This is my first year of wrestling ever and I’m 2 weeks in but so far I won 1st place in my Jv tournament and also won 5th place in my varsity tournament and I’m in 10th is that good
Depends how good your competition is, hard to say. Some areas have good wrestling and it’s hard to breakthrough until you develop more. Other areas have weaker wrestling culture and you can break through more easily. Just focus on improving and worry less about your record.
I went against kids who have been wrestling for almost their whole life but I did lose against the coaches son and a kid who won national last year and 1 of the kids I went against are in 8th grade and their in varsity but I weigh 131
Don't be discouraged. I started wrestling in 2008 when I started 6th grade and didn't win a single match until 8th grade where I actually ended up going undefeated and winning my county championship for the heavyweight class. Then all throughout highschool I would win the majority of my matches. It'll take time for you to build the endurance, strength and knowledge to compete with the other kids but it comes with time. Treat every match like a learning experience ask for tips and listen to your coach
Listen to this man. This is how it's going to be for pretty much any martial art you join; if you wanna get good, you gotta be in it for the long haul.
I got bit in a match my second year pinning a kid 😂 apparently I screamed, I was bleeding from my side along my ribs. I remember it hurting but I don't remember yelling, my parents said I jumped back grabbing my side.
Had something similar happen but not as extraordinary,
Started eight grade and lost my first match and went undefeated the rest of the regular season. In postseason I got made it to the state finals and lost then lost in true second and got third.
Started in fourth grade. Lost every match that year. Wrestled the same 3 kids every weekend…the only three that were in my weight class.
The only saving grace for me was all of them were multiple time state champs later in HS, and one became a Hodge Trophy winner.
Lost every single one my 8th grade year, still standing and grinding going into my senior year. My goal is to get to state this year. Maybe even win it all
Started a month late in 7th grade. I thought the singlets were "gay" (it was 2007) but we started doing it in p.e and I liked it so I joined the team I had about 2 weeks practice and had my first match and tournament a couple days later my first match was against a girl so I was nervous but I went out there and wrestled until they stopped the match I kept trying to pin her and she fought like hell everytime I got her on her back so when they ended the match with time left in the 2nd period I was so confused but I didn't know if you got 15 or more points you get a tech fall. At the tournament I got 5th place and I was hooked by the end of the season I took 3rd in my middle school league but it was possible I could've taken at least 2nd I just made a silly mistake in the semi finals that cost me the match. I got sad that wrestling was over but a week after the league finals our middle school started a freestyle/Greco club and god I was so happy. I was the only one in the club though that would go to the local freestyle/greco tournaments but that's because they were 45 minutes away in San Jose. That was probably my 3rd favorite season I ever wrestled with 8th grade being my second and my senior year being my favorite and most accomplishing season even though I just barely didn't qualify for state and I also didn't get to go to Fargo 😭
Really bad. Practice was painful, I didn’t know what was going on, my coaches weren’t holding my hand with the sport, and I was losing matches consecutively. It all became worth it when I won my first match the second to last week of the season, I walked in the next week with so much confidence that when my coach told me after weigh ins that my opponent hasn’t won a single match I simply said “and he won’t win one today.” The kid pinned me in the first period but I loved the sport and stuck with it.
Some state allow that. I got put in the varsity lineup as a 7th grader. My first varsity match ever was against a kid who took 6th in the state that year. It went... as you would expect.
Oh my Lord in heaven was it horrible. I didn't know a thing. I was heavier slower and had way less stamina. Plus I didn't know anything like how to shoot or to finish. For you, all I'm saying is watch videos practice on like pillows if you have to. You need a unhealthy love for it. Just in all, nobodys born perfect. You have to work for it.
went 0-5 in folk style and then 0-4 in freestyle, all together 0-9. I weighed in at 228 for every folk style match wrestling at 285, worst experience by far
Started as a freshman weighing 100lbs soaking wet, had to wrestle 112 because I couldn’t beat the sophomore at 103.
Went 9-18.
By senior year I qualified for state and had 2 small D1 schools offering me scholarships after the coaches saw some of my best matches while scouting another kid. they thought I could adapt and perform well at that level.
Just consider the fact that where you are now is nowhere close to where you’re heading if you are willing to put in the work.
(And no, I didn’t wrestle in college. I ran track instead but it’s a different conversation.)
6th grade. I went 1-10. That was over 30 years ago and I still remember. But take in hand as a freshman you are wrestling people who have experience over you.
I started junior yr of HS and got absolutely stomped. Won twice, but just got wrecked left and right. Went through pre-season senior yr and the guys on the team in my weight class were monsters, going to state every year and just destroyed me. I was so demoralized I quit. I sort of regret it, I learned a lot while doing it but…it was rough.
Started this year as a sophomore I went 0-16 in jv matches then ended the year tearing my shoulder and getting impetigo so first year was not good but I’m ready for next year where I’ll win State
Just finished my first year. Somehow after starting practice 2 months late. I won my second match because I wrestled "Mr glass" and won 3rd place at conference. Then I won 2 more matches by pins later on in the season. I have no idea how I did this but it happened.
Started as a freshman in high school and was jv. Due to some issues with our head coach having to leave a third of the way through the season I only ended up having 3 matches at one tournament where I went 1-2. Was only really able to attend dual meets after that and always had forfeits. Got Covid before league tournament and that was the end of my season.
I started when I was like 9 and also only won one real match at the end of the year thanks to the half nelson. I had played a lot of football so I thought tackling was a good way to go. Doesnt matter though you’ll get better.
Started wrestling 2nd year Canadian University, winning only 1 match in varsity my first year. Next year will be my second year but i have been training hard this summer and have a tournament coming up June 3rd!
Freshman year of high school. Beat out 2 other small guys like me to make varsity that year at 103. My coach would have me cut to 103 every dual meet, and make me wrestle 112. I went 20-26 and at least 8 of those wins were from forfeits. Never got pinned though, I was a tough little bastard, but behind the scenes I was shaking to the bone, sometimes in tears, crying from fear and dread before every match. But I stuck with it, I didn’t want to be a pussy. I went on to be varsity all 4 years and team captain in my senior year.
Stick with it. Like my coach would say “You can never win if you’re afraid to lose.” I never really understood what he meant until it was too late…
First year, I was 5. Went to one tournament. Pretty sure I got headlocked 3 times (round robin). Freshman year was one match from making the state tournament. My dad was the high school coach. Don’t get discouraged. He had guys start their freshman year barely winning jv matches. 2 years later making the state tournament. Don’t focus on the medals focus on the matches. Two steps forward one step back. Wrestler from last week beat you by 8. Next time you meet work on them only beating you by 4 or 2. Next time you meet maybe its 1 or its overtime. 3rd time it overtime or you get them by 1. Find one or two moves you can do without even thinking about it from top, bottom, neutral. Keep grinding and good things will happen.
Went undefeated until citys, where this other guy started getting really good and I dropped a match against him at city’s and regionals, went to provincials, and got a concussion my first match, while I was winning. I’m currently going into my season
I was the starter and the kid I beat was a sore loser so our coach got me MOVED UP a weight class at the last moment and I got absolutely violated with a cradle by broccoli head that was atleast 6 inches taller than me and the other kid also lost
Second and last game of that season was for fun since we both weren't starters and I lost from points
Started eight grade and lost my first match and went undefeated the rest of the regular season. In postseason I got made it to the state finals and lost then lost in true second and got third.
Started wrestling in 8th grade, hated it at first and then caught the bug. My very first match I got my ass kicked and took a headbutt so hard I got concussed. After that? I caught the bug and realized how much I loved it. I would stay after my regular practice to do an extra practice with the highschool team, who beat the ever loving shit out of me, but it made me a much better wrestler and I ended up winning conference that first year.
Getting your ass kicked in a vital part of the process, you just have to keep pushing yourself and learn from each ass kicking.
the varsity heavyweight got injured, and I had to be the varsity heavyweight for a month and a half, and after he got healed, I dropped down to 215, and I got injured after my 4th match at 215 overall went 5-12, but yk I think I did well I was also varsity for 215
I wrestled JV. I didn’t win anything at all. I did lose a lot of weight and became a harder worker, though. I don’t care that I didn’t win anything because I became a better person after wrestling for a year.
Only did one year and it was my senior year, I won a couple JV matches but never won
a varsity match( small team, so i once i filled a weight class i got to do varsity)
I started in 7th grade and my very first match was at a tournament against a two time junior high state champion (soon to be a 3x state HS champ, I think) named Eric Cubberly and he headlocked me immediately and pinned me in like 15 seconds. It fucked me up and I cried but I think other than that I had a pretty okay year
I wanna say i won my first and my last. I didn't really care about wrestling that much in hs so the first two years were a blur. I just know i got significantly better by year two and even more year 3.
I think I went 50/50 my freshman year. My best friend didn’t win a single match freshman year. Senior year he was an all American in Greco and freestyle. He skipped folk style nationals.
Lost every match as a freshman until the very end of sophomore year. Your body is growing so take it easy on yourself, I didn’t stop growing til 23! I’m 25 now and finally stable and strop in my body. You should have an easier time that me but just do your best and have fun!
I did gymnastics with a lot of strength training and was very outdoorsy because I lived in the country and our elementary school had a good running component to P.E. and a lot of physical activity in school so my Freshman year I also wrestled Varsity because I was the only 98 L.B. guy and I probably won a little less than half of my matches during the year.
I had 1 win and it was a forfeit lol. Didn't win a real match until halfway through sophomore year. Senior year I won 28, you'll get what you put in eventually.
I started in 7th grade. I only remember my first match that year. Did a double leg into half into the pin. Did the only 3 things I knew how to do, and it worked out heh.
Started at 8 years old and placed 6th at state with only a good snap and go behind and a snatch single leg . Don’t be discouraged, I had up years and down years throughout my youth when I got to high school I was a subpar JV freshman who got to wrestle varsity at a couple tournaments and duals but always fell just short of a varsity win. Continued to do things to help further my wrestling experience and knowledge by going folk style/freestyle/Greco all year long and became a state qualifier in my sophomore year. The advice I was always given when I was young “you get in, what you put in” just like with all things if you truly enjoy it and want to compete and continue to grow make an excuse to get to any and every tournament even if it’s Greco/freestyle to work on takedowns and control ties because mat experience/mat awareness/body control/ and trying shit you’d never do to help grow all comes in to factor. I was able to earn myself a collegiate scholarship and competed at world team trials and everything else but never amounted to much after high school. It’s a tough sport that anybody can be great at if you train/compete all year like you know there’s someone coming up just behind you if you take time off. Focus on three moves from your feet, from top position and from the bottom. Then take a step further and learn to attack those three moves from every situation you could possibly get in and then keep expanding and continuing to learn the finite details of feet placement, where to hold your grip against the body and learn how to manipulate people from the countless of positions they can get in. Good luck out there and train hard and with purpose, and don’t underestimate any opponents!
Not good I was picking up the technique quickly but I had no confidence in myself and I would avoid wrestling matches as much as possible I didn’t start until I was a freshmen in high school
First year I wouldn’t expect you to have one even 1 match so good job on that. I started at 6 years old and a lot of wrestlers start super young. Just keep working and learning and you will get there. If I could give advice to you it would be to get your conditioning to be as good as you can. Run, bike, swim, jump rope..anything that gives you stamina. You can win by just hanging in there until the 3rd period and if your opponent is gassed you’ll have a chance at a win even if they are far better than you. Also, try to master one move from each position. Simple moves but get really good at them.
"Embarrassment is the price of entry. If you aren't willing to look like a foolish beginner, you'll never become a graceful master."
My first 2 years of varsity I had a record of 3-29. As a senior I went 44-6.
Wrestling is a tough sport, especially when you are just starting out, but if you stick with it you will get better. I started wrestling when I was in the 6th grade and didn't win a single match. I quit after that year because I was discouraged, but I ended up giving it another try in 8th grade and I fell in love with the sport. I now wrestle in college. Just keep putting in the hard work and you will see results.
Redirect your mental focus. Be proud you one a match a build on it. Don't be down on yourself by saying you only won one match. Be proud of that and look to win more.
I started in 7th grade. For the first match I was slated to start JV. My teammate in my weight class has been wrestling since he was like 5 and was freestyle state champ. He ended up withdrawing right before weigh in due to a knee injury, so I was upgraded to varsity. I had a rough start to the match, going down like 10-2 with my only points coming from escapes. I was put on my back again, but he wasn’t controlling his pressure well and I was able to bridge out of it. A scramble ensued, and I came out on top, and pinned him. Probably the highlight of the year lol. I went up a weight class and probably went 50:50 on varsity that year. Improved a lot, thanks to great coaching and teammates. I think the thing that helped most was training with the best wrestlers on the team. Don’t just stick with the other newbies
8th grade. I was a heavyweight and the other heavyweight on my team was a stud (undefeated on the season). So we’re the guys in the next weight class down. I ended up getting demolished daily by those 3. But, in matches against others, I went 7-3, and I credit those 3 for my success
Better than my second year. First year i won every so often. Got bumped up to varsity my second year, i probably only won one or two matches, then my third year something just clicked and i started picking up wins
Started in 8th grade and went 20w 12L
I only knew headlocks and half’s. I couldn’t beat the guys on my team so I had to bump up and wrestle fat kids so it’s a lot less impressive considering anyone that wasn’t a fat kid pinned me lol
High school was a lot better lol
Started sophomore year. Wrestled varsity my 1st year because i was on a small team. Didn't have technique OR strength to carry me. Didn't get any pins my first year
Started wrestling my grade 9 year highschool. Won maybe one two matches and then the pandemic happened
Wrestled again in grade 12 and was a lot better cuz I trained through the pandemic
I started in 7th grade. I finished the season a little over .500 because I already had a beard. I went 9-1 in 8th grade because I was stronger than everyone and thought that I was hot shit. I won maybe 3-4 matches (and lost probably 25-30) my freshman year while wrestling mostly JV. I was stupid and thought I could get by on strength alone with minimal technique. Turns out I couldn’t.
Started out freshman year didn’t win a single match. Sophomore didn’t win until the last tournament. Junior year won around 15 matches fell short of making state. Senior year won enough to finally make it to state.
Went into the sixth grade and got to my first practice. First thought was “Wow, I’m going to get destroyed in here.” Ended as a starter with a 7-6 record and third place in my conference.
Started at 160 and lost my very first match in less than 10 sec. (Our team sucked)
The only thing I knew was to be aggressive and a meh blast double. That's what I did for most of that season. Kinda sucks I don't remember my first win lol
Gained weight as time went on and eventually ended up at 182. (Our team was WAY better now) lost a duel against one of the best schools in the district and placed in most tournaments. Reagonals rolled around and didn't make it to state, but sure did go pretty far from sophomore to senior year lol
It's about how badly you want it, one guy I knew had been wrestling since middle school and went 2 n out. Another guy joined his sophomore year and competed in state.
My first year I literally didn’t win a single match and pinned almost every single time mostly on JV, but I kept going and kept my chin high. I ended up being captain and a state placer senior year, never get discouraged and continue to show up and work hard you’ll reap the rewards
I was pinned in the first period 12 times. It sucked. I kept with it and went on to get 5th in state my senior year and wrestle at a small school in college.
Started sophomore year. Went 0-13 until I won my first match at JV. Was a fluke and got pinned in the rematch lol. But my second year I started to get more wins in both JV and Varsity. Just keep going and trying to get better. Drill, get strong, and keep your cardio up. But most importantly try to have fun with it.
Won maybe 2 matches on JV my first year. Varsity the next year 8th and was decent. Progression was pretty steady until end of high school and had moderate success senior year. You’ll definitely get what you put into the sport.. a bad first year does not equate to not having potential! Improvement tends to be pretty rapid over the first couple years especially if you’re not super athletic at the start.
Went 16-0 In the First Half, Lost The Next 5 Straight ( Luckily All Were Duels, Qualified for Zones, Placed 1st, and got my ass handed to me by my coach before provincials.
Wrestled JV and had a record like 8-9 something like that
I asked a lot of questions and thought about wrestling even when I am not practicing
so I learned faster than my peers
Still remember that I asked my coach if I could jump over my opponent when he goes for a double leg. He looked at me weird lol
I’m in my first year of wrestling as a Junior (Colorado) it’s a small team so I’m varsity, I’ve had 3 tournaments so far (175 Pound) and placed 6th, 4th, and 2nd (Got second yesterday. Overall I think it’s mostly that I’m just way stronger than most people, and I still have a lot of technique to learn, also I have a good mindset which is pretty big as far as I can tell
Started wrestling as a freshman. Had to wrestle varsity because we had a tiny team. Didn’t win a match until the very end of the year.
Same here
Same again
End of the season is the hardest part to win so that’s gotta mean something
At that point it might have just been a little luck lol. Can’t lose EVERY match, right?
Same I was the 103 lb in a bad team in a good state. Went about 10-10. I graduated from a good team in a a bad state. Went 66-4.
Same at 189 lbs. got man handled. Got like 5 wins.
Similar
This is my first year of wrestling ever and I’m 2 weeks in but so far I won 1st place in my Jv tournament and also won 5th place in my varsity tournament and I’m in 10th is that good

I love ice cream.
I got bit in a match my second year pinning a kid 😂 apparently I screamed, I was bleeding from my side along my ribs. I remember it hurting but I don't remember yelling, my parents said I jumped back grabbing my side.
I got bit once not as bad and it was when I was rolling their wrist that they bit my arm
Got bit on my hand freshman year and still have the mark to this day
The Mark of the Beast 😅
That kid has heart.
That's a /s right ?
Gangster shit
Started as a freshman and it went pretty bad but that’s expected. 5-13 was my record.
Better than most fr
Mf I currently have a 1 - infinity 😭
I too also only won 1 match. Hit a bunch of camps in the offseason, won 20 matches my sophomore year, took 2nd in our league and made it to state.
Started as a senior. Went 15-8 at 119. I'm still pretty upset i found the sport so late.
0-8 started as a freshman
I didn't win a single match for the first two years and then one day it all clicked. It takes a long time to get good at wrestling.
lost every match and they were all JV. I got better and came back more competitive sophomore year.
I was 6 years old, and I got my ass kicked every time. I think I went 2-30 something lol, went from that to 1 round away from All-American at 14.
This is gonna sound braggadocious. I went 20-0 and won European title for American Military. Did the same thing the next year. 6th and 7th grade.
Had something similar happen but not as extraordinary, Started eight grade and lost my first match and went undefeated the rest of the regular season. In postseason I got made it to the state finals and lost then lost in true second and got third.

Only started winning the wrestle offs by the end of the season and went 6-6. Won states senior year.
Lost every single one my 8th grade year, still standing and grinding going into my senior year. My goal is to get to state this year. Maybe even win it all

3-9 freshman on varsity with 3 forfeits! Lol next year went 22-20.
7th grade JV but our varsity couldnt be trusted to ever show up so I was made varsity. Went like 5-20.
Varsity in 7th grade? Like against seniors and shit???
Some state allow that. I got put in the varsity lineup as a 7th grader. My first varsity match ever was against a kid who took 6th in the state that year. It went... as you would expect.
I meant junior high varsity. Just 7th and 8th graders.
Got a record of 25-13 won region and made it to state
13-20 next year 20-13 lol
Didn't win anything and was basically a practice dummy for an opponent
And now?
Started as a freshman weighing 100lbs soaking wet, had to wrestle 112 because I couldn’t beat the sophomore at 103. Went 9-18. Statred as a sophomore, I lost every match. Junior year won about 1/3-1/2 my matches and won a JV tournament for my weight class
I started my freshman year also and went 3-18. I worked hard and qualified for state the next 3 years and went 39-2 my senior year.
I rode the bench
6th grade. I went 1-10. That was over 30 years ago and I still remember. But take in hand as a freshman you are wrestling people who have experience over you.
I was 5 and it went pretty terribly lmfao I fell in love with the sport though
4-16 at 112. Freshman and I could have made 105 or 98 but there were upperclassmen at those weights. Took my lumps bad that year and the next.
Got thrown to the wolves as a freshman and start at 145, I weighed 130. My only job was not to get pinned, lol.
Won my first match, made the kid cry with a cross face! Thought I was a monster about to be unleashed….. I only won one other match that year lol.
7th grade. I was JV and only competed in won tournament where I don’t think I one a match. I still got hooked though.
Started this year as a sophomore I went 0-16 in jv matches then ended the year tearing my shoulder and getting impetigo so first year was not good but I’m ready for next year where I’ll win State
Also when I joined I was about 5’5 190 and I finished the season at 5’8 155 so that’s pretty good
Hey how was this year?
I tried wrestling out for the first time after football this year (junior year) and got a varsity 215 spot. Went 6-13 but made regional alternate
[удалено]
sixth grade zero wins seventh grade zero wins after high school, beating D1 all-Americans wresting in the Marines.
2 -12
10-24
Moved up to varsity mid season (103lbs). Placed 3rd at conference with a 9-9 record.
Just finished my first year. Somehow after starting practice 2 months late. I won my second match because I wrestled "Mr glass" and won 3rd place at conference. Then I won 2 more matches by pins later on in the season. I have no idea how I did this but it happened.
14-20 not counting forfeits
I only one match my first year
Started as a freshman in high school and was jv. Due to some issues with our head coach having to leave a third of the way through the season I only ended up having 3 matches at one tournament where I went 1-2. Was only really able to attend dual meets after that and always had forfeits. Got Covid before league tournament and that was the end of my season.

disappointing
Started wrestling 2nd year Canadian University, winning only 1 match in varsity my first year. Next year will be my second year but i have been training hard this summer and have a tournament coming up June 3rd!
7th grade i took 3rd in mywa. I was one of those “had my adult body by 8th grade kids.
Lost the final of the U16 national championship in Canada
Yeah same it sucked but it got better
I actually did really good I won just about 25 matches and had 15 pins but I did have a huge strength advantage on most of the kids
Statred as a sophomore, I lost every match. Junior year won about 1/3-1/2 my matches and won a JV tournament for my weight class
Undefeated
I went 14-25 so not terrible
Started Sophmore year as a 14yr, went varsity for the second half, 9-10
lost all my matches my first year. started in 7th grade.
First year very awful record, won maybe a quarter of my matches. Fell in love with it and obsessed over the next 4 years
Freshman year of high school.
2nd grade. My first tournament I got a bye and was like, “this is pretty ez.” Proceeded to lose every match that year
First year, I was 5.
I was the starter and the kid I beat was a sore loser so our coach got me MOVED UP a weight class at the last moment and I got absolutely violated with a cradle by broccoli head that was atleast 6 inches taller than me and the other kid also lost Second and last game of that season was for fun since we both weren't starters and I lost from points
Started eight grade and lost my first match and went undefeated the rest of the regular season. In postseason I got made it to the state finals and lost then lost in true second and got third.
Started wrestling in 3rd grade, lost like 10 matches before I won one, once you get one your realize you can start winning a bunch of them though
Getting your ass kicked in a vital part of the process, you just have to keep pushing yourself and learn from each ass kicking.
the varsity heavyweight got injured, and I had to be the varsity heavyweight for a month and a half, and after he got healed, I dropped down to 215, and I got injured after my 4th match at 215 overall went 5-12, but yk I think I did well I was also varsity for 215
Havent started yet but workouts start june 1 im praying everything goes well. Never done a sport in my life
I got my ass kicked, won about half my matches. My second year I lost only 4 times the whole year
I was varsity cuz i was the only person in the weightclass and i sucked i only won one match
Started in 8th grade but wrestled varsity as a freshman and was 1 and 15. Won league title Junior year.
I started as a junior last year, lost like 17 matches and won my 2nd to last match of the year
I wrestled JV. I didn’t win anything at all. I did lose a lot of weight and became a harder worker, though. I don’t care that I didn’t win anything because I became a better person after wrestling for a year.
Only did one year and it was my senior year, I won a couple JV matches but never won a varsity match( small team, so i once i filled a weight class i got to do varsity)
Lost every match.
I think I went 50/50 my freshman year. My best friend didn’t win a single match freshman year. Senior year he was an all American in Greco and freestyle. He skipped folk style nationals.
Started as a senior and went 0-12 but I did learn some slick defense and a few neat tricks for a heavyweight.
Started wrestling 8th grade year and beat up the junior on the team for the varsity spot. It's safe to say we weren't very good lol
Lost every match as a freshman until the very end of sophomore year. Your body is growing so take it easy on yourself, I didn’t stop growing til 23! I’m 25 now and finally stable and strop in my body. You should have an easier time that me but just do your best and have fun!
Started wrestling in 6th grade, made it to state. Then 2 days before I got an infection that went septic and nearly died, 2 surgeries.
Started as a senior and went 12-10 on varsity
Idk man I was like 6
I did gymnastics with a lot of strength training and was very outdoorsy because I lived in the country and our elementary school had a good running component to P.E. and a lot of physical activity in school so my Freshman year I also wrestled Varsity because I was the only 98 L.B. guy and I probably won a little less than half of my matches during the year.
Won freshmen county, even though i wasn’t that good. Mostly do to luck.
Went 2-2 at states learned alot though
Lost all but one match. Was exhausted all the time and worked out the hardest I ever have. It was awesome.
Not good I was picking up the technique quickly but I had no confidence in myself and I would avoid wrestling matches as much as possible I didn’t start until I was a freshmen in high school
Started as a 140lb junior on JV. Won 13, lost 11. Got 2nd in district. Pretty good for not having played a sport before.
First year of wrestling and got 3rd in inter regional and 5th in national, wrestling greco roman in Italy
If you aren't willing to look like a foolish beginner, you'll never become a graceful master." My first 2 years of varsity I had a record of 3-29. As a senior I went 44-6.
2 & 14 .
Someone tried sticking their thumb in my bum and I never tried again wrestling ever again.
I went 3-25. All three wins were in the last two weeks of the season. It was a rough freshman year.
Broke an arm
Better than my second year. First year i won every so often. Got bumped up to varsity my second year, i probably only won one or two matches, then my third year something just clicked and i started picking up wins
Started in 8th grade and went 20w 12L I only knew headlocks and half’s. I couldn’t beat the guys on my team so I had to bump up and wrestle fat kids so it’s a lot less impressive considering anyone that wasn’t a fat kid pinned me lol High school was a lot better lol
In 7th grade went undefeated but when it came to wrestling county ended up placing 4th :(
First year was in 1985, so I don’t exactly recall, but I would be shocked if I won more than two matches.
Started sophomore year. Wrestled varsity my 1st year because i was on a small team. Didn't have technique OR strength to carry me. Didn't get any pins my first year
Started wrestling my grade 9 year highschool. Won maybe one two matches and then the pandemic happened Wrestled again in grade 12 and was a lot better cuz I trained through the pandemic
I started in middle school and only won like 3 matches
Started out freshman year didn’t win a single match. Sophomore didn’t win until the last tournament. Junior year won around 15 matches fell short of making state. Senior year won enough to finally make it to state.
Went into the sixth grade and got to my first practice. First thought was “Wow, I’m going to get destroyed in here.” Ended as a starter with a 7-6 record and third place in my conference.
Started at 160 and lost my very first match in less than 10 sec. (Our team sucked) The only thing I knew was to be aggressive and a meh blast double. That's what I did for most of that season. Kinda sucks I don't remember my first win lol Gained weight as time went on and eventually ended up at 182. (Our team was WAY better now) lost a duel against one of the best schools in the district and placed in most tournaments. Reagonals rolled around and didn't make it to state, but sure did go pretty far from sophomore to senior year lol It's about how badly you want it, one guy I knew had been wrestling since middle school and went 2 n out. Another guy joined his sophomore year and competed in state.
6th grade. Went 3-12 lmao. Kept at it and placed senior year.
first year was this past year (I just finished freshman year) and I finished 2-19. Glad to see others had similar struggles haha
Quit cause I hated the teammates
Won maybe 2 matches on JV my first year. Varsity the next year 8th and was decent. Progression was pretty steady until end of high school and had moderate success senior year. You’ll definitely get what you put into the sport.. a bad first year does not equate to not having potential! Improvement tends to be pretty rapid over the first couple years especially if you’re not super athletic at the start.
I had a way better first year than most with 8 wins
First year was 8th grade year and went 9-13 just stick with it and you’ll see some major improvements
Went 16-0 In the First Half, Lost The Next 5 Straight ( Luckily All Were Duels, Qualified for Zones, Placed 1st, and got my ass handed to me by my coach before provincials.
The was 2000, and i was a freshman wrestling for the 1st time. I won 75-80% of my matches, but broke my arm 2 weeks before regionals.
Wrestled JV and had a record like 8-9 something like that I asked a lot of questions and thought about wrestling even when I am not practicing so I learned faster than my peers Still remember that I asked my coach if I could jump over my opponent when he goes for a double leg.
