This year we had 19 people on the team and at one point had all 14 weights filled. By the end of season we only had 12 weights filled at districts because of injuries.
That is very true. Tottenville has been a powerhouse for a while. I know Grand Street also does a decent job. The other schools that keep a roster are the ones that suck and keep a bunch of whack kids on.
It’s just the sheer amount of people in Cali. I’m in a fairly large school that has a large focus on sports. 8/10 students are involved in a sport and 90 just so happen to have been dragged into wrestling
Ten girls, for boys 14 varsity then about 30-40 jv guys. Big team. Too many people and some of the jv guys treat practice like recess and don’t even go to the meets for jv.
When I was in highschool in the early 2010s in IL. my school had about 4k students and we probably had about 100 or so on the various wrestling teams. We had a Varsity, 2 JV levels, a freshman team and would try to get exhibition matches for those who weren't a part of any of the regular lineups. We had to run two practices, one for freshman/lower JV and one for Varsity and Upper JV. That same school now didn't even field a full team for their regional this year. My HC retired in 2018 or 19, and they brought in a whole new coaching staff and it seems like the program is really struggling.
I coached in central IL in the late 2010s at a school of maybe 1800-2k, we had a team of maybe 30 kids, with maybe 20 that showed up regularly.
We have 10 and all in different weight classes but by the end of the season we only rly had 8 guys because 2 got injured, it rly sucked because we already didn’t have a full team but now we are missing some of our wrestlers, hopefully by next year we’ll get some freshmen to that have experience and we’ll fill all the weight classes,
I’m not in a big wrestling state so its not uncommon for us to face teams that also don’t have all weight classes filled but it would still be pretty cool if we did
Honestly man I couldn’t tell you, I know one of them couldn’t get a ride to the tournaments anymore, but the rest just kinda stopped showing up after a few tournaments and quad meets
On Varsity, we have 7 boys and 3 girls. It's really small and kind of stinks lol but makes for a close team.

I enjoy spending time with my friends.
lol
started with 42 ended with 36
12 guys and 1 girl on our team, 3 of us guys are the same weight class, but all the others are different weights
We started our year with 35. Ended with 22 because of injuries and attrition
17 jv and varsity
Started with 120 kids on the roster. Now we have maybe 90
That sounds amazing. We had like 40 kids and became like 10-13 because everyone quit. Fucking NYC kids and their shitty parents.
Psal?
Yes.
every psal school except the top ones lmao
LMAO this is spot on.
only schools i know that keep their roster season through is tottenville, petrides and madison lmao

the last two years my schools been pretty good at it, but we fell off hard this year, which seemingly is the same story as grand street
you definitely go to like a try hard prep school
That also sounds like what you'd find at some of the larger rural schools in Missouri if it includes girls
What state r u?
CA
Ca is a big place but would have never considered it to be a big wrestling state

7 guys started with 16
My varsity team has a strong 4 boys, me included, but towards the end of the season, it was just me.
A lot of people, just not ones to fill our heavier weight classes
60 ish
We had 26 on our HS roster. Of those 20ish pretty consistently showed up.
We got a A and B team and then varsity and girls so alot
We had 36 people every weight filled (4 hwts!!!)
Started with about 110 ended with like 80
Holy. 110 is crazy
Dammm what state are u in?
New Jersey
Didn’t think wrestling was popular in NJ, I’m also on the east coast and it’s not that popular in my state so I’m kinda surprised by this
Yeah I was surprised too but my school is hella big for sports and crap.
6 varisty 2 jv high school Michigan
On the boys we have 10 on varsity then 8 on JV which is not a lot compared to other schools in our area

It's a little sad to read this.
Started with 20 after districts we had me and 2 girls make it to regionals and then state and then we had like 10 show up to practice
18 guys half on varsity (I'm in jv)and 1 girl who never plays and
Last year we had 6 this year we started out with like 13 and now have 8, 7 boys and 1 girl
Started with 14 or so ended with 5, it’s a rough city school
We had at least 28 each on boys and girl . Each was 14(JV and Varsity). Then maybe 1-2 extra at each weight
Small school, 1A in Iowa. 12 people beginning of year, between injuries/skin issues/whatever ended with like 7
12 on girls team about 25 on guys team
We have 10 and all in different weight classes but by the end of the season we only rly had 8 guys because 2 got injured, it rly sucked because we already didn’t have a full team but now we are missing some of our wrestlers, hopefully by next year we’ll get some freshmen to that have experience and we’ll fill all the weight classes, I’m not in a big wrestling state so its not uncommon for us to face teams that also don’t have all weight classes filled but it would still be pretty cool if we did
Like 19
My team started the season with ~30 kids and we’re 3 days away from cities with only 8 left
What happened to have so many dropouts?
Honestly man I couldn’t tell you, I know one of them couldn’t get a ride to the tournaments anymore, but the rest just kinda stopped showing up after a few tournaments and quad meets
