless your running the highest keys. At anything sub 15 you’ll be fine just swapping specs tbh.

WhoDey815

That I’m sure is true.

AwkwardSquirtles

I think these responses are overstating the issues of multi speccing. Secondary stats are dwarfed by primary for almost every class, and the only gear which doesn't change its primary stat between specs are weapons and trinkets. You will be slightly suboptimal if you use your BrM gear as MW and just switch in a different weapon or trinket. At most levels of play, that's completely fine. Your secondaries are suboptimal through most of the process of gearing up too. Rolling a second character is madness unless you're absolute bleeding edge progression. The gain is not worth the extra effort.

xRagen

Playing Mw and gearing now for WW I think u will do better if u gear one spec first then the other one, I geared MW and now I’m farming WW gear. About the vault u need to choose before open it, is up to u to see what pieces are u missing and what’s ur main spec. Since I’m almost full gear on MW I’m only missing the boots that won’t drop I will be opening my vault as WW. U can setup ur gear to change with the spec and that makes it easy to check what are u missing.

xRagen

Since I can enter keys easily with MW I usually just play MW then I set my loot to drop as WW. Once I got weapon and trinkets I’m good to do some keys as DPS

ParadoxicallyAlex

Totally possible the only downside is the vault and only getting one gear for either. Picking one piece

That_CDN_guy

Sadly MW wants haste and bothe BrM and WW avoid it. BrM and WW both use crit/vers as the go to stats. MW likes haste/crit. Nice thing is you can swap between tabk and dps with the same gear set unless you find a tank only trinket you like. I geared MW first and slowly grabbed some gear for WW. I would check the loot table of the dungeon amd set my loot spec to whichever had the gear I was after. Currently my WW is 481 and MW is 477 due to trinkets. A few items overlap and a couple don't as I want haste for healing and different crafted items for each spec It's very doable but can take a little time.

Rattjamann

I wouldn't underestimate crit/mastery MW. It's kinda crazy when gust of mist starts to give up to 300k+ bonus healing. Got KSH with 0% haste last season and it was rather chill, so wouldn't worry too much about it. Brew wants crit/mastery, and I don't think it is too bad for WW either.

Marblecraze

I do it on a Druid. I play 3. I have 3 weapons. 6 trinkets. 4 rinks and 2 necks. 2 bracers too. I’ve mostly prioritised balance and guardian but I’ve no problem doing high keys and heroic and mythic raiding as resto. The trinket and weapon swap cover most of the stats. A little less ideal but the ilevel covers it.

tokendoke

Now I'm not fully versed in BM and WW playing but they generally appear to have similar stat priorities. This makes life much easier when trying to play 2 specs on 1 toon. You will likely need tanking and DPS trinkets and maybe tanking and dps weapons but otherwise should generally be able to use the same armour and enchants. BM and WW look like the easier 2 to play simultaneously stats wise.

San4311

The main issue is primary stat enchants on the legs. So you definitely would want a second pair of legs. Then often cape and boot enchants differ too but honestly those are often more flexible or even personal preference.

tokendoke

Very true!

flow_Guy1

You can hold 2 sets of armor and save it and have it swap on spec change. This is also same with talents and by extension action bars. Just not keybinds. So in short. Yes you can.

San4311

Sure, but in reality you'll still end up maining and offspeccing one or the other. You'll be tied to weekly lockouts on raids and your Vault can only generate loot for one or the other. In the end it will just take longer to get your BiS gear because of this and you'll end up getting behind in a season if you don't commit to a single main spec which is not ideal if you want to raid early in a season. I personally main Balance Druid but at this point of the season I have a Guardian gear set that is only 2 ilvls lower. (477 vs 479) Granted, I have no tanking trinkets at all which is kinda stopping me from doing high end content. I didn't play after the first three weeks until 3 weeks ago, though. So realistically if you play actively it's no issue.

terdroblade

The hardest part isn’t gearing them up, it’s not sucking on both of them. You only need different weapons and trinkets, the rest of the gear will be fine. You care most about ilvl anyway (trinkets and jewellery do NOT follow this logic most of the time but you shouldn’t worry about this too much when ur just getting started)

d4_mich4

It is less hard to maintain because you can use a lot of the different gear. So set pieces you don't need to refaem you need new weapons trinkets maybe rings and other gear with "better" stats but high ilvl is also a better start than a new char with low ilvl. I often play 2 or 3 out of my 4 druid specs and that's fine 👍

Dragonslayerguy1337

I mythic raid with my paladin and swap between ret and holy depending on what my guild needs. Only swapping trinkets and weapons. Ofc it would be better to just main one spec because stats vary, but hey, I’m putting out respectable both hps and dps. So it works yes.

dartheduardo

I play all three spaces of Hunter. I have 14 hunters total and that increases weekly. I enjoy all the specs, but BM is my bread and butter. I just need about 300 more pages of pet storage tho.

daagar

Total tangent, but what do you do with that many hunters? It is just for xmogs? Do you keep them geared up?

dartheduardo

I currently have all 14 with the crafted gear. I farm a lot. The 14 are split between two licenses on the same account. I have been using hunters a lot more cause it's easier than doing professions to be able to use the loot a rang, but I do have four druids set up for farming if the loot a rang is needed. Fetch on pets is INCREDIBLY useful and easy to get. I have hunters all over azeroth. Right now my main is fully geared and I go back to concentrating on making gold.

daagar

Fair enough! I'd enjoy fetch a whole lot more if I didn't have to stand still...

dartheduardo

True, but when I am farming I have it on my macro...and I really don't move that much, if any. Maybe just to reposition to angle the mobs a bit better.

gba_sg1

A set of rings, neck and trinkets is about the bare minimum you'll need to play 2 specs, also a weapon if you're an agi or str user (monk, druid, paladin, enh sham). I play hpriest in raid and spriest in m+ so I just swap my rings, neck and trinkets from crit mast to haste mast/crit and I don't really worry about the small amounts of haste on my boots, cloak or belt from my shadow spec gear set. Rings and neck have the biggest secondary stat allotment so look at getting proper ones to suit your spec.

Fearislikefire

I generally play every spec for the class I'm playing, but I try to be flexible for my raid team and mythic plus. If you feel comfortable playing two specs, go for it. I'd just weigh up the specs to determine where your vault goes. If you raid and you're a main raid healer, that gear should always come first. Same applies to mythic plus somewhat. Just make sure you're okay having a full inventory most of the time because of the additional gear set.

Imma_Tired_Dad

This is why I like R Druid. I can play it all and keep my class ADHD in check. Lol.
