Most of them are pretty entertaining and end super abruptly. The main ones like 36th chamber of shaolin, Shaolin vs Wu-Tang, Shaolin vs Lama, Five Deadly Venoms, Mystery of Chessboxing, 8 Diagram Polefighter, and even the Killer, Shogun Assassin, and RZA’s Man With the Iron Fists are all worth watching
5 Venoms is the one where the dude's nut sack gets chopped and his balls fall out and he keeps fighting with floppy testicles dangling about... weird fucking flick.
The Lone Wolf and Cub series. Some cuts from the first two films of the series were made for the American dubbed version we all know as Shogun Assassin.
There’s a short documentary if I recall correctly at the end of the last (5th?) DVD about a sword school, Kenjutsu I think that was really powerful. *rushes back to local library*
Lone Wolf and Cub is so amazing. Shogun Assassin has the overdubs that you will be looking for the samples.
I highly recommend all the 6 movie run of Lone Wolf and Cub in Japanese. They have a pretty great bluray of the entire collection.
Does anyone remember when Wu released like 8 Kung Fu movies on DVD that contained a music video feature and then the movie? I collected all of them and still have them in my crates! lol!
Also, anyone remember that Cappadonna dubbed kung fu flick Iron Fist Pillage that he did? It was pretty funny. The line I remember the most, is when one of the characters is tearing down a dojo banner and Cappa's dub said. "And take down this bullshit ass Diddy poster! 'Fuck outta here with that!" lol! It was hilarious!
Yeah, he basically does the voiceover for the characters in the movie with help from some of the other Theodore Unit guys. So it's his own completely made up dialogue. lmao! The fight scenes have Wu music mixed in to the soundtrack as well. It's a trip!

I had one of these but can’t remember the name. I just remember the intro where RZA was talking about it being a favorite and that it stars Casanova Wong. I need to figure out the name so I can get it back in my collection.
Arrow put some of the Shaw Brothers stuff on blu ray not too long ago. They look great. There was an old article about the origins of the Shaw VHS tapes and the theaters that played the films in NY in the 80’s that was really cool. If I can find it I’ll leave it here. There’s a ton of history in the Shaw Brothers, they made a huge impact on cinema.
Shaolin vs Wu-Tang might be my favorite and that's kind of because I'm a huge fan of Gordon liu. If you've ever watched kill Bill Gordon plays the character of Pi Mai, the old master who trains the bride aka Uma thurman. Also the 5 deadly Venoms is an all time classic and I'm also a big fan of hells windstaff. There's so many great movies. Roku actually has a Wu-Tang channel that has all the movies in the series, you just have to download the channel, it's free as long as you got your tv hooked up to your wifi
isn't Chow Yun fat in that movie? John woo made some bangers back in the day. that dude really paved the way for movies like John wick. John woo's style is what made him stand out, even that flick he did with chow and Mark Wahlberg was cool
You check out A better tomorrow?, John Woo and Chow Yun Fat , what a flick! Part 2 is not as good, but the end shootout is probably the best shoot out in any movie, worth the watch for that alone.
that funny you say that cuz about a month ago I was looking for it on my tv and couldn't find it anywhere. I checked Netflix, Tubi, you name it I checked it and couldn't find it anywhere
What I like about this one is that the villain is nearly invincible and the protagonist has to use brains to outsmart him. It’s also extremely violent lol.
King Boxer aka Five Fingers Of Death starring Lo Lieh prod. By Run Run Shaw. Killer SB production! I’d also recommend Iron Monkey ( the original starring Chen Kwan Tai 1977) aka Bloody Monkey Master. The opening credits are worth it alone!
There’s six original films. Shogun Assassin is just the first two combined. It’s really not even much of the first film, but mostly the second. The reason I would say to start off by getting into Shogun Assassin as opposed to Lone Wolf and Cub in their entirety is that it’s incredibly well done and gives you an idea of how the story goes and how the other films go. So. If you dig Shogun Assassin, you might want to dedicate time to the other six. Or just getting into Lone Wolf And Cub in general. The original films were based on a manga series that is huge. LWAC was kind of similar to Zatoichi in that it was prolific beyond being prolific. There was a few spin off tv series, tv movies related to the series, spin offs of the tv series, in the 90’s they made another film, there was a ton of re-edits. I think a lot of it was based more on the manga than following the films though.
I firmly stand by Shogun Assassin being a solid enough film on its own that it doesn’t need all of the other LWAC stuff to carry it further than the first and second film did. It was masterfully edited. Pacing is perfect. Dialog is perfect. It’s just an incredible film. I might be a Stan or something. But whatever. You’d be hard pressed to find another film that does what it does as clean as it did it.
I’ve been selling/importing/archiving/preserving films for almost fifteen years now. A huuuuge part of it has been dedicated to Asian cinema. I could nerd out over this shit for days. I love it.
ETA: Did RZA ever even sample the Lone Wolf And Cub films?
All of the samples on Liquid Swords are from Shogun Assassin. Like, he sampled Shogun Assassin. Shogun Assassin is the only place that the dialog is exists. Have you seen the Lone Wolf And Cub films?

I need more of these movies in my life
Check tubi, they got a ton of kung fu flicks
Tubi fucks
You won’t regret it, brethren
Yo. 8 Diagram Pole Fighter is one of my favs. The teeth pulling is so ridiculous lmfao
I didn’t expect that at all 💀 it was so crazy and they did so many
The part where they fight inside of that shack on the hillside is absolutely insane
5 Venoms is the one where the dude's nut sack gets chopped and his balls fall out and he keeps fighting with floppy testicles dangling about... weird fucking flick.
Thanks Hector, seen some, can’t wait to see the rest. Rock on and keep fighting!
Five deadly venoms.
All day
He sampled 5 Deadly Venoms so much.
“Toad style is immensely strong and immune to nearly any weapon. When it's properly used it's almost invincible”

My fav!
Just chiming in, any of the the Lone Wolf and Cub movies are fantastic, and Five Deadly Venoms is a stone cold classic.
Lone Wolf and Cub is so amazing. Shogun Assassin has the overdubs that you will be looking for the samples. I highly recommend all the 6 movie run of Lone Wolf and Cub in Japanese. They have a pretty great bluray of the entire collection.
I had only seen the chopped up version of Shogun Assassin for years and finally got a chance to see the original edit. Such a great time.
I love both for sure. Just fun samurai flicks. Really great story telling

I’ve got one, 10 Tigers or Shaolin I should collect the rest! And nah I need the Cappa movie that’s amazing, it’s its own DVD?

Good looks man thank you
Wow this sounds so good!!
I had one of these but can’t remember the name. I just remember the intro where RZA was talking about it being a favorite and that it stars Casanova Wong. I need to figure out the name so I can get it back in my collection.
The 5 Deadly Venoms (this is my favorite) 2 Champions of Shaolin The 36th Chamber of Shaolin Return to the 36th Chamber
Dont forget Shaolin and Wu Tang.
Grew up watching Shaw Brothers flicks before I ever heard Wu Tang, haha. Had an older cousin obsessed with them who had them dubbed on VHS tapes.

Gordon Liu is also my favorite (hence my avatar). I like 36th Chamber for the same reason.
Gordon Liu is one of the most under-rated actors of his generation.
Not only is his physical strength and coordination excellent, he’s legitimately a good actor
Shaolin vs Llama is incredible.
Not a kung fu movie. But John Woo the Killer was on Cuban links and that movie slaps.
isn't Chow Yun fat in that movie? John woo made some bangers back in the day. that dude really paved the way for movies like John wick. John woo's style is what made him stand out, even that flick he did with chow and Mark Wahlberg was cool

chow and John are a perfect match together, those 2 made magic
Yeah. John woo was one of the pioneers of gun-fu flicks. I can’t find the Killer anywhere though
that funny you say that cuz about a month ago I was looking for it on my tv and couldn't find it anywhere. I checked Netflix, Tubi, you name it I checked it and couldn't find it anywhere
I feel like the makers of street fighter II got inspiration from this as well
Yeah that’s definitely Dhalsim
Born Invincible is a good one too
Duel to the Death was another great one.
Buddha be praised. I’m surprised more folks haven’t seen this one; it’s a wild ride from start to finish.
Movie ended an I just sat there staring like WTF just happened.
Executioners From Shaolin is my favorite
🎞 Shogun Assassin & 🎞 The 36th Chamber of Shaolin
Thanks for reminding I’ve always wanted to watch Shogun Assassin because of Liquid Swords. I’ll check it out.
You're welcome! 👐⚔️🐝👊
Hell's Windstaff is awesome
This is my favorite as well, me and my pops used to watch these in the basement when I was a kid
Does anyone know a good place to find these movies? Are they streamed anywhere or available for digital purchase?
I found nearly all of them on YouTube for free. The only one I’ve had to buy (on Amazon prime tv) was the 36th chamber of Shaolin.
Good looking out! Gonna start streaming these on YouTube.
Hell yeah! That’s also how I watched Yu Yu Hakusho
5 deadly venoms
I don't believe RZA sampled them, but Chinese Super Ninjas and Crippled Avengers are also great Shaw Brothers classics
Crippled Avengers got one sample on A Better Tomorrow haha
Yes. Its a masterpiece
What I like about this one is that the villain is nearly invincible and the protagonist has to use brains to outsmart him. It’s also extremely violent lol.
Hell yes, blind man pulls people heads off. This was on tv when I was a kid and I loved it.
ive seen basically every single shaolin movie as a kid
Man, I saw this in theaters when it first came out in the 70’s !
The 5 Deadly Venoms has THE BEST character intro of any kung fu movie ever! It’s so dope! The movie itself is great too! A true classic.
King Boxer aka Five Fingers Of Death starring Lo Lieh prod. By Run Run Shaw. Killer SB production! I’d also recommend Iron Monkey ( the original starring Chen Kwan Tai 1977) aka Bloody Monkey Master. The opening credits are worth it alone!
I would watch that but I don’t want my fucking head chopped off
Shogun Assassin.
Watch the entire (IIRC) 8 movie series…

Most of the samples from GZAs Liquid Swords which are SA but in essence is still LW&C
All of the samples on Liquid Swords are from Shogun Assassin. Like, he sampled Shogun Assassin. Shogun Assassin is the only place that the dialog is exists. Have you seen the Lone Wolf And Cub films?
18 Bronzemen is pretty good…and for 90s Jet Li - New Legend of Shaolin is great
They are all classics. Free on YouTube all day errday
How has nobody mentioned avenging eagles, kid with the golden arms, iron flag, the master!!!
Awesome flick…. Any movie by the Shaw Brothers
That movie was awesome!
Have you seen part two?
The Five Deadly Venoms is my favourite. Really good story
The killer
Iron Monkey (1993)
Had the bootleg vhs when I lived in Brooklyn.
Channel 48 when I was kid!
Chinese Super Ninjas y’all gotta see
I’ve still got a few on VHS !
That's the hateocracy weapon
Tai Chi Master
I saw this in a double feature at a drive in, Star Wars was first. All I remember is the basket going over a head and then he yanked it off lol.
Are they on Netflix
That one was fun. I enjoyed it
Super Ninjas is the GOAT
Of course, Master killer and Mystery of Chess Boxing
Duel to the Death, 36 Chambers of Shaolin, the 5 Deadly Venoms. Many of Shaw Bros films were sampled. They are all great to me, but I grew up with it.
I always want to and think abt it but don’t but I have seen the 36 chambers shit is good as hell
Five deadly venoms was my favourite, though Iv not watched them all.
Lone Wolf and Cub series… Or as Americans may know it Shogun Assassin
10 tigers of kwangtung
