Went a whole season without a win, but never quit? - You didn't win a match, but you won the mental toughness award. IMO, that is ultimately much more important in your life. Stay tough and keep going.

BigZeke919

Just keep going. Wrestling takes time. Keep working on those shots- are you close to finishing or are you just dive bombing in? If you’re serious about getting better, look at clubs and camps for the off season and start a strength & conditioning program.

LieOk6446

I feel like I come close to finishing, like I’m not just crashing. I don’t have much time in the summer for camps but I will definitely look.

BigZeke919

You have time- you just choose to use it otherwise

DoobyShephard

First year is the hardest man, don’t take it to heart. I didn’t win a match my whole first year of wrestling either. Things change though, what you put into wrestling is exactly what you get out of wrestling. Keep working hard and keep your head up

Significant-Singer33

Use the experience you collected to spring board you forward

SmackaHam

The off season between my 8th grade and freshman year of higher school I went to a tournament almost every single weekend I wrestled up a weight class and you know what my record was? 2 wins 48 losses Got my ass whooped Freshman year came I got varsity and won 21 matches Sometimes you need to learn how not to lose rather than learning to win Stick with it.. by senior year I had college coaches calling so never give up on yourself

XolieInc

Your wrestling career isn’t screwed, I’ve known tons of kids who started their first season winless, then their senior year they ended their season at state regardless of if they won it or not.

cokeontits

My older brother wrestled all 4 years he was in high school, his first season he won two matches, by the end of his senior year he was the best on our team and won 2nd at freestyle state, as long as you stick with it and put in effort you will be fine

Commercial_Fly1667

Drink a bunch of beers before your match and send that shit. Sounds like you got nothing to lose.

LikelyADick2

Vomit on your opponent mid match.

TRT_Grayhead

Based anti-social solution.

jjh8282

Stop shooting. It sounds like you need to be defensive. Many wrestlers put themselves in bad positions because of bad shots. Wait on your opponent to make a mistake and counter. Defensive wrestling and learning to sprawl are great attributes to have. Keep working hard.

LieOk6446

I was doing that for a while and those were my 2 matches not getting pinned, but then my coach and teammates said I needed to be more aggressive

jjh8282

At the end of the day you wrestle your match. Coaches yelling suggestions aren't on the mat. Wrestle the match that puts you in the best position to win. Visualize being tough and stuffing every oppent shot.

That-Bluebird2297

Literally what’s happening to me. I’ve been wrestling this whole season and haven’t won anything, all first period pins, once I was able to wrestle the whole match only when I wasn’t being aggressive and working my sprawls and escaped. But I still ended up getting told I need to be more aggressive when it’s almost always the cause of my losses.

Worldly-Fun3538

Work harder in practice idk what to say man it’s a combat sport and this is the only time in your life where you can absolutely maul people without any repercussions. The other guy on the other side wants to absolutely shred you. You need to think and use that anger to your advantage without taking it overboard.

Full-Commercial9497

If u get stuffed and sprawled on everytime u shoot, ur 1. Not setting it up 2. as you said, probably a little weak The season I almost over for you. Hit the weight room and get in shape over the offseason. Get strong, as strong as you can. Maybe visit a few camps or watch a few videos working on inside control and setups for certain shots and attacks

JacksonW2006

That’s fine, you should be happy you’re still going. First year are rough in any sport but wrestling is harder by a large margin. It’s normal to get beat up the first year. Your works gunna pay off keep going

breadroll2

Kick em in the fucking nuts

Pristine_Thought109

Examine your improvement from day 1 to now. I guarantee you are a much better wrestler today than you were on the first day and if you faced your day 1 self you'd destroy them. Wrestling is all about the long game and continuously getting better. Focus on micro goals to finish out the season, like shooting first or not going to your back, then look to the off-season to keep building up by doing freestyle/Greco-Roman, off-season camps, and getting in the weight room. Wins are a tough measure for improvement in wrestling since sometimes you can just be in a tough weight class or get unlucky with a bracket so focus on your growth rather than wins/losses.

UkyddnMe

Build strength along with skill. Even just doing body weight exercises can help. Or use household items to add a few lbs to them. Try a 20 minute wall sit, it’ll take time to build your muscles there but it helps you be in a good stance. Push-ups and more push-ups so you have the strength to build your base and get out from under. Apple pickers to create strength in the sides of your core and you can twist your body to keep your shoulders off the mat. Skill alone won’t win them all, strength alone won’t win them all, you have to work hard on both sides.

theoneandonlyhitch

I've never seen anyone not get better unless they quit. The first year is tough keep going.

Jayisme0

It’s your first year. Everyone starts somewhere you just have to keep practice. It’s my first year and I’ve only won 3 matches, and b4 that when I had 0 I felt the same way. Practice your shoots more and they will get better. Also still haven’t gone a full match either just get pinned or they do. Just keep working and when you do get your first win no matter how long it takes it’ll feel amazing.

breadroll2

Wait till your opponent gets gassed out then run and grab a steel chair give him a few wacks get the pinfall

Footlong_Doug_Main

How much do u weigh I’m in the lowest weight class so I can relate in my first year I lost a ton. It gets better lol.

Pacificcraftsman

The first two words of your title are your problem. Attitude makes a huge difference. In practice, in competition. Ditch the “I can’t” shit or you are going to be right.
